You just made my wife's day! she bumped into you and got a selfie in Zermatt. I asked her if Brett drilled/quizzed her on if she had done her train pass research, and which ones she bought and WHY!??? For the record, HALF FARE CARD and SWISS TRAVEL PASS FLEX. She just got caught up in company layoffs and I told her what better time to reset her compass than to go to Switzerland since we've been watching all y'all's videos every day. So, a month to explore hence the 15 day FLEX... Based in Grachen. Love your channel. Love my wife!!!!
We were supposed to stay up at the Brienz Rothorn in mid-September 2024 but our reservation got cancelled due to flood damage to the cog rail. We were so disappointed. But we did take a boat ride on Brienz and it was nice way to pass the afternoon.
I really enjoyed the video! It was full of good information. Thanks for sharing "16 Things To Do in Brienz, Switzerland | Lake Brienz, Giessbach, Brienzer Rothorn." Keep up the great work!
@@AplinsintheAlps can I ask you couple questions? Let’s say I fly from Florida airport to Zurich airport and explore the villages from Interlake, Lauterbrunnen, Brienz should I get a hotel for each or a train pass ?
You could definitely explore each of those villages from a single home base in the region. And we definitely find a train pass to be useful, even if it's just a Half Fare Card!
Thank you very much for sharing, another great video 🦋 will you please tell me what month did you film your video? I’m am trying to figure out the best month for me to visit and it would be very helpful if you include the month in your videos if possible. Thank you again, take care 🦋🇲🇽
Ooo, that’s a tough question! We love the color of Lake Brienz and a boat ride Giessbach Falls a lot. But if you can only visit one village, we’d probably pick Thun over Brienz. Although let’s be honest, both are amazing towns and lakes so you really can go wrong! 🙃
I think some of your crew were in there behind the falls! But didn’t know if they’d all like a full feature 😉 But we couldn’t resist filming with you guys that day since the water was SO full!
You went on the Schnitzlerweg in Axalp! We loved our time spent up there last year. Our first exploratory trip to Switzerland was in 2012, too, and we went to Ballenberg then. Wouldn't it be something if we were there the same time and our paths crossed!
That would have been amazing if we crossed paths back in 2012!!! We had a chance to meet a few other travelers on that trip and wish we had stayed in touch with them, even all these years later 😊
Would you believe that five years ago today, we were on the Lotschberg sailing (paddling?) across lake Brienz? It’s another lovely village isn’t it and I remember going to the open air museum when I was 10! Looking forward to returning to go up the brienzer rothorn and I want to try the chair lift at Axalp which I didn’t even know existed! This is another great video, keep it up 😀
It’s so fun to hear you relive your memories of Switzerland! Thanks for always sharing and commenting - we recognize your name on every video 😊 And we hope you get to revisit the Brienzer Rothorn and try out Axalp too!!
After checking so many videos for Switzerland, I find that yours are the most helpful, as I will be in Brienz for a few days. Is is easy to get to Axalp? I have been looking for easy hikes around, but did not find an actual trail
Heya! Thanks for all the videos, going on my own Switzerland trip next month! I wanted to ask for your advice though, what kind of train/travel pass would you guys recommend if I'm entering in Geneva and want to take a train or a scenic train to Grindelwald?
So fun! We hope you have an amazing solo trip! We have a free Train Pass Checklist on our website where you can plug in your activities and find out which pass is best for your personal itinerary! www.aplinsinthealps.com/resources
Thanks for this great video. From the church in Brienz you can see Iseltwald as wel. If you like ice cream, then please visit 'Sweetride' in Böningen, wich is at the other side of Lake Brienz.
You’re right, you can also see Iseltwald from there! I haven’t had ice cream at Sweet Ride, but Brett has had coffee there. I’ll try it the next time we’re in Bönigen! 👍
Brienzer Rothorn closed until May 2025 due to the the mid August storm damage. Bummer. Also the train line between Meiringen through Brienz onto Interlaken is closed until at least Sept 29. Replacement buses running. Thanks to Jana and Brett for all the great videos and suggestions. Going in less than two weeks.
You're right, we're so sad about the damage in Brienz and on the Rothorn. Hopefully things can be repaired quicker than expected. Enjoy your upcoming trip!
Hi Jana, Brett & Baby Aplin 🤩 Hope ya'll can help me. We'll be in Grindelwald next week. Is Brienz ok to visit after the storm? Can we still do the boat tour? TIA!
Hi! The boats are open on Lake Brienz, but you'll need to check the Brienz website here for updates. www.brienz.ch Psst - we share current event updates like this on our weekly email list! www.aplinsinthealps.com/newsletter
Great question! You take bus 155 from Brienz to the Axalp, Sportbahnen stop. Then you're basically at the chairlift station. Hope you have better weather there than we did on our last visit!!
@@AplinsintheAlps Fat chance! It's raining today too! Thank you for the bus information. And then in your video it looks like there is a connection (a trail?) from Axalp to Giessbach Hotel and the waterfall? If so, it looks like a really cool "triangular" trip from/to Interlaken: train-walk-bus-chairlift-hike-funicular-boat back.
Basically, just make sure you plan time at Trübsee (a middle station between Engelberg and Titlis). Incredibly beautiful, amazing playground, a few restaurants, and some adventure activities (like a zipline).
Yes, great question! There are actually a few clips we included from boat rides a few years ago. Currently no requirements that you need to know about!
The Aplins helped us prepare for our 2 week trip across Switzerland. Thanks Aplins for helping us make it a bucket list holiday. 🎉

Brienz was one of our favorite places during our trip to Switzerland. This video is making feel like I need to go back again!
How neat that it was one of your favorite places! The beauty never gets old, even after multiple trips :)
In the 70's i was as a child with my parents at Brienz on summer vacation, some places are still the same...i can remember the RothornBahn ..Cool!
Wow, that's so neat! We can only imagine what it was like to visit back then :)

4:12 You can also rent a... floating Jacuzzi. I think it's mostly during the cold months, imagine a nice hot bath floating about the lake in January.
