I actually felt bad for Astrotrain in that opening scene. Here he is, as low as anyone on energy and the minute he crashes and spills the energy, he is basically kicked around and prevented from "eating'. So sad. lol
Drinking. When TFs consume too much energon they get drunk so their method of consumption is drinking. They can also recharge via direct cable connection to a power source.
Astrotrain should have drank some air wherever he got that from he should have gotten enough for him and his comrades Astrotrain wasn't the brightest bulb in the box no wonder he wasn't fit to be leader
@@BryonYoungbloodit all changed after unicron attacked cybertron, galvatron was missing then when found he’d lost his marbles by that time the decepticons were a mess, ironically if starscream was still alive I recon he could have led the decepticons on small raids to re energize themselves and maybe at least return to earth and their underwater base. @@Makeitso2023 Starscream could be a LOT of things, but he also could be a good tactician when need be for sure. I'm sure he might have done what he could have to help the Decepticons resupply their Energon here and there potentially.
Unicron was so terrifying...the opening in the movie has stayed with me for, 4 decades....kids just aren't exposed to that type of content anymore where memories are built and stay with you because you were a terrified child watching a planet devour another and process the bots and eating them....
He probably returned to the Decepticon planet on his own, was flattered that his soldiers would save him, went back to the lava planet, accidentally fell into lava, and the rest is history. No I can’t remember the names of the planets, why do you ask?
19:37 So I guess Motormaster has respect for Optimus. Wasn't expecting him to call him a great leader, but that also implies he doesn't see Rodimus the same way. He said the Autobots USED to have a great leader.

And when he came back as Galvatron, Starscream could immediately tell it was him while Soundwave couldn't! Or he could but the writers just didn't care about Soundwave.
Watching this makes me wonder how effective the Decepticons would have been with a sane Megatron in charge and Cyclonus as second in command instead of Starscream.

I blame the show writers not understanding what it was about Megatron that people liked, ye Galvatron is him reformated, he wouldn't be as insane as he is, likely he was damaged in someway and just never got it fixed
Of course, one has to wonder if Megatron would have retained the insanity he shows here as Galvatron due to what happened to him after Rodimus sent him hurling from Unicron's head into deep space, and he ended up returning back to Megatron...
Blurr’s speed means he can deliver the cog faster than anybody. Wheelie can, uh, Wheelie can… can probably fit in Blurr in robot mode and carry the cog in his hands so it doesn’t rattle around in there. Yes that’s it. A perfectly reasonable answer. I’m not just trying to send them both away while I just need the one loser. Now, you too! No time to test my theory, just go. The fate of Metroplex depends on it!
I remember how Motormaster brought up about how the Autobots used to have a great leader near the end of this episode when the Decepticons were talking about attacking the Autobots and you can hear Rumble screaming in the background how they should pulverize the Autobots and how Onslaught would say it was a bad idea to attack the Autobots in they're condition which is also kinda weird that they were talking with each other which is crazy considering at the beginning of this episode they were all trying to kill each other over energon cubes I mean if the Decepticons act this way I can guess that is why Octane sided with the Autobots somewhere along the way.
Everytime the leader was gone the cons fought each other The cons cannot rule a decent civilization without somebody string and smart controlling them The autobots can at least run a peaceful society
Wait a minute! It just hit me! Since this was released in 1986, 2005 (0:54), would have been 19 years to the future for us kids. I remember being blown away at the idea of 2005. That was so far off. But now it’s May 2024, which means 2005 is 19 years in the past. But that seems like yesterday. 😢
I liked Leonard Nimoy as Galvatron in the movie, shame they couldn't have kept him as the voice of Galvatron, he could've worked with Harry Mudd on amost every season 3 episode then, lol.
@@ValiantWrestling Galvatron reclaiming the voice of Frank Welker was to go with his insanity, from the length he spent in the lava, after he got thrown out of Unicron, back in the movie (the lava is exactly where he landed). He was voiced by Leonard Nimoy in the movie, his first appearance, as he was sane (he hadn’t spent so long in the lava, on Thrull). Yes, when Galvatron reclaimed Frank Welker, as his voice actor, it always reminded fans of the fight he had, back in the movie, with Hot Rod (lasted until the Autobot matrix, of leadership, changed Hot Rod into Rodimus Prime, which is exactly when Galvatron got thrown out of Unicron, followed by landing in the lava, on Thrull, which, again, Galvatron spent some time in, which is how he got his insanity).
@@michaelweech6432 I think Welker getting the gig back probably had more to do with budget and time commitments. It's one thing to get an established live actor for a movie, but a very different one to get him for a TV cartoon program. I never really liked Welker's crazed Galvatron voice. He sounded whiny. Galvatron never identified his self as Megatron at any point in G1 cartoon. Listen to what he tells Ultra MGnus while he attacking him on Earth in the 1986 movie....
What makes you think the Decepticons would have negotiated at all with the Autobots? Or vice versa? Per narrator, Victor Carolli "The Decepticons are a malevolent race of robots, driven by a single, undeviating goal, total domination." Does that sound like a race receptive to negotiation,. even in the face of defeat? Completely exterminating the Decepticons would be out of character for the Autobots, so exile to Char seems like the only likely alternative.
@@houseofno 1. I don't think you fully understand Optimus Primes personality. He would strive to even preserve his enemies. 2. I don't think you fully comprehend Evil either. A truly evil individual would take advantage of a peace offer when certain defeat is eminent. Then they would use that peace time to rebuild for another take over attempt.
I'm sure Prime would have thought it out: Prime would do his bid to help, Galvatron would inevitably attempt to take advantage, all parties would wind up in the exact same position they were before, if not worse. No, Optimus would be wise enough not to waste those resources. It's called "casting pearls before swine". Optimus is no fool.
I think that was more of a long term goal, Cybertron was nearly eaten by Unicron and both Autobots and Deceptcons suffered heavy losses. There probably was only enough resources and bot power to reestablish order, not enough to reintergate the Cons.
This is a great example of how some of the most well-written episodes in Season 3 were assigned to AKOM, while some of the less remarkable episodes were assigned to Toei. I mean, did they really need Toei to animate episodes like Chaos, The Killing Jar, Money Is Everything, and Surprise Party? Five Faces of Darkness should have been animated by Toei, especially since it incorporated a couple of scenes from the movie.
Chaos and The Killing Jar are among the series' best episodes. But I agree episodes like Money is Everything and Surprise Party are lousy, and less "deserving" of Toei animation.
@@plushiecouncil1102 My mistake. Surprise Party was at one time believed to have been animated by Toei because it looked better than anything AKOM did. But apparently it was animated by Sei Young Animation, which was a Korean studio. Go figure...
IMHO, the first and second season Toei episodes are better than just about anything Akom ever did, especially that lazy, poorly animated, abbreviated "fourth" season consisting of three measly "Rebirth" episodes. What a crummy way to end an otherwise overall great series. "More than Meets The Eye," "Ultimate Doom," and "Desertion of the Dinobots" are my all time favorites, in that order. Odd coincidence that these are all multi-part episodes.
When I first saw season 3 of the Transformers I was glad that they started right after the events of the movie but the one thing I liked was when they brought Optimus Prime back in the 2 part episode The Return of Optimus Prime.
As a kid I was happy Optimus came back, now as an adult he was better off dead due to the story. He wasn't suppose to come back (in story revival contradicts BADLY) and he had his time as leader. I understand why people vehemently hated Rodimus at the time (and many still do) but I could never really get behind that. I think seeing a realistic aftermath of a forced “coming of age” story is an interesting approach. He constantly doubts himself and struggles with his confidence, but when people need him, he’s there. And despite all his fussing about being leader, it’s obvious that he cares deeply about others and keeping the ones he loves safe. Even when he’s being kinda lame it’s endearing to me. He’s just trying to find his way in the world with the weight of a responsibility that he didn’t ask for. And he’s also funny as sh*t lol
Rodimus Prime was the chosen one who restored the Autobots to Cybertron, the Autobots were getting turned into burnt out toaster ovens Megatron was beating Optimus Prime to the punch! If Daniel didn't make Hotrod look at the shuttle Megatron would have slaughtered the rest of the Autobots! As children you don't see it that way Optimus Prime was alot of children's favorite character and I understand that, but I am a adult, and Rodimus got way more done, not only did he get Cybertron back but it function as a galactic peace conference on Cybertron. Traveled through the Matrix discovered the creators, protected Cybertron from them and Galvatron, as well as assist Melissa Morgan with Earth space command around earth and throughout the solar system. Optimus had only one battle front and that was stopping Megatron from steeling earth resources, but allowed Megatron to build a Space bridge? But Rodimus gets all the heat and Optimus was leader longer he didn't really accomplish that much? The Autobots were losing under his campaign? Getting destroyed? Optimus died because he wouldn't take action he was hesitant!? And was allowing Megatron once again allowing Megatron a way out like season 1 and 2.

Not really. IDW Autobots aren't the same with G1 Autobots. Somehow, IDW tried for the moral grey thing and make the Autobots committed war crimes. Their Autobots is the worse version of the Autobots. Season 3 may have had its issues and was a much more drastic departure from what we already knew from the first two seasons but i thought the Five Faces Of Darkness 5 part episode was a brilliant continuation of the 86 movie which showed you what happened in the aftermath. We saw the Decepticons for the first time completely powerless and a shell of their former selves fighting amongst themselves with no leader to guide them. Unicron was destroyed, Optimus Prime was dead and the Autobots were thriving with their new leader Rodimus Prime who had very big shoes to fill. There was a certain chill in the air with a sombre feeling that things were only going to get worse before they got better, it also did a great job in setting up a new enemy for the show who had a shocking connection to both Autobots and Decepticons. An excellent start for the 3rd season
Here's to clarify to you, Megatron and Galvatron are the same guy (he's been reformatted by the planet-gobbling world Unicron). Jazz is not Munka Spanka from the Argonon cluster and why is Galvatron doing here among the crowd of Decepticons on Chaar?!!!
"Well they were the same guy." Well, Astrotrain is not wrong. If only they had written Galvatron better in season 3 and not made him an unstable maniac.
A departure from Earth is exactly wnat the cinematic version of the Transformers needs right now. We had six movies that took place on Earth. Plus, the op for season 3 is quite underwhelming. For someone who hasn't saw the movie first, the luck of Rodimus Prime and the other new additions is comfusing.
No a reboot is needed which is what Trasnformers Bumblebee was. Unfortunately that movie didn't do well commercially so there is a danger we go back to the Bayverse again where TF is just a generic popcorn flick instead of a series sci-fi thing. I like the Travis Knight flick more than the big budget explosion fest of the bay movies. Perhaps there can be a compromise where we get good well-choreographed fighting scenes and that big budget feel to it. Cybertron was meant to be the place they fled because it was destroyed by so much war and fighting. (no resources left to continue fighting there anymore because its depleted - think of Mad Max where fuel is precious commodity now) It was merely where the war began.
@@UToobUsername01 Rise of the Beasts appears to be set in the timeline Bumblebee set. A video was released showing Prime as he appeared in the Travis movie. I think the animation quality was more difficult to achieve and maintain when compared to seasons 1 and 2. A ton of new complexities were incorporated into the show such as new alien worlds, concept vehicles, and an overall emphasis on futuristic society. I also think that there was less money in the budget after the Transformers Movie underperformed at the box office. That being said, I definitely agree with you that the animation left much to be desired especially when compared to the earlier seasons.
@@alecaquino4306 this season's lack of budget had nothing to do with how the movie performed in the cinema..this whole season, except for the last two episodes was completed before the movie hit the cinemas. I always found it funny that people hate hotrod/rodimus and say how much better a leader Optimus was but here's some fact. When Optimus was leader the Autobots were all but pushed off Cybertron, low on energon, and basically resistance fighters who fled there world. Under Rodimus Cybertron became a power house in the galaxy and was well supplied with energy and very firmly under Autobot control. Admittedly that maybe because Optimus had to contend with Megatron who for all his faults must have been the superior military leader of the two. Rodimus had to contend with Galvatron who is more powerful than Megatron but after the plasma accident was a raging lunatic who did more damage to his own men than the Autobots ever did. Food for thought Bonus fact. Had Daniel not spotted the hole in the ship alerting HotRod to the decepticons attempt to sneak in and destroy Autobot city the city would not have had time to muster a defense and the Decepticons would have completely destroyed and killed everyone in it and the war may aswell have ended there. So you may not like him but HotRod saved the Autobots.
As a kid this 5 part episode is when I jumped shark on this entire cartoon. All the character changes and darker settings were too much for a young mind to digest. But looking at it now (late 30s) the coming of age and changing of the guard story angle wasn't really that bad. I think the writers underestimated how attached kids are to established main characters of a show
TBF it wasn't the writers choice, as the show was basically a glorified commercial for the toys, they were pretty much told X dies and is replaced with Y, make it happen. It was the executives who were shocked that strangely people preferred Optimus over the crybaby Rodimus.
@@MrSniperfox29 Crybaby? He didn't cry. He is just a young and inexperience leader that still needs time to grow. Not to mention the episodes were he was an absolute jerk (omg we just destroyed your home planet, meh, our's is better anyway) or a blithering idiot (yes, let's leave Grimlock in charge of something, what could possibly go wrong) Its small wonder why people rejected him when the previous leader (who died because of Hot Rod) was beloved by all. The sad thing was Rodimus best episode, where he finally realised he had to grow up and take charge happened to be the last before our all-powerful ass kicking mega hero Optimus returned to save the day.
I went to junior high in late 1986, so I felt social pressure to put toys and cartoons behind me. The drastic change in cast and tone made it easy to lose interest. I watched just to see if any cool looking designs showed up, but the show lost its heart for me after The Movie. Still, I go back and try to find moments of meaning and maybe even joy, now, as an adult. The entire franchise is supposed to be about embracing change, after all, and not about desperately holding onto any kind of status quo.

I actually felt bad for Astrotrain in that opening scene. Here he is, as low as anyone on energy and the minute he crashes and spills the energy, he is basically kicked around and prevented from "eating'. So sad. lol
Did they have to transform into Devastator just to kick him, seems like a large misuse of energon
Drinking. When TFs consume too much energon they get drunk so their method of consumption is drinking. They can also recharge via direct cable connection to a power source.
Astrotrain should have drank some air wherever he got that from he should have gotten enough for him and his comrades
Astrotrain wasn't the brightest bulb in the box no wonder he wasn't fit to be leader

Gotta love Astrotrain flatly stating facts about Megatron/Galvatron at 3:46. 😅😅
For sure. He also was pretty right about how it was before Unicron reformatted Megatron into Galvatron-- Megatron tended to run a tight ship.

Yea they was reduced to savages fighting for resources
Everytime the leader was gone the cons fought each other
The cons cannot rule a decent civilization without somebody string and smart controlling them
The autobots can at least run a peaceful society

Yes, when Galvatron reclaimed Frank Welker, as his voice actor, it always reminded fans of the fight he had, back in the movie, with Hot Rod (lasted until the Autobot matrix, of leadership, changed Hot Rod into Rodimus Prime, which is exactly when Galvatron got thrown out of Unicron, followed by landing in the lava, on Thrull, which, again, Galvatron spent some time in, which is how he got his insanity).

Really
Indeed!
Toei didn't animate Surprise Party

I understand why people vehemently hated Rodimus at the time (and many still do) but I could never really get behind that. @@TF80s understood!
IDW explored that “good guys” winning scenario. Autobots basically turn into the Shattered Glass versions of themselves and nobody really wants that.
To be fair IDW Autobots were always more morally grey than most other versions.
@@TeamTowers1 idw prowl did some very unquestionable acts check out sins of the wreckers
How was starscream allowed to be in the Senate and chill with zeta prime, and why prowl and bumblebee allow screamer to ally themselves with him why did every autobot allow screamer to be ruler of Cybertron their sworn enemy
Why was not every devepticon put on trial after the so called ear ended Megatron should have been killed no trial
No wonder getaway turned traito
Not really. IDW Autobots aren't the same with G1 Autobots. Somehow, IDW tried for the moral grey thing and make the Autobots committed war crimes. Their Autobots is the worse version of the Autobots. They act like Decepticons. They don't act like Autobots at all which resulted in a very depressing continuity where the best conclusion is all Transformers should die for the sake of other species.
@@chrisedwards3214 Yeah. The whole Autobot Megetron bugs me so much. How can he be captain of an Autobot ship and the Autobots on the ship didn't say anything? Those Autobots should try to kill Megatron on a daily basic. After all, Megatron killed their friends and comrades, committed so many monstrosities. I read somewhere that the writer was surprised that the readers sympathized with Getaway more than Rodimus' team so he tried to make Getaway into a bad person. Honestly, IDW continuity is a mess.
@@miyako1909 This. I ignore that whole story arc mostly for that part. Megatron has killed and had others killed for over 4 million years and they're just fine with him playing nice and taking control of the ship that's going to find the knights.
You know what, I think Jazz is called Munka Spanka is because that’s their language of saying Jazz
What great writing. I wish today's cartoons were like this.
Is that what you really think?
@@edadankmemes what a deep question. It was a thought I had when I first watched the video. Do I still think the same? Probably not.

Shrapnel & Kickback? But I thought they became the Sweeps.
14:29 Ramjet & Dirge but I thought they were crushed by Unicron?
The thing I hate about the movie and the this season moving forward, is that there was no sign of Chip Chase. He would've been running some stuff big time and probably walking with cyber enhancements.
Sparkplug wasn't mentioned again its assumed he died
@@chrisedwards3214 Yes, it is likely that Sparkplug died, by the time the movie aired (followed by season 3), and when his son Spike was now an adult, and Spike’s son, Daniel, was born (this is when Carly additionally became an adult, as well as married Spike, hence, not only was ‘Witwicky’ her married name - we’ll never know what her maiden name is, but, most of all, become the mum of the newly born Daniel).
As for Chip Chase, we’ll never know what happened to him, by the movie, and thereafter - in season 3. It’ll always be a mystery.
@@chrisedwards3214 Actually, in the script, Sparkplug was supposed to be travelling with Blaster to Carbombya but for some reasons, they cut him out and Blaster spoke his lines instead.

They really doubled down on wheelie and blurr, the two most tiresome Autobots together in a main story line...whilst "Munca Spanka" gets to win the loser Olympics against some other forgotten, beloved Autobots! Season three is a real mixed bag. Dirge, ramjet and thrust all got killed in the movie, yet here they are back again. can't believe all the episodes are here though, big respect for that!

6:32 I thought this was Jazz. Who is "Munkus Benka? Jazz was clearly the winner.
9 year old me was thinking the exact same. Adult me is still wondering who this "Unga Manga" dude is
They're on about searching for Galvatron yet he can be seen among the Decepticons celebrating this announcement! Gas. Truly amazing toon, laced with a tonne of anime errors.
this is probably the only time where we get to ever see Jazz again.
Transformers always had animation errors. But man once they switched companies for season 3 it went into overdrive with it.
I find it sweet that spike married carly
They obviously did before the 1986 film.
Yet we don’t know (and never will) what Carly’s maiden name is (nor what happened to Chip Chase). By the time Spike and Carly become adults, get married and have a son - Daniel, at least we know what happened to Spike’s dad Sparkplug - it is likely that he died.
I love how no one picks up on Blur's obvious cocaine addiction.
You might be aware Blurr’s talking style is a speech disorder that his voice actor - John Moschitta Jr. - was unlucky to be born with - talking very fast (and has to live with for the rest of his life) [well, he’d have to, if he was born that way].

Season 1and 2 we’re great! Movie was awesome! After that they really looked bad size of devastator and the memasor was so off lol
This was the first episode of the third season, just an FYI.
The movie is the start of season 3 after all🤓
Look at timestamp 20:30 I don't think Galvatron needs rescue.
Well!! Look at that.
6:45 and the winner was who????🤣
Here's to clarify to you, Megatron and Galvatron are the same guy (he's been reformatted by the planet-gobbling world Unicron). Jazz is not Munka Spanka from the Argonon cluster and why is Galvatron doing here among the crowd of Decepticons on Chaar?!!!
"Well they were the same guy."
Well, Astrotrain is not wrong. If only they had written Galvatron better in season 3 and not made him an unstable maniac.

@@MatthewTheWolf2029 that is true but it's very weak.
So bizarre how sudden it feels the tone shifted. Also, what was that Grimlock laugh?
'Carbombia' was what made Casey Kasem quit the series in protest.
I also liked the Travis movie and i believe that the commercial failure was because it followed The Last Knight. If it followed Moon, i think it would be a smash hit. Plus, it showed more symphatetic human characters. My complain though was that i am sick and tired with this Bublemania. I want to see the focus shifted to Optimus or at least someone else.
@@MinasTsambanis All the live action TF 🍿 are 💩 (including Bumblebee)…they need to just give it up…The G1 animated series & 1986 movie are good enough.

I still prefer s3/4 but wish they had the money for the good animators like they did for earlier seasons.
Unfortunately as shows progress, they lose audience numbers and budgets are cut, at least the season had it where it counted.
Agree, love the animation from call of the primitives!
@@alecaquino4306 this season's lack of budget had nothing to do with how the movie performed in the cinema..this whole season, except for the last two episodes was completed before the movie hit the cinemas. The poor quality was probably more about the fact that after how much they'd spent making the movie, there wasn't much left in the kitty for the production of this season, so they decided to hire bargain basement animators to do most of the episodes in an effort to save money...big mistake.
@@TF80s Did I upset you? I heard different.
Food for thought
Bonus fact.
@@MrSniperfox29 I like rodimus
@@MrSniperfox29 Crybaby? He didn't cry. He is just a young and inexperience leader that still needs time to grow. People like you forgot that Optimus had been leader for 5 millions years while Rodimus only has a couple of years. I am glad the real-world isn't full of people like you or else, the younger generations won't be given chances to grow and lead.
@@miyako1909 The problem was that he spent 90% of season 3 crying about responsibilities, responsibilities he only had because HE got the last leader killed. Whenever he could ditch them, he did so in a heartbeat.
Not to mention the episodes were he was an absolute jerk (omg we just destroyed your home planet, meh, our's is better anyway) or a blithering idiot (yes, let's leave Grimlock in charge of something, what could possibly go wrong)
Its small wonder why people rejected him when the previous leader (who died because of Hot Rod) was beloved by all.
It was after the disappearance of Galvatron and Unicron was destroyed but the Decepticons had Survived without their powers of energon cubes
I also find it funny that the autobots are celebrating and the decepticons are fighting over energeon cubes.
I know that this Season is Objectively worse than the first two, but this is where I started.
Thanks to a DVD with an incomplete set of episodes, I got to experience The Transformers for the first time (aside from the 2007 film).
That intro still sticks in my mind as what Transformers is to me.
