My great grandfather Thomas Von Klugër serve as a Colonel in the German 9th army he was killed by the red army during thier last stand in the Battle of Berlin in May 1945. And I'm not ashamed to be his grandson i really admire the men who fought with honor and dignity in the German Wehrmacht.

Even a Japanese invasion of the Soviet Union in the east would've done little to stop the Soviets from winning in due time. Say what you want about Nazi Germany, but these soldiers in the Wehrmacht were apart of the greatest fighting force since Napoleon’s Grande Arme and the Ancient Roman Legions. It took the entire worlds armies and resources to bring the Germans to heel.

2 of which did not have a wartime army prebuilt. The element of surprise was a contributing factor. Germany did have the best tanks, small arms and generals for the most part, lacked long range heavy bombers, a surface fleet and a leader that lived in reality.

Hassel W The USSR had unlimited manpower and without the Murmansk shipments and all the western allied efforts in Italy, France and the bombing campaigns, the USSR wouldnt have stood a chance. The western allies literally had half a billion manpower in their tank, while Germany only had 40 million at most.
@Hassel W 20% is a massive percentage that was absolutely decisive. besides, the western allies supplied not only important and high quality war material, they also gave the soviets blueprints, exchanged their superior military doctrines with them and kept the German navy very busy in hunting convoys.
Besides those 200 to 10 division source is trash. You might want to give something more reliable. According to wikipedia, a total of 9 million Germans fought on the western front from 1944 to 1945. That doesn't include the Italian front and other occupied territories like the Balkans or Scandinavia.

Id think you realize that war can't just be won in a year, but takes many years even with 3 super powers against you because of the amount of factors there are to be considered.

Yes he was an inspiration, he survived two world wars, he was part of the workers who built the Hindenburg zeppelin and he survived more than 3 years in a hole during Russian captivity and he even managed to come back home to Germany to my great-grandmother. He died in the age of 94 and all he always walked humbly throughout his entire life. It is a shame how Germans deal with its past nowadays.

I can not help it. Born as a German, i looked up to these men when i was a boy, a teenager and now as a grown men i still look up to them. Not to their political leaders with their twisted and inhuman ideology, but the brave fighters who sacrificed it all. From my family 5 men died and 3 survived the war as combatands. My family lost all its property in Glogau - east prussia, when they fled the russian soldateska. None of my ancestors saw their home ever again. I wish i could do something for their souls.

ah cool my family was from breslau east germany at the time. we lost everything too, my grandfather lost his father in the eastern front 1 day before the war ended the soviets rounded up the soldiers who surrendered and shot them all side by side. my family imirated to america and started a company and now we are back on our feet in a new country!

My great grandfather servered in the Kriegsmarine as a chef and mechanic during ww2, he was the only one out of his 6 brothers that survived the war

My Grandfather fought for the Wehrmacht as infantry, he was captured along with the 6th army in Stalingrad. He was part of the 44th infantry division and saw action in Poland, France and first battle of Kharkov.
He endured many years in different Russian work camps and lost around 80 pounds of body weight through his ordeal.
His ultimate victory in the end was returning home to what was left of our family in Germany in the mid 1950s
His younger brother survived through the whole war as a loader for the Jagdtiger in the 512th heavy tank destroyer battalion and surrendered to the Americans in May 1945.

My great grandfather was a ship of the line captain in the italian army, the highest rank on a war boat. He met rommel and helped the german troops reach egypt from greece. He died at the end of 1943 probably due to a british submarine, he never abandoned his ship while it was sinking, neither did his sailors and the german soldiers, they both helped to try and save the boat, only 10 on about 500 people on that boat left. Even if someone could argue about the ideologies of the army, nobody can argue the courage of both germans and italian soldiers, and i am proud of my people that fought till the end even with bad organization and died together🇮🇹❤🇩🇪

He committed no atrocities despite what anyone says, both on the East and West Fronts. He was a good man who loved only Germany, and he was not there for the massacre of Tulle or Oradour-sur-Glane as he had been wounded by an Allied air attack on June 9th, 1944 shortly after the allies landed at Normandy while moving into position. He was sent to a Munich hospital to recover, but his injuries didn't allow for him recover in time to return to his unit before Germany surrendered, and even despite this he was detained by Americans until August 1945 before he was released.
