  • The Battle of Perryville in Kentucky took place on October 8, 1862. Confederate General’s Thomas Jones’ and John Brown’s brigade attacked Union Generals William Lytle’s and Leonard Harris’s brigades. During the battle, Confederate forces under Jones and Brown, along with those under Confederate Generals Patrick Cleburne, Daniel Adams, and Bushrod Johnson, broke the Union line. Union General Lytle was wounded by a shell fragment on the side of the head and left for dead on the battlefield. Confederate forces pushed Union forces back a mile and a half to the Dixville Crossroads, when darkness ended the battle.

Thanks! This portion of the battle was the Loomis Heights area. Basically the Confederates advanced and pushed the Union back over the span of a few hours. The Confederates won this battle but gained nothing out of it because the next day they realized General Buell’s entire Army of The Ohio (some 50,000 Union troops) were nearby and ready to engage if the Confederates advanced any further. The day following this battle the Confederates left towards the Cumberland Gap and back into Tennessee and gave up on trying to take control of Kentucky.

That’s awesome! How long have you been doing re-enactments? That was the first one I’ve gone to and I thought it was great. Way better in person for sure

@@pioneer_productions Perryville was my second reenactment that I’ve ever participated in. In this video my unit the 44th TN was on the extreme left on the confederate line.

Me too! It was pretty incredible to see in person. Trying to put yourself in the soldiers boots and imagine what they really did in that exact location 160 years ago is humbling and gives a huge sense of respect for both sides right or wrong. I’ll be going to more of those for sure!

Always mean to travel to a real/decent reenactment.
I lived in Massachusetts years ago and went to one in Groton MA (cuz you know, there were huge civil war battles there 😐)..
There were about 15 people on each side.. the crowd outnumbered the combatants by like 100 to 1.
It was a hot day so they were chugging down from plastic water bottles on the field..
There was one actual casualty... A guy who was about (I'm guessing) 315 lbs, and about 5ft 2in tall who got light headed.. which paused everything for almost an hour.
I don't think there were any 315 lb Confederate soldiers back then, or Union but hey... who am I???
And every single reenactor was constantly yelling "HOLD THE LINE!!!"
    🤦
