me and my soccer team were outside while it was raining and all of our hair stood up. i started screaming and a few of my friends did as well. i told everyone we needed to go inside immediately and we were in danger. the captains (the only juniors, oldest girls) rolled their eyes and told our coaches, to which the coaches said it was okay since we were scared. we proceeded to run to the nearest building and dried off. when we settled down, the captains decided it was not a valid reason to “run off irresponsibly and leave the equipment outside.” i was completely dumbfounded by this comment, so i said, “our hair was standing up, so we had to take shelter immediately….” they ROLLED THEIR EYES, and said “we know but you can’t just run off like that.”
it completely baffles me at the amount of negligence they had. everyone explained that if your hair stands up during a storm it means you’re about to be struck by lightning, but no, we can’t run off and leave the equipment outside because it’s more important than our lives. crazy.

If you do have a life jacket and you fall into a river or anybody of water do not take off any of your clothing, even if you are wearing steel toed boots, no matter what it is, it's going to keep you at least a little bit warmer and the steel toe has enough buoyancy to where it won't make you sink. 1) If you are walking in a storm and your hair stands up you probably don't even have a second to react. Drop down on your knees and elbows. Lightning gathers across the ground then connects upwards. Getting on all fours helps to let alot of the current to flow over you rather than through you. 2) If you are leaning on a metal building or vehicle that gets struck you are toast. 3) If you are out on the water in a metal boat you are potentially sitting in an electric chair especially if your feet are wet or in a puddle. 4) If you are out in the open and raising a golf club or umbrella, you may just cause yourself to become a ground zero strike point.

While it is true you should never wait to report a missing person, if the person is 18 or older the police will most likely tell you to wait 24 or more hours because they might come back (because they’re an adult and they can make their own decisions).
I still tell my parents where I am and they called the police that I was missing. I didnt answer my phone. I forgot my Portemonnaie at my friends house. I was the unknown person in the er. They found me in the hospital in a coma because I got hit by a car. Whacked into the windshield. My bike crashed into my back. Landed in a tree. Last thing I remember is someone talking about them hitting a zombie and someone talking to me asking my name and if I was conscious. Answered with Sam George then everything went dark. I could hear everything from my panicked parents saying they were worried to the doctor talking about me having a slim chance to ever wake up again because I really fucked my brain up. When I woke up i scared the physical therapist 3 month coma. So yeah I will tell my parents everywhere I go so they know and because of this they didn't use latex gloves vaseline or penicillin on me or what else I'm allergic to. I looked like a popped balloon when my parents saw me. My first words after waking up and getting the tubing removed was what was that about me having a high chance of dying rather than waking. They looked at me like what. Apparently I showed no signs of being in a state to hear everything

We have friends from Indonesian. They had the grandfather living with them and he always said "If the ocean ever runs away, get to high ground as quickly as you can.

Lightning always takes the shortest route to the ground, and if you're standing up, it's more likely to be you. Getting away from the tallest object in the vicinity and going prone does not guarantee your survival, but it does increase your odds of it.

The 24 hour rule is not a myth, I know many people who have been told by cops that they don't really worry until they've been gone at least 24 hours.
The police should ask questions that determine the missing person’s risk level. There are many factors which warrant immediate action. Make the call!

Actually, hair floating means it will strike near you. Happened to me in 1979 walking home from Elgin AFB in a parking lot. All my hair, head, arms at the least lol, stood up then the loudest bang I’ve ever heard. I was wearing combat boots so the sole probably insulated me from ground.
