I think this was one of the first videos I looked at in an effort to find a quick clip answer to tails...good one!!!
Found these at my local China-Mart that used to be owned by a guy named Sam, before it became C-M.
Haven't had the chance to use them yet, but I'm converting what I can until then!
Just ordered from Amazon a bag of trot line clips, a bag of split rings and a pair of split ring pliers. Looks like a good solution to something that has been nagging me. Thanks !!
Boy Glenn, I am just stumbling across all sorts of great information, and simple stuff I probably should have thought of myself, but didn't. I'm really glad I found your channel.
You are most welcome, Ken. The 10% discount from member merchants for American KiteFlyers Association members is another good tip.
Useful tips. Would love to see a video explaining how to stack single line kites such as the manta rays. I'm struggling with this at the moment.
I will have them in the wind at WSIKF. That would be the best time for the tutorial on a stack.
Hello Glenn, I've never seen the sort of clip you show us here. The use of these seems really very easy. I normally use short line loops and larks head or Prusik knots to fix smaller laundry or tails. But this trotline clip really looks interesting. I will have to search some fishing stores especially for this item. Good tutorial, Glenn, thanks for that!
Amazon.com if you can not get them locally. I enjoyed your Fano videos. Lucky fellow, are you😁😁😁
glenn mitchell Glenn, I found these clips on Amazon, but approximately USD 250,- for a bag of the clips is not what I want to pay for. In local stores I find all sort of different clips for any possible purpose in fishing, but not the trotline clips. That is of course no real problem since there are several ways to attach things to kites and their lines.
michael22846 Magicbait trotline clips at about 13 dollars USA, is what I use, Michael.
Very good information video. Thanks
no loop on the end of my kite
used a large plastic paper clip, and cut with pliers to give a u shaped clip
that I super glued into the hollow plastic tube the kite is made with.
sure,
I attached a key ring to the paper clip
and made a tail from an old red t-shirt...
next flight
I'll run the end of the tail thru the key ring
and tie it
and see what happens.
I bought some cheap kites at the Dollar store
and they like to spin and dive -
hoping the tail will tame them down :-)
lw216316 Good idea. Consider also using hardware store flagging tape in single or multiple strips. Long strips! These strip tails can be folded in half and tied together with more flagging tape. Long tails of this cheap material can be stuffed in a plastic shopping bag when done. They can be used over again. I you use a cloth tail, consider tying cloth bows on the tail. This allows you to shorten the tail length while increasing drag.
thanks,
I cut the shirt in half a dozen strips
and tied them together with the idea
to experiment with how many to use,
maybe the knots will function like bows?
I'm an RC airplane pilot
and I just started exploring kites
to fill in when its too windy to fly
I bought a cheap Gala delta at the hobby store ... it flies pretty good but likes to get directly overhead - hard to watch -
maybe the tail will keep it at a lower angle.
Great tips! Fishing clips are hard on the fingers after a certain age. I use little loops of sturdy kite line to connect everything. I just attach everything with larkshead knots. I find that best for me. I look forward to each of your vids with anticipation. Keep them coming.
