After years of being slightly self conscious of my natural split I decide to look it up and try to fix it, this actually gave me confidence to keep it as is
Beards are the ultimate accessories for guys! My wife changes how she does her hair almost daily. One cut, dozens of variations. Why let the girls have all the fun? One beards, dozens of variations. Have fun with your beards guys! Pointed handlebar today, French fork tomorrow, on the weekend, let's go for the Viking!
My beard just started forking after a year of growing. It happens mostly when I walk around campus and the wind tosses it around. I don't like it at all!
It totally can be if you kept a short beard early on and trimmed the under lip and chin hairs. Mine grow at one third the rate of my neck and cheek hairs. 3 years later and I'm dealing with a fork that's twice as long as my chin and under lip hairs which are about 6 inches. I should do a massive trim but its daunting when you've come so far.
I naturally have a fork, and was always self conscious about it.. It doesn't help that for some reason I get a LOT of split beard hairs in the center of my beard, which fall out and leave it looking relatively thin and short compared to the forks. I keep it short generally, 12mm or less, to make it less obvious, but now I think I'm going to grow it out!
I think the genetic theory for the French fork might apply to some men, but there's another explanation I found when I grew my yeard (for 15 months). My beard texture is just like Jack's: wiry and kinky. Once it grew long enough to touch my chest, it started to fork. I thought that made no sense, because the wiry texture should lock the hairs together and keep it from splitting. So I started paying close attention to when and how it fell back into a fork after I combed them back together. What I learned was that the hairs would catch on the fabric of my shirt, sort of like Velcro except they didn't actually get stuck there, there was just a tiny bit of friction when they were pulled out. Only a few hairs would do this when I was facing forward because most of my beard protrudes beyond my chest, but whenever I turned my head to the side, I would press one side of my beard against the shirt fabric, causing many more hairs to come into contact. Then when I returned to facing forward the hairs that were caught on that side would be dragged behind, pulling them away from the hairs on the other side. Naturally, the same thing happened on the other side when I turned my head in the other direction. So over time the two sides of my beard were being pulled apart by my shirt. I verified this experimentally by combing out the forks, then just turning my head back and forth. After about 15 cycles, the splitting was clearly reappearing. At the time I wore a lot of knit shirts, a looped fabric that hairs will easily get caught in. Cotton T-shirts are slightly better, but the forks still happen. But when I wore a plain woven cotton shirt, the forking almost completely disappeared.
Thanks bro. I naturally have a French fork too but somebody cut it off in my sleep last night. My yeard progress has been ruined. Thanks for showing historical examples. Back to the growing beard
The option I've used, and seems to work mostly, is twisting the beard with some balm, and then lightly "backcombing" with my fingers. Hard to explain without visuals, but hope it helps!
Natural French Fork here. Didn’t really notice it until one of my coworkers noticed it splitting when I talk. Been trying figure out a solution until I ran across this video. Guess I’ll embrace it.
I love my forked beard. I take advantage of the fork and when I don't want it I just adjust it to be straight down. My fork is very distinct because it's gray where the rest of my bigger is not.
As an Englishman and history fanatic, I must point out that it's William the Conqueror, not Henry. But great video, informative and interesting as ever :D
Awesome jack! I literally asked this question a day or two ago to you and now we have a video! I don’t know if that’s a coincidence or planned but thanks for showing man!
The guy at end has nice mustache. Since i started letting mine cover top lip i have to eat everything with utensils, burgers, sandwiches, wraps. Even cereal with milk is hard - the milk hangs on stashe and then drips onto beard unless i dab it after every spoonful.
I would cut it down to a No.3 guard after yeard that way you don't cut it all off and you'd still have a neat short beard but up to yourself. Good video man
@@Beardbrand lovely, Jack. I used to have a forking beard but that was when i was around 19 years old. 2 years later (now) it's grown out in the middle by itself and voila! No more fork. It also used to be really windswept to the left. It took years of combing to straighten it downwards
Fork beard looks badass. Before i start growing fill beard i roll friendly chops with little fork at the jaw for many years and its very cool style imoo
My beard is also a bit forked, but not so much. It's funny that people usually think that beards come perfectly, but rarely is like that. My dad has an amazing beard, he has a nice stubble with only a day or two without shaving, but he didn't get that look before his mid 30's. Today his beard doesn't fork like mine, but he says that his beard did that when he was younger.
Mine does a strange thing, it forks naturally, but curls out similar to if you were to curl your mustache. Does it completely naturally. I’m mostly Scottish
With the right amount of beard softener and balm I can make my fork less noticeable. But it's a good 12 inches long at this point so it's getting difficult to hide 😅
Hey Jack I’ve been binge watching your Yeard project and it’s inspired me to grow out my beard. I’ve always had a goatee or scruffy goat and now though watching your series I know about beard oil/ balm and so much more I never knew existed for beards. One thing I’ve noticed since having a beard is that even with washing it I get ingrown hairs. Do you have any tips about dealing with them or things I could do not to get them at all?
Mine forks and I don't necessarily like it so I use a band near the bottom of the beard all day. My beard is about 2 inches below my nipples so the band actually looks pretty cool.
I love Your series. 😀 I watch it almost from the begining and I always cant wait to see next week episode. I know now that I'm gonna miss it when it will end... I hope You will make something new 😀 Peace Brother and of course keep on growin' 😀😎😉
I have that problem and it's annoying as hell. I don't have a cleft chin. What I do have is an inch wide or so patch that is simply growing at roughly a third of the speed of the rest. Beard balm becomes your best friend. Not having a daily routine can cause the fork to be more pronounced.
If done right, the fork beard is metal. Started my yeard from being shaven on 04/01/18. Coincidentally, I’m learning how to play metal on the guitar as I’m already a grandmaster dj.
Good video! I was doing a big trim today as the summer comes to an end. The guard falls off, I took a huge chunk out of my chin, luckily it was just hair, it was a good time to start over. Hahahahaha
I have that french fork going on way at the back of my beard at my neckline and it goes on sort of a diagonal line above my adams apple, i'm lucky that it can be combed out and down easily and not at all noticeable because its in the back
I wish there's more to do... Brushing oils bomb I mean depending on your none will really help... I have to constantly shape it threw the day otherwise it splits haha I have the full William split to naturally haha
Yours looks a lot like mine did when I grew it out. I have the fork as well. Yours looks kinda gnarly, man. Mine did too. I trimmed mine down because it looks a lot better short.
Your beard would look awesome Jack if you styled it with a blow dryer and a big Barrell brush. It would straighten the hair and you could round the shape. That's what I do and I get lots of compliments....
I think I caused this due to ignorance because it was so itchy and like an idiot, I used a comb to scratch it! I think I have damaged that area. Will this area regrow?
The Scandinavians also wore forked beards around the same time as the Persians, perhaps even earlier :) Then again, they would have had contact through trade :D
Mine splits so ridiculously bad that I have to literally tug on both sides to make it look fuller with my hands, comb it, apply beard oil, balm, and wax just to keep it in place. And I am not Italian, I am Mexican but have some Italian heritage so I guess that's where it came from.
My goatee naturally forks. I say goatee because that's all I can grow :P I wore a long forked goatee back in high school. I even twisted it sometimes to accentuate that fork. While I don't twist it anymore, I still occasionally enjoy brushing it in a gathered fashion and watching it fork at the end.
Hi Victor, I am italian I dont' undestand perfect english language.. But i am interesting undestand Why much man us me have naturally fork beard.. Do you help me plaese?
After this series is over, I'll shave off my beard and then won't be doing any sort of "challenge" instead focusing on new things to grow the channel. - Jack
I have a bald spot just below my bottom lip, and goes to the bottom of my chin. I've tried different products, grooming and brushing techniques, and it just looks like i have two separate beards. It's more than a fork. It's more like a wishbone, and i don't know what to do at this point. I haven't shaved it in about 19 months, so its got some decent length, but man, the slightest bit of wind separates anything i did, and sends the two halves flying in different directions. help!
I really dislike my fork. Everytime there is a little wind it separates instantly. Gave up and just use bands all day to me it looks better than the split
Jack, I sent Beardbrand an e-mail directed towards you. Subject is "Mesopotamian Beard, Jack Milocco". I hope that helps. So cool that you are considering it.
I’d grew out my goatee long to see how it’s gonna look on me and I didn’t get the fork thing . My goatee just grows straight down and gets very thick. Since I have thick hair
I just don't get how you've grown that beard in less than a year! i have a little less than half of that and i've been growing for about almost two years! and my cheeks are not strong, i have the chin that is connected to the side burns, a very weak mustache that is not connected to my beard. Well, i guess i just have to keep growing and be patient.
I split my beard once as a joke. And. Now. Its fucking permanent. I can not unsplit my beard. Ive had my beard for like 6 years now. And im about to shave it off because of the split

Long or short,
Forked or square;
A beard enhances
A chin that's bare
Be yourself,
Renounce all fashion;
Hide the scissors -
And follow your passion.

no
a fuckin fly came out of this dudes beard. Fly was probably so happy the comb set him free.

Huh didn't know it was a style I thought I was patchy I guess it's natural lmao mine splits real hard
My goatee does this after i gave it a bad trim i hate it so i had to make it shorter just So it gets fixed
I have the same issue, I tried to cut the two sides to a length equal to the centre but then it just forked again fml
At least you are able to keep it and not shave it all off
Mine becomes forked when I run :(
Lol I did the pony tail trick for a while
That would be me on year 4. My beard grows at a rate of 1 cm every month
Seems my beard is naturally growing into a fork style.
Especially when there is wind, my beard completely splits in 2, its kind of annoying
I’m on week 8 of my yeard! #inspired
Damn frog genetics.
Sorry Jack, but I have to correct you, it was WILLIAM the conqueror, not Henry,
when he said what really repopularized the french fork was....germans. i really thought he was gonna say hipsters.
You can change your name to Jack Forkbeard and be a pirate
Get the fork outta here. Beard on Jack! Looking good man.
