  • On January 15th Clash Discs announced TONE technology and I asked them to send me a couple of them for me to check out.
    What will they cost?
    Are they basically an overmold?
Here are my impressions of TONE technology from Clash Discs.

MVP has been working on gyro-x for some time now, a larger over mold rim. Wonder if the Tone discs is a take on this concept and flight theory.

Unfortunately I think the physics claims are dubious. Without a radial weight differential, the gyroscopic properties won’t become any more or less pronounced, which would be what gives more spin or torque resistance. Durability I could see being improved, similar to the halo star runs which have a champion-feel rim. What i would hope for is that these are less prone to splitting than the double steady. it seems potentially stronger, but also potentially weak in a way the normal discs and gyro overmolds aren't. If the edge gets even slightly split it could be disastrous for the disc’s integrity. I will say these are gorgeous. I’m hoping to see what putters and midranges look like in this plastic as well. excited to see more and more people get their hands on them!

Gyro getting distance is a myth all together. Guy put a metal rim on a disc and it made no difference with distance.

@@StroalOutdoors the only thing I can find is that a guy made a disc out of wood from scratch and put a metal rim on it. That doesn’t really prove anything about MVP gyro. I personally think the answer is that the effects are not noticeable at human levels of spin and speed but they will show when the discs are used by a high-powered throwing machine, but at this point there isn’t actually any evidence-backed answer.

@@MaxLBogue if a super dense metal rim doesn't make a difference, it's likely some slightly denser plastic doesn't make any at all.

@@StroalOutdoors he made the disc from scratch out of wood. It was 180 grams which is heavier than any PDGA legal driver. If you know anything about aerodynamics and experimentation in general, it’s not a comparison that any conclusions can be drawn from. Like I said, the difference is probably marginal enough that it will take lots of speed and spin to actually notice.

@@MaxLBogue I have drivers that are 180g. It shows that even if the materials are vastly different in density, it doesn't really matter. If MVP wanted to prove it mattered, they have the money and knowledge to do it, but they won't, because it's a gimmick.

They look fantastic! 😍 Sometimes plastic color affects stability.

But it affects the stability because they cool at different rates which changes the PLA essentially.

The look is amazing, hoping they’re nice to throw aswell.

I have heard some good reports so far but here in a few days I will be headed outside to see how they throw for me. Stay tuned.

new to clash, have a few discs (and few more coming, thank you sir) definitely kastaplast level of quality in the feel. I think they have some nuance in the actual manufacturing and finishing process to work on, but clearly they are working on that. in my brief experience, popcorn is one of the best throwing putters out there, point and shoot with a ton of glide to boot.

Damn those look good! Can't wait to spend money on all tone discs!

Love my chefs stamp Salt! Hopefully this new plastic will bomb just the same if not better!

Looking forward to the throw video. I'm in Oklahoma City, and Sunday is looking good for disc golf.

I am a big fan of the vanilla, and the cinnamon will these molds be part of the initial release?

Salt is the first mold. The only replies I get from Clash is "some popular molds" will follow.
