I don’t have a job that demands me to schedule hourly things, I don’t care for stickers so much (I know everyone just gasped), I don’t have children to keep track of and I love to make lists. I use mine to track daily goals, daily to do, weekly goals/to dos and I use the dashboard for monthly.
I don't use Erin Condren. I use the Happy Planner brand. I love vertical layouts because that is what I can follow much easier. I believe that to each their own.
I love the horizontal. I feel like it gives me the best options for customizing the days to suit whatever is going on for that particular week. I also trim vertical kits if necessary, especially if it’s a kit I love and it isn’t offered in a horizontal option.
I'm a horizontal planner user, but I use mine a little differently. Mines is more of a journal. Every evening, I write about my day on the lines and use the box to track my fitness for the day, how many calories burned, etc. My real planning is in the monthly where I write down important dates and reminders and the dashboard sets up important events and other tracking. I am excited for the daily duo though as this will allow me to expand my daily planning and allow me to keep my horizontal as a journal/memory keeper only.
I have planned since a young age too. And for a long time, I was convinced my brain worked only for a horizontal, but I had to realize my brain works in columns; switching to a vertical layout made it so that I was using my entire planner. I am so happy to watch planning videos that aren't my typical planning style. I love seeing new ideas and know that tips can translate from one planner to another.
I use the Erin Condren horizontal planner for work, but the vertical for personal planning. I agree with you. There's more room to write in the horizontal planner. When I plan for the whole week, I schedule my reoccurring tasks on specific days. I leave it open on my desk so I can see what I need to do that day. I just add whatever task comes up as the week goes on. I log in any tasks that I feel might be significant for later. For the notes box, I write down whatever events and tasks that are upcoming the following week. It helps me how to prepare and gives me a picture of what to expect.
I had never used a planner before until I went back to school to finish my degree. While getting my books back in the day, at the check out there were a stack of planners with the school embossed on them in different colors. The price was 1.00, that’s how long ago that was...lol, so I purchased one. It was a monthly spread followed by horizontal weekly pages, and some other pages for contacts etc. This little planner which was smaller than A5 became an amazing tool I used religiously. As a single Mom of two school aged children, a job and returning to school myself, the horizontal planner gave me enough room to keep up with the kids activities and obligations, my school assignments, and it even kept my finances organized. If it wasn’t for that little planner, I don’t feel I would have ever been able to keep up such a rigorous schedule. I too learned on a horizontal and I prefer the horizontal over the others as well. Thank you sharing why you prefer the horizontal layout.
I switched to HORIZONTAL last year and bought a new HORIZONTAL for this year too! I switched from vertical because I wanted more space to write and more options for writing. I feel that I can make make lists, use a big sticker, or write a big word or picture. I feel that it’s more spacious and flexible than vertical.
Lines. Space to write. Totally willing to trim stickers. Lets me highlight stuff I need to remember, and then use left over space for journaling. I got my first EC in 2016 and I've been team horizontal from word go. I've tried other spreads, but its what works for me. So excited for the new one. I got horizontal neutral for the first time and I'm looking forward to customizing each week based on my mood rather than following a color scheme. I like colorful and it was a great place to start, but as I've gotten more and more into decorating, the freedom to make each week my own has become ever more appealing.
My very first planner was an Erin Condren back in 2015 and was a vertical. Since then I’ve always used vertical of whatever planner I happen to be using at the time. I watched a bunch of UA-cam videos on the horizontal and decided to go with the Erin Condren horizontal for 2020. I love it! I’m so happy that I made this choice! I have much more room to write; I feel like anyway lol.
I LOVE my horizontal! I started using a vertical and going down the page just didn''t work so when the horizontal was released I was so happy. I was used to a academic planner format from high school so a horizontal was a perfect fit
Yay Team Horizontal!! I started in a vertical EC back in the day when it was the only option. Glorious when they offered the horizontal option! I switched and never looked back.
Oh my gosh, Me, too!!!! Same about the older Mead planners! Haha. That was when I fell in love with planners and doodled all over them. I put a search on this because I am so tired of always watching vertical videos. I’ll follow you now! ❤
I like horizontal planners. I write big. And, I need to have the space to write all the things that need to get done. Vertical is too, confining for me. Thank you for sharing.❤️👍
I love a Horizontal planner. I'm new to decorating planners and have purchased an 18 mo. Classic Horizontal Happy Planner which starts in July! I love all the Happy Planner planners and sticker books. I like a full sticker book versus Etsy sticker kits! 💕
I use the horizontal planner as a daily journal. I use the monthly notes pages to write down current events, tv shows I’m watching, podcasts & books I’m listening to, etc... I use the monthly dotted grid for favorite photos (HP Sprocket) of the month. I enjoy referencing my planners; especially when I want to look up a past vacation or special day in my life. I am definitely a list person, but I use my phone for that.🙂
I'm a staunch horizontal user! Mainly because I need the space. I love to incorporate lettering and love having the space to do that. I also use my LP for everything - work and personal. There's just not enough space in the vertical for me to put everything in and still make it decorative. I love that I found your channel!
I totally agree. I keep buying vertical planners and I just quit because I can’t fit anything for the day. I can see why it would be helpful if you do block scheduling, but my style is to freestyle and take detailed notes for a specific day. Can’t deal with the hourly planners either.
My last two EC LifePlanners are horizontal. I love this layout because it allows me more creativity and the use of stickers so I know what I need to do during the day or week!! Thank you Kristin for making this video!! God bless!! ❤❤❤
Thank you for horizontal love! I'm just used to layout. I have played around with vertical but always come back to horizontal. I like the space and the way that it looks.
I use my horizontal planner as a journal so I need that space to write a little blurb about my day. If I had any bigger space I wouldn't stick with it because it would be overwhelming but the EC horizontal let's me be successful because it's so simple. The box on the end gets a little photograph from the day. It's perfect for me and my purposes.
In middle school they made us buy a “scab book” ( student calendar academic book) which was the teacher layout. Towards the end of the class the teacher would tell us to take it out and write down our homework then she would walk around and initial it. In high school same thing. Then in college I went to dollar tree and found a horizontal layout planner. I was like “ok, I can use one line per class”. I loved it. And I guess I forgot about how much I liked it because I just now bought another horizontal layout. Let’s see how it goes.
I completely understand!! I feel like everyone uses the vertical except me!! I used a simple Walmart planner in college and it was horizontal. I tried the vertical but I felt so lost! I felt like I didn't know how to use it and also felt like I didn't have enough space!
My first ever horizontal life planner arrives tomorrow! I used the vertical one year and hourly another, and academic for our homeschool. I'm like you and write big so I thought it would work better. I had been in a daily duo for a time but I really missed seeing an entire week at once. We shall see!
I am a vertical layout girl. I accidentally ordered a horizontal weekly layout. I watched this video to give me some insight on how to make it work for me because I have no clue. Lol Thanks for the insight.
I also, love the Horizontal Planner. It just makes more sense to my brain when I'm planning for my week. Although I teach for Head Start (ages 3-5), a planner allows me to plan all the different areas we need to plan for each day. You're right about the boxes being bigger which allows for me to write more information I need on any given day. I heard about how you use hilighters in one of your other videos. I loved the idea and started using it. It's awesome. With the Stay at Home order we are working from home communicating with our families and children, providing activity packets we drop off at their doorstep etc. Plus we are doing online trainings as well. With all this I have tweaked my highlighting process. I use one color to cross out when finished and a different color to cross out knowing Inneed to move it to the next day. It helps it to stand out better for when I plan the next day.
Very similarly, I find that vertical style planner columns are too narrow for my writing and would overlap into the next day. If I did manage to stay in line, the words are choppy and take up the whole day's column. I'm a mom, nursing student, working as a tutor, and at the hospital. I need the width of the horizontal layout for the space to write in assignments & due dates, class times, kid appointments, church volunteer events, and additional info. I can make my own blocks inside that horizontal space for deeper organization of my day. I ordered a daily duo, but realized I need a weekly at a glance and flipping thru each day was not quick access enough. I sold that and am ordering a weekly horizontal LifePlanner.
Yess! I think I'm in the same boat where in grade school all the planners were horizontal style and I got use to format. And then I have tried soo many times to go to a vertical format and it just wouldn't work out. I actually find I'm more productive with a horizontal layout as well. Visually to me it's more appealing. Yessss part of that small horizontal group out there!
I LOVE LINES!.... my planner be looking a hot mess if I write without lines...no thank you. I use both! My vertical is strictly creative, stickering, scrap book memory keeping...and my horizontal is my actual day to day brain dump LIFE pen to paper planner. I LOVE IT SO MUCH. And I’m so excited I ordered flower power horizontal, and neutral vertical....I love your videos!
Thanks for making this video. I bought a vertical last year & just couldn’t make it work, which was really discouraging. When I saw the new layers design, I just fell in love with and wanted to try again. I’m going to give the horizontal a try.
I agree with all of your reasons! I purchased my first EC when the horizontal planners came out. I also love the neutral because I get to decide what color that week will be.
I have used the horizontal for about 3 years now and I love it for the space. Even if I really have nothing going on, like lately, I can journal in it. I bought the teacher planner this year for the space and I think I will be able to use it just like the horizontal. Thanks for another great video.
Thank you for share. I like horizontal as well have bean use it sins the elementary school 😄😄😄 And yes most use vertical. This video help me to not change because I was thinking about. I will keep my horizontal 💞💞🤗
I'm so glad I stumbled onto your channel! I'm a horizontal girl too and yes we are a small group!!! I don't have a lot of stuff to plan, so I use the horizontal more like a journal or scripture writing spot. My monthly view is where I keep all my "plans" because I don't need a lot of space. I just ordered my EC Horizontal last week and can't wait for it to get here.
I was the same at first - my brain understood horizontal planning. I’ve done it all my life with those Mead planners you mentioned. But, I received a used EC vertical and I loved it. It took time to adjust but I like it now. I do use a horizontal Happy Planner to memory keep/journal in.
I currently use a horizontal for a lot of the reasons you shared but I'm trying the hourly for work and daily for personal with this new launch because I need more structure to my weekly layout.
I started with vertical then quickly realized it wasn’t for me. All throughout school the planner I was provided was horizontal. In college the horizontal definitely works better for me because I have plenty of space to write down assignments and deadlines. Stickers always fit it’s just a matter of placement!
Team Horizontal rocks! I can't be doing with stickers and fluffy decoration but like you the vertical layout just gets all squished - not enough room, and I've been using the horizontal layout for over 30 years...
I have always planned horizontally in an A5 size but I really like how the vertical looks for memory planning. This year I bought both a Deluxe Monthly and a vertical Life Planner from Erin Condren.
I have been using a EC horizontal planner user and I ordered the flower power horizontal because there seems to be no calendar in the square by the notes section. I love the horizontal because there is more room for writing to do lists. In the colored squares I write down what we are having for dinner.
I used a horizontal before, then changed to the daily duo. I really missed the weekly view, though, so I bought the horizontal binder and added daily pages. But I agree! Our planners in school were given to us from the school, but they were laid out more like the EC Teacher Planner.
For the life of me I can’t get into the horizontal! 😩 I absolutely love my vertical because it’s a Map for my life lol for my week . Then I use a single sheet of perfectionist daily and that’s easier for my brain to focus on one day.
I too use horizontal layout because I write more than I decorate. I'm an avid journaler and I find that on the EC Horizontal layout I can do both things in one plannerl. Don't get me wrong I tried other layouts too, like other daily, vertical, and hourly planners but to no use. I need space to be creatively functional. Besides. I am waaaaay to apprehensive to use pretty stickers in any planners that will potentially be tossed away. Instead, I rather use all those pretty stickers and decorations in my journals that I know will be there for ages to come. I even purchase outdated EC horizontal planners just to use them as daily journaling, capturing little main snippets of my day. And this system works out beautifully!
If I still did a personal daily planner it would be horizontal. Now I use my planner to track our spending and I like the vertical to put them in categories. If you know what you like work it!
This was a cool video! Over the years I've found that I don't really like any of the traditional layouts (vertical, horizontal, most hourlies). I lasted the longest with vertical but I also hated how squished and tight the room was. I now use the "dashboard layout" that you'd find in Happy Planner but I don't use the Happy Planner brand. I LOVE this layout, it's the perfect balance of weekly and day to day planning! If Erin Condren ever came out with a layout like this I'd hop back over for sure! But for now i just use her deluxe monthly planners for budgeting. I feel like such a picky planner sometimes 😥😅
I was the same way as you in school. Loved my planner ever since 6th grade. I’m going back to EC horizontal this year because I’ve tried all the others and just couldn’t keep my attention because I always had a horizontal. I’ve been an EC customer since 2007. Looking forward to getting back to my original love. I’ve also gotten a lot of ideas from you and what would Carrie craft on Instagram(even though she doesn’t use an ECLP).
Thanks so much for this video. I was thrilled to get my first EC planner but I was starting to feel like I made a mistake by purchasing the horizontal one. It seems like everyone uses vertical. But like you, I’m used to horizontal. I feel a lot better now. Thanks again ♥️
I prefer the horizontal planner, and it frustrates me that most lines of planners have so many fewer options in horizontal. Reason #2 is why: I need more horizontal space for how I want to break up my day. And I have no issue cutting down stickers to fit, because I don't cover my planner in stickers like it seems people who use vertical planners do. In fact, in my experience, there are a LOT of people using vertical planners who cover 2/3 of the space of each day with stickers and have really only 2 or 3 things they actually "do" each day. It cracks me up to watch a lot of planner videos on UA-cam because I wish my day was that simple!!!
I use a Horizontal Happy Planner. I just love horizontal layouts! I feel like it gives me the space to write out a sentence in my planner if I want to or decorate it more and keep it brief for less busy days. I just think they are aesthetically pleasing! Thank you for showing some horizontal Love! Now I want the Erin Condren horizontal in my line up!💗💗💗
Ayesha White what sites are you using to find stickers, ect. I am new to planners. I just bought my 1st horizontal planner. Thank you! Tiffanie Thornton
When I first started planning in college, I tried horizontal but I found that when I use a horizontal, I write more & it ends up just looking like a journal entry. I wanted my planner stuff to be like little reminders, not full paragraphs & that’s what I was doing in a horizontal. I realized l am a monthly planner. Just need a big overview & notes pages for more specific information.
I just ordered my first Erin Condren Life Planner last week and I got the Horizontal layout too! I can't wait but I've noticed it doesn't seem to get as much love either!
LIke you I used the horizontal planners growig up as that was what was available, well except for a daily planner. I've been thinking of going with a vertical for my personal planner for 2021 but after watching this video I'm thinking that it may be better to stay with the horizontal instead. I can write big or small but I find that I can't put as much in the vertical as I can the horizontal. I do use the hourly for work and that is perfect though I'll be trying the daily for next year.
I also prefer the horizontal planner to the vertical ANY DAY! I tried the vertical 2 years in a row and just couldn't handle the lack of lines or real space! My planner looked awful and unorganized. I am not a big sticker person, to be honest, but I love looking at everyone's spreads. I am trying the daily duo this year because I need the space and I like the idea of having my to do's and daily schedule in one place. I will see if I end up right back with the horizontal!
My brain thinks vertically but my writing is big too. I was going to switch next year to the horizontal until they introduced the daily duo. Now I want a daily.
I am so happy you posted this! I was wondering why I couldn’t get use to the vertical layout. I can relate to all the reasons you named. Now I know, stick with horizontal.😅. My new Erin Condren is Horizontal so I’m excited about getting it! ~Jen
I'm a vertical girl because I have always been a list maker and I am also a compartmentalizer. I've tried horizontal a few times but similar to what you said, that's just not how my brain plans! I'm actually being tempted by the Daily Duo because of all the space to write and break things into different categories. I could probably make an EC horizontal work for me by separating the long box into multiple boxes across!
I don’t use Erin Condren products but I need a vertical for time blocking only and then something different for daily lists. People are so different in their lifestyles and the amount of writing they want to do in a planner. Personally I’m a list maker. Others might be happy with two words in a vertical column.
I’ve tried the vertical i love seeing all the deco other people did but it seemed like to much for me I need something simple with lines and the horizontal worked perfectly enough space to put my highlights
I like the appearance of the vertical but my brain wants to assign each box to morning, afternoon, and evening. And since I’m a night owl, nothing gets accomplished in the morning so the top box gets left empty and the middle box gets too busy. 🤦♀️ I’m better of being task oriented instead of time oriented so I think I’ll go back to the horizontal. I have used one before but sometimes I feel it isn’t structured enough. BTW, you have a great communion style!
Thank you for this. The vertical definitely doesn’t work for me anymore. I can’t write that small. I’m considering horizontal or daily duo for next year
Yes I agree that horizontal is what most are used to. I like to write notes and there is not enough space in vertical. I like the concept of vertical but just not for me!
I only use a monthly. I get lost in extra pages(my simple mind). I have struggled finding planners since this is the only way I use them. I have found a love for my Plum Paper Planner though. Thank you for sharing your reasons. I have wondered how people plan on the monthly layout and horizontally(weekly). I feel like I'd be doubling my work or forgetting something if I'm copying from monthly to the horizontal part. If that makes sense. Let me know if that makes sense and how you can keep it all together. #scatterbrained #brainFOG
I’m thinking of switching to horizontal in July. Seems like I just go back and forth between the vertical and horizontal. 🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️ After a certain grade the school I went to gave us planners. Wish I’d kept at least one of them to look back at what I wrote. Would be interesting. 😂
I began with a vertical layout and found it too restrictive. Although I do list appointments, I really like making to do list. The horizontal layout works perfectly for me to do both. I found nmh_stickercreations13 to have wonderful stickers for the horizontal layout. Thank you for highlighting this option. I wish more people would post using the horizontal option.
I bought my very first one for next year.I'm not happy with this company but I have to admit I love the life planner folio.those rock.I am wondering if your into planning on a budget, then why buy Erin condren?they are overpriced and not that flexible.they are miss leading too.I bought mine for the contact section and since I used to use the old system(business planners from the 80s and early 90s before cell phones)I expected to have a section but found only a a tab section on one side.for the money this isn't a good planner.I like adding things to my planner but I seem to have issues and just not really feeling it.I like the pictures you added to this video on how you decorate your horizontal so hopefully it will work.thanks
Planning on a budget means different things to different people. I have a budget that I work with every month. My budget is not going to look like yours. To me, the planner isn't expensive because I use it every single day. And, the layout is flexible for me.
@@TheGoldProject thank you for responding but for me and I get it,no one budget is the same but if you say your on a budget then to me that should represent every aspe t of your video including the planners.I do love your layout on the horizontal cause that's what I bought but I really do hate this company.tote is bad pockets ripping already and it took a month to get it only to be told I'm out on the returns.the upside is I'm in love with the folio to put the life planners in.it really would be the only thing that I would buy again.even the stickers are ugly...I am very happy with how you show your passion and you are the reason I bought my first for next year.but no won't do it again...thanks
Do you use an Erin Condren horiztonal LifePlanner? If so, why?
I was previously using a vertical, but I decided to try a horizontal this year ! I think it will work out much better : )
I don’t have a job that demands me to schedule hourly things, I don’t care for stickers so much (I know everyone just gasped), I don’t have children to keep track of and I love to make lists. I use mine to track daily goals, daily to do, weekly goals/to dos and I use the dashboard for monthly.

I love the horizontal. I feel like it gives me the best options for customizing the days to suit whatever is going on for that particular week. I also trim vertical kits if necessary, especially if it’s a kit I love and it isn’t offered in a horizontal option.

I am 50 yrs. I have always used horizontal planners. It allowed me enter a true full day work and Momma's duties with reminders.

Team colorful horizontal here !
My first ever horizontal life planner arrives tomorrow! I used the vertical one year and hourly another, and academic for our homeschool. I'm like you and write big so I thought it would work better. I had been in a daily duo for a time but I really missed seeing an entire week at once. We shall see!
I love horizontal for actual planning! I think verticals would be nice for memory keeping where I probably won’t write a lot.
Yes!!! I love Horizontal Planning. Always have. It’s so hard to get my eyes to work up and down!! 🤪
I use a vertical ec and vertical happy planner but love every planner!
I am a vertical layout girl. I accidentally ordered a horizontal weekly layout. I watched this video to give me some insight on how to make it work for me because I have no clue. Lol Thanks for the insight.

I also use the horizontal for a lot of the same reasons. I’ve used other planners that had horizontal layouts and they always worked for me.
I agree completely! I write big and that is the way I am used to putting things down.
I’m using horizontal as a baby book journal for my toddler to look back on - easy paragraph format.
I was the same at first - my brain understood horizontal planning. I’ve done it all my life with those Mead planners you mentioned. But, I received a used EC vertical and I loved it. It took time to adjust but I like it now. I do use a horizontal Happy Planner to memory keep/journal in.
Thanks for sharing this video I am really thinking on getting one thanks for all of your tips
I use a horizontal because I need lots of room to write. I do like decorate stickers too, but I agree they're not hard to make work in a horizontal.
Great video. I love my horizontal planner (half-sheet). I have a lot of things to do. Big handwriting too. I haven't had any problems with stickers.
I love my horizontal for all the same reasons you mentioned!
This video helped me a lot. I've been pondering on getting the horizontal lifeplanner. Thank You for this video.
Horizontal is my favorite also!
I always buy vertical because I like the look BUT like you, I write HUGE. I just bout a horizontal life planner. Thanks for the video!
Great explanation. I think I have tried many different planner layouts .
I just ordered my first Erin Condren Life Planner last week and I got the Horizontal layout too! I can't wait but I've noticed it doesn't seem to get as much love either!
Hope you enjoy it! I love mine. :)
I think all of my planners before EC planners were vertical! I’m thinking about going vertical next year to do something different! ❤❤
I love your videos so you keep on keeping on! :) You make horizontal look good! :)
You know, I never really thought about how the agenda books my school provided each year were usually horizontal planners.
Shout out to my horizontal planner people! I love horizontal because I like to write down reading assignments for my online college courses.
I’m considering horizontal or daily duo for next year
Thanks! Very few of us out there!
I also use horizontal planner, for the same reason that you used it for. Vertical is just to much for me. I just don't like vertical layout.
Space, space and space. Vertical for digital, horizontal for paper.
Team horizontal planner 👍🙂
I began with a vertical layout and found it too restrictive. Although I do list appointments, I really like making to do list. The horizontal layout works perfectly for me to do both. I found nmh_stickercreations13 to have wonderful stickers for the horizontal layout. Thank you for highlighting this option. I wish more people would post using the horizontal option.
Neutral horizontal lover over here!
I left a comet below about two days ago but I forgot to ask is there a monthly and weekly thanks
I can only use a horizontal as well.
its a life planner
