- Catfish eat just about ANYTHING, we all know this, but what bait works best. I have ALWAYS been a "purist" and use cutbait/livebait 100% of the time. This day, I decided to change it up. Does Kool-Aid work for catfish? How about soaked into chicken titties, and feet? The results were SURPRISING..

I found out you should use jello. This was posted in a catfish group on Facebook
Adding gelatin to chicken for catfish bait and why it does work,
Gelatin is a translucent, colorless, flavorless food ingredient, derived from collagen taken from animal body parts. It is brittle when dry and gummy when moist. It may also be referred to as hydrolyzed collagen, collagen hydrolysate, gelatine hydrolysate, hydrolyzed gelatine, and collagen peptides after it has undergone hydrolysis.
When you add gelatin to chicken it makes the outside of the chicken get a hard coating causing it to stay on the hook longer, but more importantly it adds amino acids to the chicken, if you compare the amino acid profile of gelatin to the amino acid profile of a bluegill you will notice that the percentages of amino acids may be higher or lower but they do have the same amino acids... when adding gelatin to chicken you're not only making it hold on the hook but you're trying to boost the amino acid profile to match the same levels or get them higher than what the catfish are currently feeding on...
It's not the cherry flavor or the red color or the fact it hold on the hook better... it's all about amino acids
Amino acids present in gelatin are variable, due to varying sources and batches, but are approximately
Glycine 21%
Proline 12%
Hydroxyproline 12%
Glutamic acid 10%
Alanine 9%
Arginine 8%
Aspartic acid 6%

Hey brotha, my rig for these mid to large channel cats is medium action 7' foot avocet. and and 14lb crystal Flor carb line does the trick keeps the fight fun. Little beacon glow stick on the tip of the pole propped up in a telescoping pole holder. and a size 1/0 circle hook. Or size 2 drop shot hook on a Carolina rig not many flattys just smaller channel cats here so I keep it lighter.
Alright.. I don’t usually comment, but I have to give you credit for this one! I just caught a 20 lb catfish on this bait concoction in a Louisiana back bayou that it’s unheard of to do this on a line. Thank you! I added a tablespoon of garlic powder, two boneless breasts, and 3 packets of unsweetened cherry (for you) Koolaid. This is actually legit! Wow.

I just recently used this at a local heavily fished pond. And it was non stop action with 4+lb channels. Biggest around 7lbs by my 10 year old daughter. Cherry koolaid and chicken breast is the best.
Pro tip... Hold the chicken between the sides of the bags with your hand on the outside then run the hook through. Hands won't get dirty or sticky or stained that way.
Also add some of the same flavor jello mix in a few tablespoons of boiling water plus a tablespoon of garlic powder and mix. Then mix that with the chicken and the kooilad. Let that set up in the fridge for a day.
Turns gelatinous and the flavor dissolves slower so the bait stays yummy for the fish for longer.

If you are ever in central Oklahoma you need to go to OSU campus in Stillwater. They have a pond in the middle of campus and there are some big bass and catfish in there. I’ve caught a 6lb bass, 10lb channel, several 10-15lb flatheads and one flathead that broke my 30lb braid. The best bait is palm size bluegill under a slip bobber. I know it’s a long reply but you won’t regret going there.

I've always had great luck with T.V. bait shrimp. Goes on easy and stinks for ever. Its in the frozen seafood area of most grocery stores. Give it a try.

Let them sit for 2-3 days in jello or koolaid drain chicken will get tougher and harder to get off the hook. Sometimes do that with livers too and dehydrate.

One bait I have not seen you use or mention. And when I was toad about it. I figured his guy was pulling my chain.....toad him nothing eats them. Dogs foam at the mouth when they eat them. Blue, flatheads and channel all eat them. It’s the beautiful told, any size any flavor, bigger the told, you only catch bigger fish. And I have caught up to five fish on the same told before. I toad you so. Ya I am from the corn cob state too. I mostly river fish.

A local owned fishing bait shop started selling chicken breasts in a bag marinated in strawberry kool aid years ago they said “it’s what they’re biting on” so me granpa bought a bag and it was cheap our first time around using it pulled about 5 big channel cats long story short great bait and us and the neighbors ate well that night on them cats
