The Best Way to Fry a Turkey

  • Not only is frying a whole turkey dangerous, but the outside gets overcooked before the inside is tender and the lengthy frying time means the turkey absorbs too much oil. I suggest you break down a turkey into its pieces. Brine the pieces, then dry them out in the refrigerator to ensure extra crispy skin, before simply dipping the turkey in buttermilk and seasoned flour. I guarantee that using this method will give you perfect results every time.

@@jackielowry988 Did you cook it just like he did? My first time trying it, my skin burnt. I brined it in buttermilk, rinsed then fried. I cooked at the same temp he did but, my skin was burnt. It was showing signs of burning well before 20 minutes.

Andrew I've never had fried turkey nor have I ever seen it battered and deep fried like chicken. I'm over here watching at 3:21 am (insomnia sucks lol) looking for turkey recipes and had to click on yours because I love watching you cook and make wonderful food. I most definitely will do this for Christmas dinner. Thanks Andrew you rock!!

This is now my go to way to prepare turkey for holiday feasts. We did a heritage bird for Thanksgiving. I brined the 30 pound bird already cut up, then soaked it in buttermilk and hot sauce for a couple days and fried it according to this method. Never have I ever had better tasting and moist turkey than this. Thanks for sharing, Andrew!

Never had an issue with fried turkey drying out. Inject with Apple Juice and it comes out juicy everytime. No sweetness or acidity either! This maybe an alternative.

He is right, deep frying a whole turkey wastes about 2/3 of it. If you get the breasts done perfectly, the rest of the bird is burnt to unedible leather.

This looks great, but it’s not “fried turkey.” It’s Kentucky Fried Turkey; a totally different thing. Cutting it up is a good idea, though.

Great for fried turkey and waffles, not so much for a Thanksgiving dinner unless you invest in 2 fryers. Tips on frying a whole turkey safely and evenly would have been a worthwhile watch. This felt like, "You're too dumb to be taught anything but McNuggets".
