That’s is awesome, Leatherman should offer you a position. I appreciate that you showed the complete install with the little minor difficulties and all. Things never goes as plan no matter how simple if may seem.

@@Matanumi my clip on the surge sucks balls. It’s the whole reason I even bought a p2. With the integrated pocket clip and significantly lower weight, I can actually carry my p2.
sino8r2 Grab the surge if you are not going to EDC. Mine lives in my truck. It is hands down the best tool. To heavy to carry in my opinion. Charge is the best to EDC. My opinion...
Wow, your design solves one of the biggest hangups I had with the P4. Now I just may have to buy a P4 and all those sweet mods. Definitely liking the holster and bit holder combo.
The two main reasons for me to NOT get a Free P4 (and stick with a Wave+) are: first, lack of bit driver attachments, and second the magnetic aspect of the Free P4. My company sells vessel communication equipment and I do IT technician and field support work, which means doing close work with circuit boards and processor chips. I can’t have the rogue magnets on my tools, unfortunately. But other than that, this is a great modification! Definitely solves a major issue with the Free P4!
Wow ! That is just amazing. Leatherman should maybe give you the option of this. Great design. Would be cool to the how much torque you can put on this bit holder. It´s way better what Leatherman designed.
For the P4 being a New product you didn’t waste anytime on your addition idea. If I know leather man it’ll be a Mod variant II and additional $50 -$75 bucks next year. Thanks great vid and work.
That is, the two that I used. I didn’t fit the one for the saw as it would reduce the working length of the tool a bit more than would be ideal. Perhaps a redesign of the tab for the saw tool that would allow the plastic to fill the entire thumb hole, but only protrude where the rear screw hole and the last two dots in front of it are would be a better design. . . Then the working length of the tool could be largely preserved and the tab would still be able to grab the entire thumb hole for leverage.
For real, ive watched a couple leatherman mods, but, meh, not worth risking the tool for such a simple thing... ... This in the other hand, is impressive. I dont even have a P4, dont even plan to buy one and I watched the entire thing. Nice job!!!
Only now Free can be compared with Charge. Tim Leatherman should buy this in a form of a patent. Very high coefficient of useful action for the used space/weight.
I nearly bought that 4mm driver after I bought the thumb tabs. . . But I’d prefer a variant able to use the flat bits from Leatherman. The preservation of the bottle opener function was a great idea!
Joshua Driggs honestly, I could live with the omission of the bottle opener. The base of the plierhead, protruding spine of the straight blade, and a few other surfaces on the P4 should be able to aid in opening a bottle should the need arise. I’ve been using an old Leatherman Tool Adapter to give my P4 access to bits, but one of your creations would be MUCH better! The moment I see a flat bit version available, you’ll have a purchase from me!
Joshua Driggs I have an idea. . . I don’t have the know-how or access to 3D printers and design programs, but you do. Could a bit driver be made out of that same bronze-infused material that would slide over both of the existing drivers on the P Series? Obviously, it’d need to have a spring that could slide up the curved edge of the flathead and probably use the tab that the drivers use to contact the magnet as something for a spring-loaded clip to snap over to keep it in place and on the tool. But so long as the other end of such an attachment had a quarter inch opening, it could use standard bits and Leatherman ones. . . Plus it could be removed and would leave the standard tool in tact. Just an idea
@@ZapWizardI'm in for a leatherman flat bit driver, for the free p4, with the flat bit I'll be able to use the leatherman flat bit extension, you should try also that one I'm willing to buy one 😊
I've been thinking about the Thumb Tab on Free P2 and P4 ... These elements will prevent the blades from sinking vertically by causing blockages, especially on the saw.
diezelle57 This was mentioned on the Multitool Forums also. I don’t have it on the saw anymore, and I rarely use the full length on the other blades so they stayed.
This is the best mod I've seen! Almost makes me wish I would have gone for the P4 instead of another wave... Wave has always been a favorite, but i really wanted to try the P4 except for the fact that there was no bit adapter. So I ended up with another wave plus, and a T4 . It would be pretty awesome if you made a similar mod for the T4. Great work!

Aren't you worried about people doing dumb things with the 1/4" driver and breaking it ? Laser sintered metal is good but doesn't have perfect grain structure. At least the torque on the 4mm bits are limited by the physical size of the head....

This mod makes the p4 overtake the wave+ in usefulness imo. I will be purchasing one as I recently bought a p4 as my daily driver. I wonder if this mod will work on other members of the free series like the K4, which would make it a must-buy for me.
Nice idea. I went ahead and bought another charge tti to replace the one I owned for like 7 years and lost instead of this. The lack of bits turned me away as well as how the pliar claws getting jammed. My question would be why didn't you swap out the useless ruler and file instead? Peace
Quick question, would the thumb studs fit the T4? Sorry I'm not so much en edc gadget guy so much as a guy that always has an edc and likes ease, and convenience. But if so I'd like to purchase.
1 question: 1/4 inch or 1/8 inch bits? The picture looks like 1/8 inch bits. (if those are 1/2 inch squares, they have to be 1/8 inch, since two bits does not fill a square. at 0:01 the bottom bit is placed over a square with enough room below it for another bit. There is still a gap above the bit and the line. 1/8 inch bits are generally for precision devices. (watches and electronics, for example) Is the Free P4 too large/heavy for working on those?
This particular model is for 4mm hex bits. But I recommend the flat bit model for use with the P4 if you’re looking for larger bits. If you haven’t purchased your tool yet, the ARC is the best option.
I just looked these up and I'm wondering if this bit holder, as well as the thumb tabs, will work on the new Surge I just got? Contacting you here b/c I'm hoping to avoid signing up for ZapWizards unless I really have to...

Could you instead take out that ridiculous $%&*ing ruler and put the pry bar/package opener in its place, then... lose the Philips head and do the change to the bit driver?
Leatherman lost my business when I discovered they went without the bit adapter. I went with the Gerber center-drive instead. But of course the Leatherman free series is easier to use one-handed.
I'd like to see a file mod as well as the interchangeable bit mods for the p4 and maybe ti scales then I think the p4 would be the ultimate multi tool for me
Is it possible to replace some combination of tools on the opposite side (file, awl, ruler, canopener) with this instead of replacing the philips and flathead on that side?
if you know the tool well and break it in you can one hand open a wave as well... but yeah the free does feel rather nice granted and comes with a clip slapped on good as opposed to buying it separate.
