That, my friend, that is the worse opinion of all. Resignation. To say "a million times better than all the shit you hear these days on the radio". Who cares what the radio plays? No, I won't resignate to accept that a song is good just because it's better than others. You can't compare DT to inferior bands, you have to compare it to the better bands, or to their own better songs. Also, there are a lot of bands like Dream Theater, some better, some not so much, some different. Planet X, Porcupine Tree, Tool, IQ, Plini, Spastic Ink, etc, etc.
I know the other bands, but they are waaaaay different than DT. I know the music today is garbage and its a bad comparison I made, but come on, isn't true that everyone in the comment section is complaining of this masterpiece. It is a million times better than other "metal bands" even, and people still complain about this? Is that fair?
Agreed! DT are the masters of metronomes, but there is nothing wrong with writing a good song in 4/4! Why not? For those complaining, I guess they committed suicide upon hearing the Astonishing! (Just a joke guys, OK?)
This is not a masterpiece. Learning to live, Metropolis, Finally Free, a Change of seasons, Octavarium, The Dance of eternity, those are masterpieces. This is an ok song. I like it and all, but this is just a good song, nothing else.

Amazing... DT has captured the essence of PTSD without experiencing it. Most of us will never know what our returning servicemen and women are really going through. I hope this song helps some of them know they are not forgotten.

This will forever be Mangini's song for me... It's not less iconic than any DT banger made with Portnoy too. It's is such a good song and this is the Dream Theater that I love
I like how the riffs and grooves in this song seem like there is no escaping them and they always fall a bit short on where you were expecting them to end, it kinda gives the feeling of some sort of desperation and "powerlessness" that goes well with the song meaning.
I'm really digging the more straight metal approach this song has. A lot of people say DT releases the same album over and over, and this proves they can change things up a bit. Only thing lacking for me was Myung's godlike bass riffs, but I'm sure we'll hear many more masterpieces when this amazing album drops!
For drummers: The fill at 1:22 is nearly impossible to play without having mastered limb independence. It is sixtuplets where the toms create two descending arcs between double bass and the snare still stays on 2 and 4. You could easily just play the toms and double kick as sixtuplets but getting the snare in there on 2 and 4 is quite tricky at that tempo.
My favorite things about Dream Theater have to be: When LaBrie sings during their bridges, when Petrucci sets off on his insane solos, when Rudess just sweeps that keyboard like there's no tomorrow... And then, together with Myung's badass riffs, and Mangini's fantastic fills and rolls, it creates a masterpiece like this. I'm happy that every album I hear of theirs gets better and better. Can't wait for the 24th!

If you've stuck around long enough, you know their albums usually have one or two more mainstream suited songs, while the majority of the album is still what they always do...

Omair Sheikh I agree they are a little bit contrived right now, but this song is as good as anything they've ever released IMO. One of my favorites. As for denying that they haven't released the same album five times, I'll agree the album structure is similar, but each album is distinctly themed and strikes me in their own unique way. The same goes for every song, powerful in it's own way. I will agree they need to loosen up a bit and be themselves again, but this is still a AWESOME song on an album which is a worthy addition to the Dream Theater Lineup.

This new DT is awesome! I heard they are going to releasing another track from the self-titled album this upcoming week too. Definitely going to buy this new album when it comes out.
This is an incredible song to find. I came here from a dream, listening to a song that probably doesn’t exist. I tried hard to focus in dream to memorize at least a bit of lyrics so I could come out and find something. The dream lyrics were, “it just goes to show, you never really know, the enemy inside you”. This is what that led me to. It goes so well with the issues I’ve been dealing with, and is incredibly ironic that the band is “Dream” Theater. Synchronicities man.
They played this track in Hala Tivoli, Ljubljana yesterday early on in the concert, and it was so fucking powerful live. Unreal... The chorus won't stop ringing in my head.

The video reached the million views, proof that no matter the pissed off kids about the already 3 yo story on Mike Portnoy's departure bullshit, and the "they are not the same anymore" argument (while each of their albums are completely different from one to another anyway ! ) people are still listening to that and keep coming back to the video !! nicely done dt. + most of you are saying "the drum mix sucks" actually the snare drum is only a bit goofy, but the rest of the mix is just flawless (maybe a bit too loud, but you know the mastering has to be louder and louder if you want your shit to be "sellable" in the market)
Daniel Crozier rly? For me, they can put all the last albuns in one big 10, 15 cd´s pack. they all look the same for me... before was 1 or 2 "bad songs" in a album, now its hard to find 1 or 2 really "new" song! Even the guitar effecs are the same. I´m done for DT since SDOIT...
Marcos Alencar Yeah unfortunately will have to agree. The new album isn't anything original. This song is fun and has sweet riffing but much of it is recycled.
Over and over again I relive the moment I'm bearing the burden within Open wounds hidden under my skin Pain is real as a cut that bleeds The face I see every time I try to sleep Staring at me crying I'm running from the enemy inside Looking for the life I left behind These suffocating memories are etched upon my mind And I can't escape from the enemy inside I sever myself from the world And shut down completely All alone in my own living hell Overcome with irrational fear Under the weight of the world on my chest I buckle and break as I try to catch my breath Tell me I'm not dying I'm running from the enemy inside Looking for the life I left behind These suffocating memories are etched upon my mind And I can't escape from the enemy inside I'm a burden and a travesty I'm a prisoner of regret Between the flashbacks and the violent dreams I am hanging on the edge Disaster lurks around the bend Paradise came to an end And no magic pill Can bring it back again I'm running from the enemy inside Looking for the life I left behind These suffocating memories are etched upon my mind And I can't escape from the enemy inside

Vato Natroshvili Yes you are you right. New compositions of DT (and LT) are nothing like the old ones like Universal Mind, Paradigm Shift, Freedom Of speech, Kinderd Spirits, Erotomania and many others. Sorry extreme fans but these are bullshit, comparable to the music of punk groups like Limp Bizkit, Green day and others.

This album I've listened to probably 50 times. I'm a metalhead mostly, but like melodic metal as well and when I first heard this song I was hooked. I listen to it all the time. DT is awesome! I haven't seen them live, maybe one day.
Maybe you people don't get it, but if you ever experienced sorrow, despair, confused, haunted by irrational fear caused by things that you've done in the past, maybe you will do the same thing as the guy in the video.
So someone made preformed a speech on why they Love Dream Theater in my English class today. He made a big mistake by not telling me sooner!!! Absolutely amazing! :)
The Mangini haters need to sort themselves out. Just because he plays in a different style than Portnoy doesn't mean he is robotic, lacks soul or whatever excuse you might come up with. You guys are just trying to find errors with him that aren't there just because you're still pissed over the fact that Portnoy left. Face it: Band members come and go and that's nothing to whine about. There aren't many who whines over the fact that KK Downing left Judas Priest anymore, neither are there many who whines over that Peter Lindgren and Martin Lopez left Opeth or that Marty Friedman left Megadeth. Dream Theater fans should reason the same with Portnoy. You don't have to like Mangini but please, stop trying to find errors with him that doesn't exist just because you want to have another member in the band. Admit that you don't like him simply because he's not Portnoy. I admit: I also prefer Portnoy to Mangini but that's simply because Portnoy was a founding member, played in the band for 25 years, was a creative force of the band and drummed in a way that appeals more to me than Manginis. That is not a reason to bash on Mangini or to find excuses without grounding in reality in order to unjustify his membership. I love Mangini as well and I admire his contributions to the Dream Theater music, and even though I prefer Portnoy when it comes down to it, that is not a reason for me to try to find errors with Mangini that doesn't exist. I bet most of you reason the same when everything comes around. You are just to blind, dumb or proud to admit it.

Daniel Esteiro huehueheheu spik teh Turth
The video reached the million views, proof that no matter the pissed off kids about the already 3 yo story on Mike Portnoy's departure bullshit, and the "they are not the same anymore" argument (while each of their albums are completely different from one to another anyway ! ) people are still listening to that and keep coming back to the video !! nicely done dt. + most of you are saying "the drum mix sucks" actually the snare drum is only a bit goofy, but the rest of the mix is just flawless (maybe a bit too loud, but you know the mastering has to be louder and louder if you want your shit to be "sellable" in the market)
You are the first person I have ever seen on youtube to explain that from an engineer stand point.
lucas myers MOM, COME HERE!
I FOUND WALLY!
They have never had one album that was similar to the last, that's what I love about Dream Theater
Can't stop listening to this awesome music
Over and over again
I relive the moment
I'm bearing the burden within
Open wounds hidden under my skin
Pain is real as a cut that bleeds
The face I see every time I try to sleep
Staring at me crying
I'm running from the enemy inside
Looking for the life I left behind
These suffocating memories are etched upon my mind
And I can't escape from the enemy inside
I sever myself from the world
And shut down completely
All alone in my own living hell
Overcome with irrational fear
Under the weight of the world on my chest
I buckle and break as I try to catch my breath
Tell me I'm not dying
I'm running from the enemy inside
Looking for the life I left behind
These suffocating memories are etched upon my mind
And I can't escape from the enemy inside
I'm a burden and a travesty
I'm a prisoner of regret
Between the flashbacks and the violent dreams
I am hanging on the edge
Disaster lurks around the bend
Paradise came to an end
And no magic pill
Can bring it back again
I'm running from the enemy inside
Looking for the life I left behind
These suffocating memories are etched upon my mind
And I can't escape from the enemy inside
Bless you all lyrics guys
The clip is a huge selfie hahaha. Love the song!
Everyone in DT are excellent musicians, & I agree that they don't keep the same beat for too long, but this is very good video, & shows what some soldiers go through, coming home from wars.
this is not progressive! this is pagan metal :| this is extreme/heavy and new wave of something (for me boring) metal. this is regressive for me.
***** sorry if i get it wrong, but if you compare one music to shit and say that it's better :d it's the same shit. :d
in an interview the band mates stated this song was inspired by the feeling of constipation
A Acks The title makes so much sense now.
It s about a personne that has a virus. Trying to run from the pain. I am not surprised you have 50 something people linking your comment... People preffers take all things easy with no reserch.
@@alinmateescu1221
Actually, dipshit, it's about P.T.S.D... that's painfully obvious in both the lyrics and the other music video that was released. So not only are you a hypocrite because you also didn't do your research, but you're also a fucking moron for not being able to detect a joke. Get off the internet
Made me laugh for real.
@@alexg3455 Lack of IQ in general population and degree of fragidity is really infuriating isn't it?
This album I've listened to probably 50 times. I'm a metalhead mostly, but like melodic metal as well and when I first heard this song I was hooked. I listen to it all the time. DT is awesome! I haven't seen them live, maybe one day.
Rhythm is like "This Dying Soul"
go dream theater!!!!!!!
Its always a pleasure to hear whats new from DT despite all comments pos or neg
I'm surprised people don't realize this song and video is about a person with anxiety/panic disorder. Takes one to know one I guess.
+Gabi S I'm pretty sure they do... hopefully
+Damien Mutzakki See, I thought anxiety and PTSD.
same with me, +depression
it's about an ex soldier not being able to find a home with Anxiety and of course PTSD hence the lyric "I'm running from the enemy inside"
+Gabi S PTSD, actually. If you watch the other video it's highlighted somewhat more.
that moment when you realize the lyric video has got more views than the actual video clip !
Beacuse it has been realeased long before the videoclip.
One of my favourite songs ever!
Definitely one of the weirdest songs to put at 2x speed
It is as weird played in 0.5x speed!
0.75x sounds so badass
Dude what the fuck lmao, Dream Theater nightcore lmao
@@nicolarighetto3767 it is!
Sounds happy
Someone call that guy an Uber.
I agree completely. That album was elegant and beautiful.
I'm not even sorry about Portnoy, amazing job Mangini!
when you just ate a wickedly strong edible, it hits and you're out in public
2021 love from Nepal 🥰❤️❤️❤️. Randomly reminded me you all n your music ... Mt.Everest

Pain As Real, As A Cut That Bleeds,
The Face I See Every Time I Try To Sleep... Is Staring At Me Crying.
D.T.
Pain "As" Real As A....
Cotramjoxxx Look for lyrics.
J.P. you mean...:)
Ferdinando Beneventano del Bosco in this lyrics says "pain AS real..."
Took me awhile to get into this song, now I can't stop listening. Perfect "single" for this album, everyone shines in it.
imagine watching this guy filming this clip in the streets and thinking to yourself "jesus chirst this guy's high as fuck"
April 2019 listen
Well done Dream Theater, I can't get this song out of my head!
This song has an "Endless Sacrifice" vibe on it, don't you think?
love this song! sounds like DEATH THEATER!
Come back here after play Night Terror 👀
Awake, Images and Words, Black Clouds and Silver Linings. These are great.
Maybe you people don't get it, but if you ever experienced sorrow, despair, confused, haunted by irrational fear caused by things that you've done in the past, maybe you will do the same thing as the guy in the video.
Al Pra you do realize this song is literally about constipation
Memicus Dankis
O_O
Memicus Dankis Isn't it about schizofrenism? That's what JP said.
That's my favorite song from Dream Theather *-*
+Karen Leon have you ever heard about an album called Train of Thought ?
+Purplespecter Sure! That album is a pieze of art! is pretty cool
+Karen Leon then you can't say that this song is dt's best
+Purplespecter man, that is my opinion e.e if your favorite song is in this album great for you, but for me this is muy favorite song.
+Purplespecter WTF? That's her oppinion lad
So someone made preformed a speech on why they Love Dream Theater in my English class today. He made a big mistake by not telling me sooner!!!
Absolutely amazing! :)
Do somebody know what's the font they used for the lyrics?
It's the same as the Album Art of Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, do somebody know it?
***** I really don't know... I searched for it in Word but couldn't find it. I think somebody created it especially for DT.
*****
Thank you so much!
***** You must that kid from the show "Middle".
Comic sans
You are just to blind, dumb or proud to admit it.
ok but mangini still sucks and nobody understand why DT didnt choose marco minnemann at the audition
