Now this is how I remember the people from Gary, when I lived there!!

I remember as a kid at Pulaski we used to run out the door at school to Mr. Charlie’s . I remember he used to hide us so we wouldn’t get in trouble because we wasn’t supposed to leave off school grounds. He was a wonderful man and that’s was a wonderful place to be when we were growing up in Gary Indiana. I love you Mr. Charlie and thank you for all that you done for us Rest in Heaven.
Charlie's!!! Used to go every Sunday between Sunday school and morning service to stock up on penny candy (Chews) and the cookies or stockings when I got a run in mine!!! Went to New Mt. Moriah right around the corner!!! Charlie was very nice to us and knew all the kids by name! Good memories!!! ❤❤❤

That corner store or neighborhood store! Those were the days. It is sad to see when the owners pass and the stores close up, but these old stores were as if time stood still. Awesome memories for those who remember or attended that school.
Every day before school, during lunch and/or after school. Thank you for filming such a huge part of my childhood, Mr. Charlie seemed to be the same old man from the first time I saw him to the last. I wonder when he passed away? My dear Pulaski...Lord, my heart breaks but smiles at the same time.
I hear that. I remember my corner / candy store, it’s true it’s like the owner never changed or aged. It was just same ol person like a character in a cartoon!!!!

Wow....used to get candy from there after school and would sneak during lunch for Now and Laters, those Watermelon and Apple stick candies, and penny candy chews too!
Uncle Charlie's... I spent a many days in there...pickles,the best strawberry and lemon cookies..penny candy...went to pulaski an was a band member...#mrphillips... 84-85...& went to Williams elementary I love my city...#forevergary..11th ave.. check out the parks over there.. Carolina Park . Too many to name
You taking it back, lol Those cookies were the best, and you would rack up on the penny candy. Remember those chews candies? And I was also a student of Mr. Phillips as well, lol. God, time has literally flown by!
Glen Park had its share of great candy storms when I was a kid,Chnupa's on 35th and Broadway, Rzad's on 35th and Delaware, Rocici's on 36th and Delaware and Sylvia's on 37th and Georgia, we used to buy candy and RC cola in the bottle when you can scratch the cork off the bottle top and win money, great memories of these stores when Gary was Gary, thanks Storm, keep shooting videos.
I guess nothing is made to last forever. In my memories of childhood Charlie's will always be open. Awesome video Storm! Thankyou for sharing it
So many memories there. I miss Dunbar Pulaski too a bit. That candy store is right across from the band room at Dunbar Pulaski. Mr. Philipps always had the #1 middle school band in Gary.

Omg. When I was very young and attended nursery school down the street called "ELKA" . The teachers would walk us up to the candy store in the afternoons sometimes to buy treats. Wow.
All the mom & pop stores are gone now replaced by a faceless corporate entity. Its a bummer
Mr. Storm it’s a cool memory. I never went there and my memory of a candy store even though I didn’t live in Chesterton but I remember the Benjamin Franklin store and getting candy there as a kid.
I USE TO LOVED TO GO TO CHARLIE'S AFTER CHURCH AND GET A PURSE FULL OF CANDY!!! HE WAS SOOOOO NICE TO ME AND MY COUSINS!!
There used to be a candy store on Ridge Road right across the street from St. Mark Church and School.
The owner was a grouchy old woman who hated us kids who came by during lunch and after school.
She definitely was NO Charlie!
Shobach's store, she hated kids.
We would get all our snacks there Every Morning before we went to school at Pulaski. One of the best Jr High Schools in America. Well in our Time is was an amazing School. Graduated in 1994 and moved to Chicago right before Gary turned into the M Capital in 95

I have been thinking of making a Business in investment. My wife keeps telling me about Gary . Lived in nwi Indiana . I see what she says even she though not from nwi . Seen your channel amazes me inside some of the property. And it’s cool how the neighbors ask what your intentions are . Sounds like some people needs a spark .
