On January 26,The Great One will turn 60.I met him and his wife here in Los Angeles. He never turned a fan away!He is the best ever to skate over the ice.It looked always so easy.Happy Birthday,Wayne Gretzky,No.99.Of course in Edmonton,Canada they are specially proud of you.
I know he didn’t play very long but for the short time he did play, no one was better overall than Bobby Orr!
When people play at different times its hard to compare. But Wayne Gretzky for many is the best ever who skated the ice.My relatives in Edmonton/Canada would agree.
@@stefantreff4706 According to most people who KNOW THEIR HOCKEY, there have been 3 other players who were as good, if not better than Gretzky: Orr, Howe and Lemieux. Unlike Orr who had his career cut short after only 9 years and Lemieux who missed games (sometimes many) literally every year during his career, Gretzky had a full 20 year career, with injuries and missed games like everyone else yes, but essentially, it didn't keep him from fulfilling his potential. Unlike Howe whose prime occurred in the original 6 days when nobody scored 100 pts a year and Orr whose career rarely saw any non-Bruins scoring 100 pts, Gretzky's career saw about twelve 100 pt scorers a year most years during his career. He was great yes, but was surrounded by the right circumstances.
This one still hurts today, love the great one but a Toronto Montreal final would have been epic
That happened the week after the infamous "I'm sorry, we're closed!" line was said on TV.
@@bobsmith962 Probably, but the crowd in Toronto is like a 6th player on the ice. Fans in Montreal know that better than anyone. It would have been way more pressure to try and win in Toronto than in LA where the fans didn't even know what they were watching back then.
I remember watching that game like it was yesterday. I was 15 years old. Damn, getting old sucks! 😂
Please make a LAST DANCE like documentary for the Oilers.
They did!! It was called The Boys on the Bus, which chronicled the the loss to the Flames in '86 to winning the Cup against the Flyers in '87.
The missed high-stick on Gilmour was in Game 6 of the series, NOT Game 7.
Gretzky had stated years ago that his best game was 87 CANADA CUP game 2 finals Gretzky 5 assists, Lemieux 3 goals against RUSSIA watch it on hear and You'll see
my childhood idol :)
I didn't know Toronto used to be in Western Conference
At the time (1992-93) it was called the Campbell Conference. The renaming of the Eastern (Prince of Wales Conference) & the Western (Clarence Campbell Conference), which funny enough, was an idea Gretzky himself had actually recommended in 1989-90 in his autobiography "Gretzky", didn't come along until the season after this, 1993-94. The Leafs were placed in the Eastern Conference before the start of the 1998-99 season, which coincidentally was the Great One's final NHL season.
My next door neighbor is a massive LA Kings fan. He was in MLG for Game 7 wearing a Kings jersey. Leaving the arena he was showered in beer. He's a great guy but I'd do that to him too
yeah that guard did cost them the game. the great one is just to polite to say it like is.
1:00 LMAO Perfect.
His greatest game should of never happened... *cough cough high stick in game 6 cough cough*
please people watch Argentina vs england it wasnt a high stick it was the stick of god
Absolument.. j appuis!
Yeah the game that should never have happened.....keep your stick on the ice....
No mention of the no call.. I love Gretzky, even as a Leaf fan, but he should have been in the penalty box instead of on the ice for the game winner
Gretzky could definitely trash talk 😂
Kid from down the street. Beats the home town team. Makes no freakin sense . I hate the business of sports. It should be like old times when you played for your home town team. The fact the greatest player of the game came home and beat his home town team makes it sting even worse. Should have not even been in the game when he scored in game 6.
But his home town team wasn't his favorite team.
Every Gretzky fan knows the Red Wings were his favorite team.
@@andrehall23 even Gretzky stated the Gordie Howe was the best there ever was.
So the douchebag cop lit a fire under Gretzky and cost Leafs Nation lol
Yeah but, he got away with a 5-minute major for cutting Gilmour. He forgets that. It was really the difference in the game.....in a playoff year that highsticking was enforced for everybody else.
Regardless of the non-call it's still the team's responsibility to come out and play well. Great teams play against the adversity and conquer it, including bad penalties and when a player should have been suspended. The Leafs just weren't good enough.
That goal off the guy’s skate had to be luck.
I thought that first time I saw it, but where is that pass going if it got through? Gretzky is not one to chuck it aimlessly, it must be intentional.
Stopped respecting Gretzky after he started (years ago) saying that this Game 7 vs. the Leafs was his best ever. And not because of the game 6 high stick. Gilmour and Clark outplayed Gretz by far in the '93 playoffs as a whole, and had better individual games compared to Gretzky's Game 7.
Gretzky could have picked so so many other games to call his best, but instead he goes with this one because a) he hates playing second fiddle and b) he enjoys rubbing the Leaf loss in. He knows Clark and especially Gilmour were better - and this is his way of saying, "not so fast, remember.. I"M Wayne Gretzky and l'M the best."
Btw Gretzky... Lemieux and Orr were better.
Yeah Lemieux and Orr are BETTER but Gretzky is still the greatest based on his accomplishments
I don't agree that Lemieux and Orr were better. Orr especially, as he benefited GREATLY from a watered down league (literally half the teams in Orr's era were garbage. He came in at the perfect time yet still only managed 2 Cups). But I do agree this is a weird game for Gretzky to call "his best ever". A great game, but I've seen better performances from Gretzky in the playoffs than this one.
I'd like to also say the Leafs in the 90s had some GREAT teams that just came up short, but could have easily won the Cup or at the very least, made the Final. Gilmour was a beast in 93. Even with Gretzky's Game 7, Leafs almost came back to tie it late. I think it's very possible Leafs win Game 6 if Gretzky is called for high sticking. But karma came for the Kings with the McSorely illegal stick in the Final against Montreal.
@@Quellebreo373 yea couldnt agree more mario had 1751 points in only 915 games gretzky only had almost 1400 in the same amount of games.... actually he had 1400 assists sorry typo
First view
Maybe, just didn’t bother commenting, I saw it in the first few seconds and there were no comments and no views
Title should say greatest *NHL* game.
His greatest game, according to him, is Game 2 of the 1987 Canada Cup Final.
