I remember Brownsville as a busy beautiful town with people walking everywhere. Every summer we would come back to visit my mother's family and I loved it. The shoe store Merrill's, P.J. Dedolla's bar and restaurant, G.C. Murphy's, the diner and pharmacy and jewelry store. My uncle owned and ran the Brownsville bar and hotel and the restaurant next to Sheen's on Main St. across from the fire dept. The old hospital was turned into an old age home. I loved Brownsville!!!!!

Just visited Brownsville today in preparation for a young men’s leadership program. I was reading some history on Lafayette, George Washington and Christopher Gist and this area kept coming up. So much hidden history here. At at a nice deli right near these same buildings. We will be staying at this stop much longer than I expected during our three day leadership focus. I wish the nation had saved more history. I was especially interested in the bank, Baptist Church, and an old building across from them that had marble structure but everything else falling apart. Thank you for your awesome video…

Great Job Hannah! I visited Bowman Castle yesterday and can just feel the whole town yearning for renewal. With young people like you rooting for Brownsville, I'm sure things will slowly but surely continue to improve there. May God Bless Brownsville! Ron King

Nice work, Hannah. Small Appalachia hometowns need young people like you who believe in their communities. Hold strong to your belief--we need more of you in these beautiful places we call home. ~

This work is amazing and done by a lovely, intelligent young girl with passion for her community. She chose to be positive about the beauty, the architecture and the people. What a lesson for us all. Wonderful work Hannah.

When I was a child my PCP was in the old station. The architecture of the back and station are amazing and inside was even more impressive

Awesome job Hannah. I am also from Brownsville, currently in Uniontown, and from the time I lived there until the day I left I saw nothing but negativity manifest in the image of that town, due to the ignorance and negative mindsets of the majority of people there. That town is literally reflecting how people feel about it, and it's sad. If a lot more people spoke life and blessings upon Brownsville instead of cursing it, I am more than certain a drastic, positive turn would be made.

Brownsville is beautiful and the history there is astounding. Many homes date to the early 1800s.

I always thought that building looked like a castle. I always wanted to visit it, in the 60's and 70's when visiting my grand parents.

It's unfortunate there are not more photos of the vibrant Brownsville that I experienced in the '40s and '50s. Nothing like you see here. Businesses in every building, sidewalks full of people, and cars nearly bumper to bumper. It was a great place for me to grow up in the late '40s to 1954. We moved to Mich. in Dec. of '54. It was a sad move. I was very familiar with that tunnel in this video. Although I never went in it. Trains still were using it. Lived in town the first 5 years, then moved to the township on Union St. across from St. Clair public school were I attended for 8 years. Brownsville's best longtime booster built a home on that site a few years ago, and sadly he just passed away in early Feb. at the age of 94. If you are from B'ville, you surely know of whom I am speaking. I hope to see more pictures appear here of the vibrant town that I knew. CS

My video may have seemed to have cast doubt and despair on the future of Brownsville, but trust me, that was not my intention. I was primarily there for genealogical purposes, but given a second trip, I could easily put Brownsville in a better light. I was amazed at the natural beauty of the area. I doubt Brownsville can ever be what it was in the early 1900s, but why be that anyway? Brownsville needs to reinvent itself, take advantage of it location, and the nature that surrounds it...

Apparently b'ville was a huge contributor to global warming it had to go, it's time to let it go the democrates took all they could get and that was all she wrote, the historic part is at the mouth of the Redstone Creek and the road President Washington put through next to the Redstone creek part of the way from the area of route 51 and over to the Gist plantation, and Mount Braddock up to the summit and the Fort, not by using the Cumberland road between b'ville and Uniontown and over the summit...
Nothing ever about Briar Hill that was a huge community but it caused global warming to right democrates and had to go
