One thing I always remember about visiting Iraqi Kurdistan, is when you sat down to eat, they gave you like 12 plates of different stuff just like this. On the spot!
HOW does this video only have 4.5k views???? ive been watching on-scene documentary-type content like this since 2009 on UA-cam, and this is some of the best. this channel absolutely deserves more attention.
Fellow Canadian backpacker here, a short video on the process of getting legal access to a country like Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, etc. would be very interesting and helpful! Amazing and inspiring videos, and I love the “real life” style of filming
That is not the type of content I create, but that being said: 1. Iraq now has Visa on arrival 2. Afghanistan you can apply for a Visa in person in Pakistan and get approved within 10 minutes (Pakistan has an online e-visa). 3. Syria - I can let you know the details once I'm inside (in about a week). Hope that helps! Chris
@@Ytbz03 I had a guide (travel agency) meet me at the land boarder, I paid the $90 USD and I was in. You currently need a guide to get into Syria, it is 100% required to get visa.
Chris, I spent time in several of Saddam’s palaces while in the US military. We were told by our local Iraqi workers that stone was not marble, but actually a marble like stone that came from another region of Iraq and was a lot cheaper. Either way, they were very nice looking.
Hallo, Chris, Just remembered, I am Iraqi Jewish woman. But as a result of painful part in history...In 1951, Jews were expelled from Iraq, so I ended as a refugee, in Israel... I do not have Iraqi passport and can't visit Iraq. Still, Iraqi food I Iike and often cook and bake Iraqi traditional dishes. Thank you for for this video, showing ancient Babilon. 🌴🙏
I met one of the relatives of former Vice President Of Iraq Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri living here in America. He taught me a lot about his culture, and how he ended up over in USA. I must admit it was fascinating to learn what really happen over there during the war. He changed his 1st name to a more American name, but did keep his surname Al-Douri. He told me a lot about his uncle Izzat. I hope one day I can get my channel going here on UA-cam, because I have met a lot of interesting people😳. It’s almost like having a “Forrest Gump moment”
Hi sir, as far as I know back in the era of Saddam Iraq was in its best times and there were no poverty and unemployment, all of that started right after he was taken away
Tell that to the families where their loved ones were killed by Saddam. Look when I was in Iraq I asked everyone, and half loved Saddam and half hated the man and his government.
Chris - just discovered your videos - and they are fantastic! Great personality, great editing, etc., etc. QUESTION - what was the name of the restaurant in Baghdad where you had the chicken dinner at the end of this video? I'm going to Iraq, including of course Baghdad, in October, and I'd like to add that restaurant to my Google Maps. Thank you, Jeff
Verbally voicing your negative opinion about Saddam when he was the leader would be an instant death penalty. I've asked this question to every Iraqi I met this week, and everyone hated the man.
History's version says otherwise: 'Although some Iraqis welcomed U.S. troops, the reception was mixed at best. The notion of a Western army occupying an Arab land summoned up humiliating memories of colonialism, as well as fears regarding underlying U.S. intentions. Before long a growing insurgency took hold, which has led to more than 4 years of violence.' It took us 7 more years to leave and what you see today is the mess we left behind. How much was lunch?
@@joecambodia1326 I agree with your statement, most people that I spoke to didn't want the US to be there at all. I think it was around $12 USD, and well worth it!
I like that babylon gate, wasn't aware anything besides ruins still exist from those days, the great city of babylon from the bible, crazy shit, that was cool, see how thick those walls were? damn. Just looked it up, apparently it's a replica but still cool "Ishtar gate" sounds evil. Baal Ishtar and Moloch are the unholy trinity from hell.
My greetings to you from the ancient city of Babylon. I would like to show you that Ishtar Gate. It was seized by a German prospector and transported to Germany and is now in a museum in Berlin. Affection
@@علاءالحمداني-ح4ط yeah that's crazy, they smuggled it out piece by piece and then put it back together. they've done the same with other things over time.
sad fact, that Babylonian blue gate is not the real one and the real one is much bigger than that fake one and even more pretty, it was stolen by germany so the iraqis had to make some sort of another gate
I enjoy all your videos . To start I a am proud Assyrian living in the US. You guide did not have the information regarding Babylon. Assyria was an ancient Kingdom of Northern Mesopotamia centered on the cities of Ashur and Nineveh. Babylon was an ancient city which ruled over southern Mesopotamia. Ancient Assyrians were inhabitants of one the world's earliest civilizations, Mesopotamia, which began to emerge around 3500 b.c. The Assyrians invented the world's first written language and the 360-degree circle, established Hammurabi's code of law. Nebuchadnezzar II was born circa 630 BCE in the Chaldea region of Babylon. At the time of his birth, Babylon was still under Assyrian rule. It was originally built by King Nebuchadnezzar II. The Ishtar Gate, named after a Mesopotamian goddess of love and war, was one of eight gateways that provided entry to the inner city of Babylon during the reign of Nebuchadnezzar II (reign 605-562 B.C.). You or may not have been informed.
