We are not in chaos. The flash floods only affected parts of central Singapore. That picture about southern coastline and business district is very misleading and inaccurate.
The flood will occur when it clashes with high tide - as in this case. If you look at the geograhical map of Singapore, you will find that Bt. Timah is not on hilly ground. In 1969, I carried out flood rescue in Bt Timah - from University Road to Newton Circuse; Orchard Road, Jurong area where Chua Chu Kang is, Tao Payoh ( at that time mostly vegetable farms); and Old Tampines Road. Although there are new buildings now, the geographical terrain remains unchanged - even though the Bt Timah canal is widen. So this is just one of the days when very heavy rainfall and high tide comes together.
Our floods are just puddles compared to natural disasters happening in many countries. One little flood doesn't create chaos in Singapore. We only suffer from man-made ones.

So much water wasted and they have to drink recycled water. What is the rationale? There should be some means to collect this wasted water and stored in giant tanks above and underground. Solar panels can be used to channel water to water tanks and on a sunny day provide shade in such a hot country.
