- Meal plan below ⬇️ Weekly grocery haul for our family of 13 in NYC. Sorry I'm getting over a cold so I sound a little under the weather :) We shop at Costco & Trader Joe's on Tuesday evening. (Our Costco is in Harlem and our Trader Joe's is on the Upper West Side in Manhattan.) We bring Anna (12), Chloe (10), Enoch (7), Melody (5), Moses (2) and Neta (6 months).
Here is our meal plan:
Wednesday: Chilaquiles, Dinner: Split Pea Soup & Parmesan Croutons
Thursday (4th of July): Hot Dogs, Corn on the cob, Potato Salad, Watermelon, Cake & Root Beer Floats
Friday: Baked Potatoes w/ bacon Dinner: Salmon, Beets, Orzo, Creme Fraiche, Arugula
Saturday: Rotisserie Chicken & Provolone Sandwiches w/ Avocado Dinner: Burritos
Sunday: Spaghetti & Meatballs w/ Baguette, Dinner: Nachos w/ cheese & meat
Monday: Tuna Pitas, Dinner: Minestrone Soup w/ baguette
Tuesday: Beans & Rice Dinner: Take Out + Rotisserie chicken

The hot dog buns you bought are called New England rolls ,if you put butter on the sides and toast it on the grill it’s amazing. I love that you don't go crazy with the organic/ healthy and let them have Reeses Puffs, etc. So balanced. It will keep them from going crazy over stuff they never had when they are older. Wise.

Use the rotisserie chicken pulled off the bone for bbq chicken sandwiches- chicken for chicken pot pie , chicken Alfredo - those chickens sometimes are cheaper then buying chicken plus its already cooked for lunches

I am 10:49 in. First I have to say that you and your husband have done wonderful job with your children. The older kids are very responsible and seem to understand what their roles are. Every one of your kids are all well behaved out in public. First time viewer but one thought that came to mind is if you share your parenting methods.

I love those Wyman’s cherries! 🍒 I like to make my own pie filling because there’s so much garbage in the ones that you buy out of the can. Chloe looks like she’s walking so much easier! I pray that you feel well soon, and hope you guys are having a wonderful Fourth of July!

Did you know you can make buttermilk using 1 tablespoon lemon juice or vinegar and then add one cup of milk and let stand for 5 minutes? I make a cake that calls for buttermilk and use this substitution and it works perfectly.

Costco have a big plastic tub of spinach that would suit your families needs especially if you use some in smoothies

@@TheHappyCaravan you can steam them or sauté them in olive oil and garlic! It’s like a spinach or Swiss chard! Delicious!
Be watchful of the Gerber and Beechnut, the ingredients are not the cleanest, also often added sugar. Earth Best, or Ellas Kitchen are favoured mine. Also making your own food is best, just whacking fresh stuff in the processor. Mind you having said that, fed is best!!! 😉

I checked out the kombucha or something like that that y’all buy at Costco. I was thinking about getting some, but it had sugar in it so I didn’t. I do not do sugar at all so I wasn’t able to get any.😢
Look into making your own jun tea. It is like kombucha but made with green tea and honey rather than black tea and sugar.
Didn’t think of that what mark did by taking all the leafs off the beets , that way you just pay for beets I’m doing that next time for sure

Hi sweet Amber another grocery haul for this crue of thirteen Aww Amber you need to gargle with just cool salt 🧂water and take a teaspoon of honey for you throat. It will help. If your throat is really sore gargle with once of listerine for 3- 5 seconds or as long as you can tolerate it it will burn a little do to the alcohol but it will help. I do this when I'm sick in 2 day my sore throat is gone. Try it It will help. HOPE YOU FEEL better soon Amber. They do get a bit melty but they freeze up again pretty quickly.
Bring an insulated/cooler bag for your frozen items.

Next time don’t toss the beet greens, they are delicious and so good for you! I sauté them in garlic and olive oil or add them to soups.

We can’t find unbleached flour at our Costco unfortunately. And we do buy toothpaste and shampoo at Costco. There are no herbs at our Costco but that would be nice.

Even if she bought it.. it’s really wise to give kids money and if they want to buy muffins or other things, it’s a great lesson to learn the value of money and what you can get for it.. and so sweet if they share. I don’t see why it’s bad.
