Interesting that Powell uses the phrase "set the Thames on fire" here. The only other time I've heard that expression is in the 1985 Tom Waits song 'Anywhere I Lay My Head'. In 1980, Powell and Waits would both find themselves working at American Zoetrope in San Francisco. I wonder if they met. That would make sense, given that they were both friends with Coppola, and that Waits would often note down interesting phrases to use in lyrics years later. I so want this to be true.
Thank you for loading this beautiful feature, but it is only the first half!! This feature is actually just shy of 23 minutes long. By the way, did you notice that the son Eric bears a striking resemblance to one of the film's original stars Niall MacGinnis (rip 1977)? Thanks again for the upload.
Wish I had an opportunity to meet this great man John Laurie....what a character he'd have been... May he rest in eternal peace
Wish I had the chance to meet John Laurie. A genius of an actor
John Laurie is so wonderful
Just watched the movie on TV, it reminded me of the evacuation of the Great Basket island off the west coast of Kerry in 1956.

I'd have loved to have met John Laurie!
love this, it's fascinating
Beautiful.
Wrong with the highest sea-cliff in Britain though ........ it's St. John's Head on the Orcadian island of Hoy that's the highest.😎

Veronica Young This was the only part of the film that the BBC broadcast at this time. It was followed by the original film itself.
