17:16 "Wherever you go, you will be wrong... because you are in Philly." is by far the most correct statement on the topic of Philly Cheesesteaks. You can even go to a random town in New Jersey and get a much better sandwich than that crap they sell in Philly tourist traps.
@@RecklessFables yeah. I'm pretty sure she's talking about Donkeys Place. I definitely wouldn't send out of towners over there. The PATCO station ain't anywhere near close enough to that place for a reasonable walk.
"Philly, you're making this really hard." Yes, Graham, welcome to Philly. This is the city that made Gritty their mascot, they're ornery by nature; without an external force to resist, as in the case of the cheesesteak question, they turn that orneriness on one another. It's why they're easily my favorite city.
To be fair, regular TV is awful, but nowhere near as bad as the default ad setting for youtube videos, which is apparently a block of ads every 3 to 5 minutes. A sincere thank you to LRR for not doing that to us!
I used to be a dirty adblocker but honestly UA-cam premium is totally worth it. Having no ads on smart TVs, phone etc is fantastic. AND I know I'm actually supporting content creators still.
There is a Jewish proverb that says, "A couple in love can sleep on the edge of a sword. There is no bed large enough for two people who fallen out of love." Yeah, not having a bigger bed sucks, but that just means more snuggling for the gay couple. Whereas I would suspect Graham and Ben would fall into the other category. (Not implying that Graham and Ben's relationship had ever been a romantic one.)
At the first PAX South, I stayed in a hotel with a microwave and I got a couple of those cups of mac and cheese where you just add water and powder. I also forgot to get a fork. Instead of going to the front desk, I just used Doritos as scoops/spoons.
I appreciate that you understand that giving some to the camera doesn’t involve shoving the food in the lens. You wouldn’t push a chicken nugget in someone’s eye.
This is great! I used your first set of Philly vlogs to help plan our trip there (thanks for the heads up on getting tickets to the Mutter museum!) I always love watching your travels.
Pretty sure one of the monsters at 23:10 (person on left) is Gabe Hicks!! He's a really cool personality in the TTRPG space and would love to see him do stuff with LRR!
... your interview with Sarah, and the fact that they mentioned going over to New Jersey, made me realise that I've been mixing up the locations of Pittsburgh and Philadelphia this entire vlog. And probably the last vlog in Philadelphia, too.
Saw you guys at Reading but didn't want to butt into your meal. Cool seeing you both come to Pax. Hopefully you had a good time. That wrap-around line was indeed bananas.
Oh hey! I'm glad you guys had a good time in my home city! I missed the chance to say hi (Didn't want to waylay you on your way in the door when the line was moving) so uh. Hi! I'll catch ya next year!
I know that no one has asked nor am I even that qualified to answer, but the best cheesesteak I have had is from The American Cheesesteak Company in Metrotown mall in Burnaby (which isn't in America, and the owner isn't American either. Same vibes as Boston Pizza and New York Fries. We are bad at this). It's a cheesesteak fusion place that does standard loadouts as well as Korean and Vietnamese variants. They also have very good frozen custard.
While I have not watched the rest of the PAX U blogs yet I do hope someone mentioned Jim's on South as the best place for a cheesesteak and then followed up with "oh you can't go it caught on fire"
16:28 Victoria and Brian were our Two-Headed Giant Convention Booster Sealed Deck opponents round one and they were awesome! We built better decks after that and did much better! Thank you for a great match! -Dan
One more for the Great Cheesesteak Hunt: John's Roast Pork (really). They've won multiple "best cheesesteak" awards. The catch is it isn't close to the convention center (10+ min by car) and they close at 5:00 (and not open Sunday). But if you are in a day early, a good get. I've also heard good things (but have not personally had) Dalessandro's. That is even further away though (but better hours). Really though, you can get a decent cheesesteak in most random pizzerias in Philly.
Protip: if you want to add beef jerky to ramen, add it early so that it has a chance to soften. I've never done it with ramen per-se, but it works for soups and stews.
So I'm from the Philly area and lemme tell you the truth. There's lots of great cheesesteak places. Everyone in Philly has an opinion about which is best, everyone has a *strong* opinion, and they all say different places. If it's a place doing cheesesteaks, they're probably going be good because if they aren't, nobody will eat there. I like Ishkabibbles because the cheesesteak is pretty good and they're less crowded than other places. But if you have a cheesesteak and you like it, guess what, you chose correctly. There's a Japanese Crepe place in Chinatown that's open super late, you should try it out sometime, it's one of my favorite places in the city.
3:48 OK SO FUN FACT I HAVE ACCIDENTALLY IGNITED THAT VERY BRAND OF YAKISOBA! I forgot to put *any* water in it, ignited the noodles and melted half the container. No further damages.
Adding Jeef Berky to ramen is a solid idea, but I think it might work a little better if you rehydrate it or otherwise soften it a bit first. of course, that would be practically impossible in a hotel room. ETA: I live in one of the biggest cities in Australia. Our entire convention centre is about the size of the lobby of the place you were in.
From what I've heard, yeah, asking where to go in Philly for the best cheese steak is like asking for the best pizza in New York or Chicago. You're never going to get a single definitive answer, especially NOT from the locals. As the saying goes, opinions are like assholes, everyone's got one.
But, you will get people to rattle off their favorite spots though, especially when you're talking pizza in Chicago. I will say this, Giordano's is a tourist trap, there's better pizza.
I regularly get the same ramen that Gram has. It’s pretty good, but I do agree his noodles were not cooked all the way. That makes the experience, understandably, a lot worse. I usually get water to just above the fill line. I rather there be excess water than uncooked noodles.
hot take: 5 two-minute commercial breaks that the program is designed to place in prepared spots is better than 2 five-second-skip breaks that happen mid -sentence with no warning.
Loved the search for Cheesesteak. Hope you have given The Supershow by SRG Universe a shot, they have been at a lot of the conventions you have been to not a MagicCon. Wrestling based Cards and Dice game. With a great community and many characters to play as.
I am 14 seconds into this video and wanted to comment to say that that opening was delightful. Also I think I've been pronouncing "in medias res" wrong.
Isn't the lack of popular consensus on the topic of the 'best' Philly Cheesesteak actually a good sign? Also, could 'cheesecake quest' be a freudian slip regarding a possible successor to Road Quest?
Graham... You keep walking right past it. The best Cheese steak is in reading terminal market. Right at the front. Carmens is the best Cheese steak. Obama went there.
It is time to engage with the youtube engagement false deities. I think tossing the jerky in with the noodles before microwaving them would have been interesting and I look forward to ruining a perfectly good instant noodle this way.
"Wherever you go, you will be wrong, because you're in Philly."
Truth
If being here is wrong, I don't like your right
I love the random Windows 10 login on the Billboard at 11:45. Completley ignored and yet I couldn't not stare
Was just about to comment on that XD
The Search for Steak is my favourite of the original SnakTrek movies

25:40 Don't send Canadian's to Camden!!!!!
That ones a classic but I think The Undiscovered Cheese is pretty underrated.

What ads are you talking about? I'm not getting any ads at all. uBlock Origin is pretty good.
I used to be a dirty adblocker but honestly UA-cam premium is totally worth it. Having no ads on smart TVs, phone etc is fantastic. AND I know I'm actually supporting content creators still.
Reading Terminal Market is one of the greatest places on Earth. I will go to any event in Philly just for an exaggerated excuse to go there.
i love graham and ben having the opposite problem of a lot of gay couples where they book a king/queen and get changed to two singles.
There is a Jewish proverb that says, "A couple in love can sleep on the edge of a sword. There is no bed large enough for two people who fallen out of love."
Yeah, not having a bigger bed sucks, but that just means more snuggling for the gay couple. Whereas I would suspect Graham and Ben would fall into the other category. (Not implying that Graham and Ben's relationship had ever been a romantic one.)
My wife spotted Graham Sunday afternoon and I was like “Na, nobody from LRR mentioned being here.”
We did, a lot 😭
Whereas I had the opposite, of keeping an eye out for you guys but never running into you Saturday@@GrahamStarkVlogs

Always a good day when graham graces us with his vlog!

I was wondering that! Thinking 'that monster looks super familiar' 😂
Watching regular TV at least gives that old nostalgic experience of having to yell "It's ONNNN!" at the bathroom door...
Hell yeah new vlog! Thank you for all the work you put into these; they're always incredible!

Graham and Ben getting the true Philly experience with looking for cheesesteaks helps remind me why I love this city. Go birds
No no. Tell me more about Cheesecake Quest.
Saw you guys at Reading but didn't want to butt into your meal.

11:44 I love the Windows login screen on the big screen 🤣
Good spot
Oh, man. Now I am even more upset that I nearly broke my ankle on Friday morning of PAX Unplugged 2023! I missed spotting you guys!
As a someone who lives a “short” distance away from Philly, I loved hearing these takes on the Cheesesteak debate.
7:48 the "it's been a while" caught me off guard, well played

Woohoo, more GVlogs! This one made me very hungry
Plus is US ordinary TV, which from when I was there last was like 5 minutes of ads for every 5 minutes of televised content.
Awesome vlog - and a cameo by GabeJamesGames!
Regular TV is best avoided with a DVR, so that A) the shows are on your schedule and B) you can fast forward through every commercial break.
I'm surprised Graham and Ben hadn't seen Yakisoba before. It's a classic microwave ramen on the east coast.
West Coast, too.

The good cheesesteak is in another castle. It sounds like a scam to push mediocre sandwiches.
Hershels is so good! have you been to Dinics?
Mmm finger food ramen
I was like "Why do I know Asmadi Games?" and then Aegean Sea got held up (I backed it on Backerkit).
