What bugs me about these types of conversations is the both sides-ism. Far left fascistic populism does not hold sway in the Democrat party, especially at the leadership level. Anti-semitism is confined primarily to decentralized fringe groups, mainly on college campuses. Meanwhile, Trump and other Republican leaders keep company with and provide cover for known anti-semites and white nationalists. In fact, the Republican Party has veered so far to the right that Conservatives like Liz Cheney are voting D. Imagine if the D party tacked so far left that AOC was like “guess I gotta vote R now.”
Jonah says that there’s just as much victimization on the Right as on the Left. The difference between R & L is that the R Party has elevated and elected as its leader, standard bearer, and nominee for POTUS (for the third time) the biggest self-professed victim of all.

This is just catastrophically stupid. Liz Cheney is a neocon voting for the party that currently caters best to neocons. That is why Dick Cheney supports Democrats. It's why David Frum supports Democrats.
You also have the RFK and Tulsi Gabbard who switched to supporting Trump. These realignments happen because the parties cater to different constituencies at different times, and if your main concern is the health of the defense contractors, then being GOP in the 2010s and then switching to Democrat in the 2020s is exactly what you would expect.

You are right in what you said, but the balance in assessing this situation shifts significantly if you're Jewish, or particularly sympathetic to Judaism, or particularly against Naziism, or even Islam.
The main difficulty of the Middle East situations, for thousands of years now, has typically been that the Abrahamic religions have certain grand and essential, worldly, ethnic, and territorial interests, which go beyond rational argument at a certain point, and reside in pure sentiment, faith, and familiarity.

I think it’s really hard to look at Israel and its modern history and not be struck by their very unbalanced treatment of the Palestinians. You can’t keep associating them with Hamas, because it wasn’t always there. It’s hard to argue that Hamas isn’t a product of this relationship. And to point this out isn’t being anti-semitic, it’s being critical. His other exaggeration is his obsession with the far left, because it’s a small reactionary group and simply doesn’t compare to the far right phenomena. You can’t compare caring too much of the left with fascism and the constant endemic purposeful disruption and lying on the right.

The book America Last offers an illustration of how none of this is really that new. But certainly social media today is a type of accelerant. I kind of view what’s happening on the right today as a reaction to dealing with all their failed policies and tropes that have been largely invalidated by a new world. Things like “wars for freedom”, “shopping for healthcare”, “deregulated markets”, “deregulated global trade”, “trickle down economics”, “government deficits will ruin us”, and maybe few more I’ve failed to mention, are not totally useless notions, but their failures have thrown the right’s political compass into a tailspin. Throughout history, conservative minded people do not simply throw their hands up and join the progressives when their ideas have been proven wrong.

Take the word, Jew or Jews out of this conversation and talk about a nation surrounded by potential enemies and ask yourself why are the enemies and why can this not be resolved if you cannot come back to at least one of the sticking points being that there is a population of people cotton limbo with nowhere to go and no rights no freedoms no guarantees of Liberty, you can pretty much guarantee that you end up with Americans who would say this is wrong not wanting to agree with us not wanting to agree with terrorism not even wanting to condone it, but if you can’t be honest and look at the fact that Israel has put itself in a position where it makes its own enemies Then you’re being disingenuous to the entire conversation . I’m a native American and I am all for Israel defending itself but at the same time, I also see why Hamas exist and I see how it’s able to recruit and I see that it’s not going away no matter how many you when people are left feeling hopeless and aimless go to any level they truly understand the concept of what have I got to lose?

"Democracy" holds the same status in modern society as the Bible had/has for religiously oriented people. It is sacred. It may be as empty as a Scandinavian church on a regular Sunday, but it remains inviolable. People have a special inclination for sacred things. It could be a social system or a tree root; it doesn't matter. And language alone seems able to carry this function. I live in a highly secularized country, yet people still use terms that originate from a time of religious thinking and that should have disappeared long ago. In the same way, people will continue to speak of "democracy" as something with an inherently positive meaning long after it has completely collapsed. That's just how people work. There is an inertia built into our conceptual processing of things, and language is the eternal companion of this inertia.

@@avengemybreath3084 How could one be overly concerned about a President that tried to overturn our democracy? If you don't understand that basic fact, start there instead of parroting memes and nicknames.
He assigned fake electors, then instigated a riot to physically stop the election. His staff wrote a 900 page book about how they're going to do it again and fill the government with ideological loyalists instead of civil servants. He openly told a crowd on the campaign trail that if they vote for him once, they won't ever have to vote anymore. He openly praises authoritarians like Xi, Putin, Kim, Orban, and even A.H. Putin brought large wars to conquest back to Europe for the first time since WWII and Trump said Putin should do whatever the hell he wants.
