This is because of Cinco de Mayo (5th of May) a Mexican celebration that Americans use as an excuse to drink a lot of (mostly) Mexican alcohol. So it's the Revenge of the 6th because of hangovers. Also, because Star Wars is mostly trilogies it works well: May the 4th be with you, Return of the 5th, and Revenge of the 6th.

No matter how many years it's been, after growing up as a kid in private school with a bunch of Star Wars fans as friends, this reflexive response permanently lives in my brain.
@@miratparmar6779 So, there is a liturgical preface to the divine service that's a call and response between the pastor and the congregation. Technically I think this joke actually comes out of the one more commonly used in Lutheranism rather than Catholicism (I grew up going to a Lutheran private school as a kid and we naturally all just started making this joke), but it is as follows:
• Pastor: The Lord be with you.
• People: And also with you.
• Pastor: Lift up your hearts.
• People: We lift them up to the Lord.
• Pastor: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
• People: It is right to give him thanks and praise.
So, the wordplay of, _"May the Force be with you."_ and the engrained reflexive response of, _"And also with you."_ just comes naturally to anyone who grew up in a Christian denomination that uses that particular version of the liturgical preface for the divine service.

I mean, if you’re not super good with a language, it can be difficult to pick up wordplay in it… Like there are many puns in Japanese that would completely fly over my head… Even if she were a fan of English puns, I expect the language barrier could still be an issue.
It's a funny if consider how Japanese fandoms love to mark days based on wordplay. Like - as a Gundam fan - March 9th slightly resembles the word Zaku in Japanese, so it's Zaku day. May 4th is the only similar day I can think of in the West.
And May 9th is Goku day in Japan for the same reason. 5=go (even though it should be king Piccolo day)
March 10th is considered Mario Day, since it can be shortened to "Mar10"
It’s a lot easier to do in Japanese - the language has fewer sounds and more restrictive sound combination rules, which leads to more homophones. That plus the fact that most numbers have at least three ways to pronounce them (i.e. 2 = ni/futa/tsuu) makes it easier to fit numbers to words.

In fairness, it’s a pun in English, so unless you are fluent, it could be missed.
And even then, unless someone says “May the Fourth be with you” with emphasis on “fourth”, your brain might just hear it as Force and not make the connection.

For the unaware, in Japanese months don't have unique names like we in the west do. Though our months were meant to be numbered to some degree, such as October and December. For example, gogatsu is May, and "go" in this context is literally just the number 5.
Glad to know some ppl out there still enjoy Star Wars. All the modern stuff has been god awful, essentially cringe fanfictions, completely ruining it for me. Nice to someone can still enjoy it.
I can understand someone not understanding WHY Star Wars day falls on May 4th when their first language isn't English because the names of the months are completely different and unless you SAY May the 4th out loud it makes no sense.
There are two types of people in this world
1. people who know may the 4th and love star wars
2. people born on may the 4th and are sick of star wars
The funny part is that the pun is stronger in Japanese because _fourth_ and _force_ is pronounced the same way in Japanese フォース (foosu).

it helps that some of the movies also premiered on that day. i remember Episode III being advertised all throughout spring on Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network with May 4, 2005 being the date to remember if we wanted to beg out parents to go see it.
