It is funny with the scoring, to hear how Perkins is much further behind Kjell than we expected. While at the same time his dots score is 7 points higher lol. The format is interesting, but I think the biggest misfortune is the fact that Kjell and Perkins would likely compete in the same class if it wasnt for the format leaving that 66 opening.
Perk had a bad meet right? Right? Dawg, with that performance alone he still is the best pound for pound (DOTS and GL, btw). So 100% agree it's crazy that he did "so badly" while having one of the best performances ever (only behind others of his own!). I guess we were all expecting something crazy like 870-880 (which honestly I think is feasible*), but that would have been equivalent to the 800 for Kjell... * he benched 215 a few times in prep, albeit some touch and go, so one might expect 5-10kg more on his bench (missed 205 seemingly due to carpet, so maybe new pad helps on the other end?), and something looked off with his deadlift, almost if he was unpeaked for it. He could have gotten in the 850-860, but he was dealt a bad hand for the meet anyway
Woah I didn't realise this was the Jonnie Candito at first...I'm a huge fan man! Also yeah but can't forget that Kjell caused a significant jump to the 74 WR before dropping down. And if it was that easy could Perk have dropped down to 66 and done the same thing? Maybe, but we'll never know.
THANK YOU for the take on pana. everyone glazes him on social media for all his lifts done at 69-70kg and he doesn’t even pause his benches close to IPF standards in training. his highest total doesn’t come close to kjell and that was at 69.7. Pana’s streak on the 66’s was similar to Russ after gibbs was done
Yeah, as good as the constant grinding and maxing out in training is for social media you have to wonder if it's doing him many favours when it comes to his training...
I know it’s hard, but including footage of the lifts if that’s not a copyright issue would be a game changer for these vids. First vid of yours that I watched and I love it man
Pana needs to bulk to 83. I’m so tired of watching him make no progress by forcing himself to be so lean and grind out all his lifts so hard. He’d do so much better by taking 2 years off from competing and putting a bunch of weight on
Not sure about 83 haha but I agree he definitely needs to move up to the 74s at least. Imagine how much more he could grind with more bodyweight to support him...
He was given a down command though...so I guess it comes down to whether or not lowering the bar while it slips out of your hands (but not losing contact) counts as "lowering under control"
@@PresserPowerlifting We'd really need to see the video itself with live audio of the "down" command. If he got the down command as soon as he got to the top but the main referee did not make him hold it, the jury can step in and overturn the lift if he has at least one red light. This the in the IPF rulebook, but in something like WRPF, you only need to lock it out. No holding and demonstration of lockout control is required for a good lift, mainly due to whippy deadlift bars
@@AsyaChakarova also, the one to give him the white light was the central referee...so the one giving the commands. Anyway, watching the lift I too had the impression that the bar was slipping before he could even get the command (basically he reached the lockout but he was never in control at the top).
I do think that jesus will his WR again, maybe not next year but soon You can‘t forget that his girlfriend gave birth a few weeks ago before sheffield and I think that messed up his prep with a lot of sleeples nights. He also talked about his lack of sleep on his youtube videos a little bit His bw is down a bit but I don‘t think that has that of a tremendous impact like you thought it had on his performance this year, he is still at almost 400lbs, 10lbs off or on that won‘t make much of a difference imo But you said it correctly if he wants to break his WR again he has to get his Grip on point Other than that great video and great takes
Thank you! Yeah that definitely sounds like a big factor then. Would love to see him keep pushing the WR, especially since he doesn't really have any head to head competition.
Russ had went on white lights pod and had admitted it was slipping saying it was a 50/50 call and that’s y he didn’t celebrate. I think he was putting bar down as he was getting the down command, nonetheless incredible lift and wish it was ruled good as a fan myself but he will definitely be back for it
It can't just be me who thinks Russ's squats all looked high? Camera angles are deceptive, and the judges all thought they were in, which is all that matters. Still though...
They looked fine to me but i think proper side cameras should definitely be a thing. It is so frustrating not nowing wheter something can or cannot be overturned when the rules for depth are so simple. There is no reason for it to not be a yer or no situation.
Matt Gary has talked about the fact that when he coached Ray Williams, Ray had issues with his hands ballooning up every time he squatted north of 455KG, Jesus must be running into the same problem that big squat must be sending his blood pressure through the roof.
Definitely a possibility, can't forget his training total leading into Sheffield being 750-760. Thing is though if you're looking at training totals at a higher bw you have to look at Kjell's 800+ ones lol so either way he's pretty far out in front
I mean the whole point is to brake records, so it wouldn’t be so entertaining and I think it’s kind of fun when for example Kjell dropped to 66 to have a better chance of winning, and also dot score isn’t really so fair
Absolutely not! Going by WR% is much better than dots especially for casual viewers, it's just so much more intuitive for people who aren't necessarily super into powerlifting already (which is kind of SBD's target audience with Sheffield). And yes agree with @hugoharning3016 dots scores aren't perfect either, remember all the USAPL pro series meets that were scored on dots? Yeah neither does anyone cos no one cared lol.
Also regarding a "worse" lifter dropping down to a less contested class, that's only half of what Kjell did to win Sheffield... Keep an eye out for my next video cos this is exactly what I'll be discussing!
What were they using to rank? Definitely not DOTs anymore right. Also, I dont know if i agree that Jesus will never break his WR. He's only 24, and has plenty of time to lock in.
True Daniel Clements did 745.5, super strong guy. But that was as a 67.5 in usapl, his most recent meet at 66 was 717.5, only 2.5 ahead of Kasemsand. He could get back to that peak strength at 66 but he hasn't done so yet...
@ i dont care neither hater or fan. But he admitted on the interview that it clearly was slipping and that he wouldnt give himself a white light either
Pana is gone. Out. forever. there's no class he can be competitive in. 74s? he's not gonna add 50+ kg on his squat. he may get to a190-200 bench and a 320 deadlift (maybe). Jesus? we may have seen his peak. no 500kg squat from him. he will continue to lose grip on deadlift and he may never lift over 900 in comp. Perk is gonna be the top dawg in the 74s for a while until Borenstein does a Kjell and drops down to the 74s again and totals 900kg (this will happen in 2029, the same year Ray Kurzweil predicts AI will reach human level intelligence).
I mean I still think he'd be a strong podium threat as a filled out 74, hard to see him winning any more Worlds titles though. Haha love the bold prediction, time will tell...
He wasn't before Sheffield when he out-totalled Russ and he sure as hell isn't now that Russ reclaimed the biggest 83 total. Needs to do it head to head and/or hit that crazy 900 on the platform. Definitely only seems like a matter of time though
Sumo doesn't matter nearly as much as you think it does. Russ came first pulling conventional. Lya Bavoil and Pana both choose to pull conventional despite their opponents pulling sumo, I promise you if they were stronger with sumo they'd use it. Sumo argument is so outdated
"a man can only grind for so long" in reference to Pana is diabolical work. Great video man
Haha thanks man!

It can't just be me who thinks Russ's squats all looked high? Camera angles are deceptive, and the judges all thought they were in, which is all that matters. Still though...
Need the side angles
Looked fine to me, always hard to judge depth on someone with such big legs like Russ
Not all, I say his Opener was solid!
Honestly, I thought a lot of the squats looked high. It mightve just been the horrible TV angle. I thought russ third was borderline though.
They looked fine to me but i think proper side cameras should definitely be a thing. It is so frustrating not nowing wheter something can or cannot be overturned when the rules for depth are so simple. There is no reason for it to not be a yer or no situation.
Pana desperately needs to move up tbh
I love pana but he would be absolutely no match to Perk. But then again no one except Kjell will win -66 for a good 5 years. Bad place to be for pana
pana needs to move up but it’ll be a long time before he challenges perk or even kjells 812.5
I agree he should move up, but yeah being stuck between Kjell and Perk it's gonna be real tough either way
Check the Russ video on the front and see why it is not a good attempt, although he gives a great performance.

It’s sad because if Pana moves up to 74kg, he’s not even close to Austin Perkins level
True but if he stays he's not much closer to Kjell... Pick your poison I guess
