- Luis survived a motorcycle crash that left him unresponsive for months. Just when all hope seemed lost, he opened his eyes and said to his wife “I love you.” Six years later Luis is still learning to walk and talk. I agree. However,I suspect (but obviously cannot be sure) that if I was him I'd say to my wife something like "look,I love you so much that I want you to leave. You deserve better than this.It's bad enough that I have to endure it but it's inexcusable that *you* should be forced to endure it too".I love you and *because* I love you the way I do I'm divorcing you".

That's great news. Now Luis won't have to be transferred from his wheelchair into the front passenger seat of a regular sedan or a regular SUV. That takes immense amount of strength to do because a quadruplegic is paralyzed below the neck and does not have any feeling and strength in his/her arms or legs.

I've experienced TBI with an immediate family member. I know how incredibly difficult, stressful and straining it is on a marriage. God bless this woman for dealing with the challenges and sticking by her husband. She's been there when he's needed her the most. THAT'S LOVE.

My uncle had a severe brain injury which left him paralysed from the neck down maybe 20 years ago. Miraculously, he has fully healed. He has some stuffles still of course but he has full control of his limbs and body and is able to do everything he uses to do. Moral of the story is that anything is possible and to never give up, everyday is a blessing. Seeing the love this family has for eachother made my day and I wish them all the happiness in the world

Disability does not change a person's heart. They are still deserving of love, appreciation and respect. People who mistreat/neglect/abandon one's who are physically and mentally challenged should understand this.

I like how she talks about love being a decision, and she doesn't skirt around it sometimes being a hard decision, but they both clearly love each other and are dedicated to their life together and with their daughter. Luis has lucked out with his family, and he gives them so much love too. His little girl is growing up amazingly, and she knows how proud her parents are of her.

When the comments were first turned off, I thought of you guys the most. I remember that Luis had been depressed but after reading the original comments, the love that was shown to your family helped lift his spirit up. And then the community helped raise money for the van. And now I watch your own channel. Your family is fully of love, respect, laughter and hope. Sooooo happy that we are able to tell your family that you are special!!!!

This hits close to home cause when i was 15 my mom fell ill and had severe brain damage. My dad never treated her any different. Unfortunately she never made it home, but for that whole year my dad never thought hed do any different than stand by her side. Im happy this man still has his wife and child.
I have a cousin who crashed his motorcycle, but he wasnt wearing a helmet and he suffered a brain injury as well and was in a coma for 6 months. That was about 20 years ago, and he has speech issues (not sure about cognitive) but I have never known him any differently. Its interesting to see another person in a similar situation because it doesnt seem so rare. Obviously its sad that these things happen but its beautiful to be able to share a similar experience
It's so hard to see how his daughter is struggling with communicating with her dad, how desperate she is, how close to bursting in tears😢 but still keeps on trying and reassuring herself that her dad loves her❤
100% loyality. A beautyful strong family. I hope in your country you will get also support. In germany you can get a assistant for 24 hours a day, every day. That kind of support help the family to life a normal live.

This man is so loving and grateful for his wife and child! He's devoted completely to them. His wife and daughter are also beautiful caring individuals. His wife is a jewel inside and out. As a society we should see this family as role models for a loving family! I hope they are enjoying the van.
It's good to see his daughter has adjusted well, my dad had a car accident when I was about 1 and ended up with a similar sort of paraplegia and speech difficulty as a result of 6mo of intubation/trach while in a coma. The Durham exchange club in NC had a great group of people, he was able to have something to do - they gave him a job where he operated a mail sorting machine that he could do with his one good arm from his wheel chair. Having something that gives someone back even small parts of functionality to allow them to complete tasks and do something, is a really, really, big deal. I'm glad he was able to get the van

I have a TBI from a car accident and I will say that this video really showed me how lucky I am to be able to walk and talk. I have issues from it, but it's mostly mood/anger and memory problems and sometimes I flip out and yell at work and I feel so embarrassed later when I calm down and it feels like I am so unlucky to have to deal with this, but I know im actually super lucky to still be able to work full time and take care of myself. Im so happy that Luis has such a supportive family. His wife is a saint.❤
i had a very transformative experience a couple months ago because of my disability & left the hospital the following morning with some words you may find helpful: “no good/bad, only closer/farther”.
you and luis are equally as lucky, only difference is that the body you emerged your accident with is more compatible with our society’s usual way of doing things. not saying this to chide you or make you feel poorly- only want to let you know that we humans are a tool building species (: just that the toolbox you’ve building up post injury isn’t visible to people. it’s a WIP and you have nothing to be ashamed of.
i’ve had my fair share of automotive traumas and am glad to hear you’re on your way up out of a dark place-i know how it is. you deserve being patient with yourself. 🖤

yea I noticed that too. I don't blame her, it's difficult and she still has so much life ahead of her. I hope they take decisions that is good for BOTH the partners involved without guilt-tripping, especially in the long run. I thought of that line as well, and again when he said what makes him not feel lonely is his wife. I feel both of them have deep seated bittersweet feelings and have sort of become complacent. I hope I'm wrong, and I really hope some day we get to a point of being able to repair this extent of brain damage.
My little brother handicap and yes its a looooooot of work but i wouldnt trade that for anything, when you care about someone enough no matter the challenge you face you tackle them with out thought. and thats what i see here she loves him deeply to the point she cant see her self with out him.
Is it really that difficult to believe that two individuals can create & feel a love for each other that could surpass a life challenge such as this one? I don’t feel an ounce of pity for them. They have a love that most only dream about! I also most definitely do not believe that she is still with Luis only because she or they’ve grown “complacent”. She says it herself, when she says that in her eyes Luis isn’t any different than before his accident. Most might see this as diluted thinking or find it impossible to believe that those could be her true feelings, but if you’re one of the few that has been blessed with finding that other person who completes them, makes up their other half, with whom they were meant to travel through this journey we call life, then you know that there is absolutely & without a doubt nothing wrong with her feelings towards her husband. There isn’t a situation that I can conjure up in which I would abandon my partner or “throw in the towel” & walk away from him! I would be lost without him and him without me because we complete one another! I know this sounds cheesy & sappy & all that jazz, but that still doesn’t change the fact that we both felt something otherworldly when we met. Twenty years, 4 kids, so much life lived & even more love given makes both of us fervent believers in “love at first sight” & “soulmates”. Their love is the real deal. No doubt. You can’t recognize it unless you’ve been lucky enough to experience it…

I once cared for an autistic man by the name of 'bahu' in honolulu. He was in his 40s, can't talk cos he still had the brain of a 2 year old. He was physically normal and he loved the playground and beach. His dad looked after him full time. I helped out on days when he called.
Bahu is a special person. I never forget his dad's dedication to raise him into adulthood. And bahu was a joy to be with.
I lost contact with them when I moved to another country. If u can track them down, that would be great. They have an incredible story.

You can say that the daughter is a very loving person, but you can not say that she is an angel, because angels are not human beings and never have been. They are spiritual beings created by The Most High, and bear no resemblance to human beings, while we are created in His image of flesh and bone.
