------------------------
"Love Will Tear Us Apart" is a song by the British post-punk band Joy Division.
It was written in August and September 1979, and debuted when the band supported Buzzcocks on their UK tour in September and October 1979.
It is one of the few songs in which singer Ian Curtis played guitar (albeit somewhat minimally).
The lyrics ostensibly reflect the problems in Ian Curtis's marriage to Deborah Curtis, as well as his general frame of mind in the time leading up to his suicide in May 1980.
The song was first released in April 1980 and, after Curtis's suicide that May, became the band's first chart hit, reaching number 13 in the UK.
It also debuted at no.1 in New Zealand in June 1981.
The band postponed their US tour after his death, performed a few short sets as The No-Names, then finally renamed the group as New Order.
"Love" was re-released in 1983 and reached number 19 on the UK charts and re-appeared at no.3 in New Zealand during March 1984.
In November 1988, it made one more Top 40 appearance in New Zealand, peaking at no.39.
"Love Will Tear Us Apart" appears on the Substance compilation album.
It was first recorded for a John Peel session in November 1979, then re-recorded in January 1980 and March 1980. It is the latter version that appears on Substance.
The January 1980 version originally appeared as the single's B-side.
Popularity
"Love Will Tear Us Apart" has remained popular and was listed by NME magazine as the best single of all time in 2002.
The song was listed by Rolling Stone magazine at number 179 in its top 500 songs of all time.
In May 2007, NME placed it at number 19 in its list of the 50 Greatest Indie Anthems Ever, one place ahead of another Joy Division song, "Transmission". The song reached number 1 in the inaugural Triple J Hottest 100 music poll of 1989 and again in 1990.
When being interviewed for New Order Story, Neil Tennant of the Pet Shop Boys stated that "Love Will Tear Us Apart" was his favourite pop song of all time. He also mentioned several New Order songs in the same dialogue.
Films
The song has also been used in television programs and in films, such as the 2001 film Donnie Darko, in a pivotal scene before Donnie has to leave his girlfriend in order to save her.
The song is included in the indie film Wristcutters, which takes place in an afterlife for people who have committed suicide.
It was also included in a film about the Manchester music scene, 24 Hour Party People, during several scenes about the band and Curtis's suicide.
It is heard in the Doctor Who episode "School Reunion".
The film Series 7: The Contenders features a music video for the song which characters explain as being part of a school project. Their homemade music video is in the style of a cheaply made '80s video with actors dressed in stereotypical goth fashion.
In the sci-fi comedy radio series Undone, the song is performed as a chime on an ice cream van.
On November 11, 2009 it was featured in the opening scene of episode 7 of season 5 ("The Performer") of the television series Criminal Minds.
"Love Will Tear Us Apart" was also featured at the beginning of UK police drama, Silent Witness in the episode "Voids: Part 1".

This is really a great version.
I’ve always liked this better then the original. But then, I grew up in Austria in the 80s. Blue box, U4 ... this was the soundtrack.
Move Club war auch ganz nett
Coole Sache!
Was für Zeiten!
TMMS has a lot of similarities to this not just vocally but in terms of the guitar and drums.
DAS beste Cover dieses Songs das es gibt!
THE best cover-version of this song ever!
Austrian music!
Amen

This could be the singer of the most mysterious song of the internet. It sounds to me like he darkened his voice a bit for this cover than he did on the mystery song. I know a band where the singer actually has a higher voice but sings many songs much lower. The difference then sounds similar even though it's the same singer. But who knows.
it's entirely possible. I truly think this is the singer.
Some say it is. (Take a look at the German wikipedia entry of the song.)
Christian Brandl (the singer) would be the most plausible singer for TMMSOTI, but there needs to be concrete evidence to support this. So far, his collaborator, Ronnie Urini is the closest person to be with Brandl, but he keeps changing his story, ranging from “I’ve never heard of this song” to “we wrote a few lyrics” to “we definitely recorded this”. Other people have said to be booked for sessions of recording for TMMSOTI, but again not much evidence to support this. The voice definitely sounds like Brandl, but I'm not sure the music style is one of his - I'm happy to be wrong. His untimely death does explain why nobody has come out to claim they wrote the song. But until we have a reliable witness and evidence, this is purely an assumption.
Any this is my new favorite safe place song, I don’t live in pain anymore is that a coincidence, yes and no if you believe that everyone and everything is a flow, if so, you do then you surpassed delusions and personify, you see everyone going past you but you see out of a new perspective, it like watching you as a, fast forward movie and letting everyone and the flow of time pass... if someone picks at me I’ll let them there’s no point in stopping them anyway.
I love this place I can relax here now,
Like a Wind?
Yo

Alvin is not ruled out. I believe he sounds more like the singer of TMS than Brandl does. I think it’s more likely still that it was some guy from an amateur band that never went big.
well done!
Yeah really good stand out 4 a cover , coooool
damn this is a nice cover version
wow

This is like new kind of road trip for me, like a new childhood?
You are still in your childhood boy
@@Daniel_EDDA But I'm 19.
And how do I still retain my past self?
When I forgot everything about myself.
You're exiting childhood. I'm 28 and i still have my old self. You'll just grow into a more efficient version as you adapt to being independent.
You have so much more to do
El cantante misterioso tiene la voz mas grave ( pienso yo)
Es stimmt
!!!
Is this one of the earliest covers of the track?
Considering it was released on Feb 1980 I would say yes.
Thanks, the song didn't really get a cult following until much later
