    hi and thanks for making this well presented video, you have answered a lot the questions I asked you in my email, i will watch this again and see which blades are available to me in the UK, I do not anticipate becoming a jigsaw specialist just like to improve my hobby, doing as many things as possible, just to push the boundaries, to prove to myself I can do it, thanks again

      I also made a video about them. Look back in my history for the video with the thumbnail of me holding up my fingers in the sign of a peace sign with the two cots on my finger tips.

    When you said you use a laminate to seal the image to the wood are you talking about a thermal laminator or cold press? Xyron makes a cold press laminator in 9 inch, 12 inch, and larger sizes. The two smaller machines use a cartridge system that is easy to insert and remove once you've depleted the roll. The larger one is a bit more involved. Same basic idea as the smaller ones it uses two rolls but they are not in a carrier bracket. The two smaller ones allow thicknesses of 5mm for materials. For my needs laminating an image to a substrate is a simple matter of placing the picture on top of the substrate an then cranking the handle as I feed it into the machine. The rollers on the machine grab the two and the dual-sided laminating begins. Just keep a steady cranking motion until all the material has been run through the machine. These types of cold press lamination machines are quiet, simple to use, and when you cut into them they won't de-laminate. You'' need to check if they are pH neutral and acid-free, but I believe they are. The smallest of the three also has a laminate/magnet cartridge which is handy for making cool projects. Again the thickest material you can use is 5mm.

    The Pegas MG blades are available from www.bearwood.com/scroll-saw-blades-modified-geometry.html. Olson is still in business, and are available at Ace and Menards.
    The soft foam is available at Walmart, Hobby Lobby, amazon, and elsewhere, as is tracing/release paper. For fixative, ModPodge is what scrapbookers use.

    Hi, I also was sent by Steve Good. I've been a fan of his for years and years. Anyway, I am wondering what you have on the ends of your fingers when you are cutting? It looks like you cut the ends off of some gloves. Are they rubber?
    Thanks

      David,
      Depending on your finger size, these are what I use. I like the medium Size.
      Small is too tight for my fingers, (I am 6'3" and 230-240lbs) and the large really are too Large! hahaha
      A bag of 300 will last you a few years. They are crazy durable. I trash a set of four once every month or so.

    Do you need to do any sanding after cutting? If so how do you do it?

    • @masterpuzzlemaker
      @masterpuzzlemaker  4 роки тому +1

      Makmlost, Yes, I sand the back of my puzzles after I have fully cut them... I'll make a video of the simple process in the coming couple of days! Great idea. Thank you.

      Although almost everything you cut with any blade needs sanded, Pegas Modified Geometry blades drastically reduce the sanding needed

      @masterpuzzlemaker  4 роки тому

      @@pcicchin , Very true, but to get a perfect smooth puzzle back, sanding is "always" required, even with the best blade cut possible. Mod-Geo blades, are quite lovely though. I use a few kinds. Thanks for pointing that out Paul.

    Great video, thanks. I have been cutting puzzles for a month now free style and getting better. I am using the Super 77 with good results, but would like to try the heat press method. Could you give me or lead me to some more information on exactly what I need to do this. Like the special glue, and laminate. I see Amazon carries lots of heat presses. Thank you

      I only have experience with a SEAL Flat press. I originally had one that was about 16" x 20" in size, and then also bought a larger one that was about 20" x 30"
      They are Big, and HEAVY!!! The large one weighs around 100 pounds (45 Kilos).
      I think I still have my old one in my friends warehouse Down in NJ. I bought it around 2000, used (Its an old Model) and used it for about 3 years (before upgrading to my current technique) I remember buying it for $600. If my friend still has it, I'll ask him to pull it off the shelf and photograph it. I'd sell it for $300 plus freight.
      you need to be attentive. And having a Thermal Thermometer (Like a laser gun) is the best way to check the platen temp. They are great machines, but they are not forgiving if you leave them on and unattended. They will COOK your image in a heart beat if you walk away for more than 3-4 minutes for a phone call or to get the dog out, etc.
      If interested, let me know, and I'll see if my friend can locate it.

    Mark, can you provide your source for purchasing the Finland Birch ? I was looking online and seemed very expensive, also looking for precut pieces because I do not have a table saw. Thanks.

      Hi there Robert. My wood supplier would do no one any good unless they plan to spend a few thousand dollars. My supplier has a minimum order that’s approximately 1000 pounds of wood. And they do not sell it in small chunks at all. That’s completely on you. When I place my next order which probably won’t be until this summer, providing that I can actually get some with the current world situation. I’ll probably buy an extra 20 full-size sheets so I can break them down and sell them to you hobbyists add a small mark up for my efforts. Probably will still be a lot cheaper than what some places charge online. Until then, I think you’re stuck with having to get it from the small hobby shops. There is a scroll saw store in Walcott Massachusetts. I don’t know if they’re still open, but I know they sell it perhaps you can get it from them at a decent price? I don’t know.
