      I don't think Miazaki is a racist as being portrait. He just don't like the USA and by extension much of the white Western sphere. We all don't. Almost all of our languages has a word meaning "foreigner" that is pejorative and usually means white people from the West SPECIALLY the United States. The rest of the Spanish speaking Latin America, like Colombia, has 'murica' (we use that too), we Brazilians have "gringo", in Thailand they have "farang", in Vietnam they have Tây (which literally means "west" and is a short for người phương Tây- person from the West), and so on. I think Joe for being an Aussie and living in Japan (where "gaijin" can be pejorative for EVERY non-Japanese person) may have something of a hard time grasping the concept but the feelings Miazaki expresses and TOWARDS WHOM he expresses them is quite clear for the rest of us, specially in the so called "Global South". In Latin America we have been memeing her for a month.
    Anyway, its even more cringe than the article says
    - SHe lied on her resume to get a Job (as graphic designer) at TecnoGlass
    - When the movie was nomiated to the OScars, Tecnoglass decided to make a small promo feature of her. She literally couldnt lie so she went with it. Its a whole ass corporate video talking about how tecnoglass hires talents, the CEO and her boss talk about how proud they are to have emerging Colombian Talent working for them
    - The video went viral, local press started to interview her, she was in Colombian newspapers!
    - A university decided to PAY HER to speak to future animators
    - Real animators started to suspect she wasnt telling the truth since the language she uses wasnt technical for animation (She said drawings, but never talked about inbetween, fotograms, etc).
    - When the twitch streamer interviewes her so she had her "right to reply" and defend the acusations, he asked her to show her best drawings she had at hand. After all she said she hand drew 200.000 "drawings" (she called them that instead of fotograms) so he asked if he had a hand drawing she could show.
    She proceeded to take a school notebook, with doddles and drawings much like the ones the quiet anime emo kid used to draw in the back of the class at 15 yr old. Meaning, not bad, but not profesional grade by no means.
    When he said "Those are your best drawings?"
    SHe started to stutter and said, "welll yeah this is just a sketchbook and Its a quick draw I did"
    She was ultimately fired from Technoglass, and went in hiding like Joey said
    In spanish, there are a lot of memes that dont quite translate as well or as funny.
    THe boy and the hare is called "El Niño y la Garza" in spanish. And she was memed to theath with the phrase "La niña y la Farsa" (the girl and the lie)

      I'm only speculating here, but I think there's a possibility she got caught up in her own lie. She lied to get a job, but probably wasn't expecting Tecnoglass to make a whole show out of this when the movie got nominated. That's where she realized she couldn't back down anymore, this was too big, so she lied more and more, hoping nobody would discover the truth.

  • @monologuesofablueogre1869
    @monologuesofablueogre1869 11 місяців тому +160

    Colombian resident here.
    This story was a big boom. The reason why a lot of people straight up just believed it is because Anime (Or animation in general) is not as popular over here (the cinema where I watched the movie was almost entirely empty, and was one of the smallest cinemas in the city). Peope just don't care too much about it, sadly.
    For people who actually like anime, I'd say it was clear that something was fishy. For once, the 25,000 frames was clearly bullshit. The girl never ever showed drawings either (which is insane to me).
    The main fault of this directly falls on the media outlets that decided to spread missinformation like they had found the chicken of the golden eggs. Again, animation is not a big part of Colombian culture so its understandable that they didn't know anything about it, but their mistake was just deciding to publish the information and do the interviews without even considering the possibility of them lying.

    • @Krystal40553
      @Krystal40553 10 місяців тому

      Personally I think part of the reason is most Spanish media outlets just believe everything at face level and don’t bother to dig more into it. They just want to make a story and get money that’s all, I’m Mexican American but my mom is from Mexico, and you wouldn’t believe how much bullshit Mexican news media throws out without research and how much Mexicans eat it up.
      The whole anime especially Pokémon is demonic was such a big story on the news as I recall the news having interviews of demonic possession from anime, my mom believe that crap and destroy all my anime vhs tapes as a kid to avoid demonic influence and possession because “she saw it on the news,”. Then the whole 5G crap too was huge on Mexican news. Doesn’t help most Mexicans are highly religious and superstitious and the news preys on that, no wonder Mexico is filled with anti government and conspiracy theories as that is what is seen on the news.
      Spainsh media is one of the worst I swear as they barely do any actual reporting except on big events like natural disasters.

    25,000 frames for 10 seconds. That's some very detailed animation... Completely unrelated, but the most anime ever gets up to is 24 frames/second and that is pretty uncommon, reserved for fast paced action scenes. Most scenes in anime are 12-16fps, but they've developed work arounds so you don't notice it. Ever notice how static most conversation scenes are? Or how there's a lot of walking scenes that show the legs as little as possible?

    • @fattiger6957
      @fattiger6957 11 місяців тому +56

      @Tojinaru I think high frame rate is only necessary in video games where it can affect player reaction time.
      Frame rate in animation is often a creative choice. You can achieve different effects and feelings with different framerates. I do think high framerate is a good idea for action scenes so the motion can look more fluid and dynamic.
      Of course, framerate is also based on budget and time. The more frames to animate, the more expensive and time consuming it is. That's why TV anime, where the budgets are tight and they are constantly on a time crunch, features more shortcuts and workarounds. That's why every episode of Sailor Moon included the same 30 second transformation sequence.

    • @UltimateGattai
      @UltimateGattai 11 місяців тому +7

      @@fattiger6957honestly high frame rates kinda mess you up when you go back to watching TV. Even switching a game from 60fps down to 30fps... Makes the 30fps feel stuttery and intolerable.

    • @HimmelWeint
      @HimmelWeint 11 місяців тому +3

      24 is pretty common for most higher budget movie animes which tv broadcast would get animated in 1s for higher budget action scenes and 2s for the slower parts and sometimes even 3s where they repeat the frame 3 times so effectively 1/3 of 24fps. But just straight up solo mode 25,000 frames is not how the anime industry makes their shit anyways

    • @Going4Broke2528
      @Going4Broke2528 11 місяців тому +1

      @@fattiger6957Framerate can also serve as a rather effective technique in filmmaking. The original Godzilla from 1954 had all scenes featuring the full suit in motion filmed at nearly double the standard framerate for the time, which would then be played back at the standard rate. This made every movement the suit actor performed have more weight, made it feel slower, more ponderous, while simultaneously making it easier to believe you were looking at giant lizard instead of a man in a suit. It was rather intuitive for the time, and really helped to sell the practical effects used.

It is NOT all foreigners. In fact I'd bet Miazaki would TOTALLY sit with a latino to make fun of them, based on his interviews.

      @lbarachieloftheblack9697 Exactly. Miazaki repeatedly talked about Imperial Japan. His main message in his work is an anti-war message. What he calls imperialist wars. It's a bit more nuanced than being unlikely he would praise a Colombian because he is "racist" and "far right nationalist." Japanese far right nationalist would HATE his position on Imperial Japan. I think it's more likely he would join a grumpy latino badmouthing the USA. In one instance, f I remember it correctly he even mentions the US role in the war in Nicaragua. As an Aussie I think joey isn't familiar with this type of resentment. In modern politics it would be represented by the BRICS and many countries not joining The US and Europe in sanctioning russia NOT because they are "pro-Putin' or something but because it's the USA and Europe basically bossing us around and we just have the chance to say, "you can get to be around giving me orders, murica!'

    As a graduating animation student , that girl has no clue about animation at all. The girl couldn't even do a proper ball animation during the interview. If she couldn't even bounce a ball, how could she animate 25 000 frames of the film, spoiler; she cant. The ball exercise is essential even for a veteran animator to practice. And also that amount of frames for one person is absurd, even for anime industry standards. The movie I have seen with the most frames was The Thief and The Cobbler and it was 48 frames per second which was admittedly more than the average amount of frames but still 2500 frames per second...idk what she was thinking. Probably not at all.
    And I love how folks instantly bought it without a single thought. And without asking for proof or process work. Sure it can depend on contract HOWEVER she could've displayed her own personal work which she did not. First she she claimed to be an illustrator, then it was animator. Couldn't even tell the difference between illustrator and animator. And I love how she cant keep up with consistency in her own lie. You also know its bs when she claimed that Miyazaki praised her. He wouldn't do that for his own son but he would for a complete stranger, suuuuuuuuure!

      30 FPS may be a little outdated as a standard in current era, but a staple 60 FPS is considered good and 120FPS requires specific games + specific hardware + *specific monitor* to even achieve.
      In other words, not only human can't see that many frames at all (I'm pretty sure the brain will discard the majority as junk), NO display on earth can even play that many frames per second. So how can this claim even be possible? 🤣

    I'm working for a japanese company and while we never work on anime, we do works on games as well as help some other big names outthere like Nintendo and Square Enix, and even tho its basically just outsourcing with 3d modelling/script/design more or less, some studio will sometime ask our name to be add into the end game credits. And tbh altho it does feel good to see my name in that small patchs.of text sometime. So if any claim to be big in some big studio, or directly involved with those studio, tell them to show u where are their name in the credit roll

    The amount of memes from this situation was marvelous. Imagine that "fustrated miyasaki" photo and a text template saying "Mr Miyazaki, here is the coffee made by the colombian girl"

    It's now going to get out but I also worked on boy and the heron. I did 240 frames. Sure I don't have any animation experience but trust me bro. I worked with Miyazaki but my name isn't in the credits 😂

    I love the fact that if she had lied by saying she only did a small part of the movie, maybe people would've not even found her lie, at least non professionals, but no, she had to be the breadwinner of the movie

    Yes, this got pretty viral in the spanish community, specially when many non anime fans went to watch this movie.
    Is always sad to see people trying to scam, specially in this case, because The Boy and the Heron is a very special movie (not only becaus it is a great movie, but because it is the last movie of Hayao Miyazaki).

    Growing up is learning everyone lies a bit to get a job, becoming successful is learning how much to lie and how to it well. One of the first rules of lying is to not lie too big, because eventually someone is gonna fact check your bs.

    OMG!, I was laughing so hard before clicking on the video! Because I was eagerly waiting for you to react to this new. Here in LATAM she was walking meme, and everytime she spoke on the media, she makes it worse. By the way, I feel really bad for the artist community on her country that got the bad aftermath for this action, because I have seen really talented colombian artists, and they don't deserve the bad reputation. Because this escalated so quickly and she was spotted lying by journalists and youtubers who interviewed her, but she keep saying that she worked at Ghibli Studio. It could happened in my country, but happened in Colombia. Despite of that, this situation was a half laughs and half shame.

      La verdad como colombiano yo queria que el hablara de esto solo para ver su reacción, epico escucharle diciendo "el heraldo" y "the colombian". Al final la historia dio buenos memes entonces pa que estar avergonzados.

    25,000 frames is 17.5 minutes of film at standard 24 frame per second frame rate. That's 1/8 of the movie. Most anime is done on "2s" or "3s", so 12 or 8 drawings per second.
