I’m excited for this project and feel even more hopeful for it seeing how Liam is not at all ignoring the reality that so many loud voices are going to be against him. Instead he’s creating irrefutable safeguards for any doubters that may come up. Regardless of what the data shows, this will move keeping forward.

I am so excited. I have been following Lori's videos on the SPI study. Cannot wait for this research to come out. The best pet snake deserves it ❤

This is going to objectively show just what royal/ball pythons do and need in our care. There will always be neigh sayers but with the efforts being put forth to ensure transparency, the facts will speak for themselves. This long term change keeping of reptiles going forward! Really looking forward to this!

I’m looking forward to updates about this project!!
People arguing that tiny dark boxes with only substrate and a water bowl, that aren’t big enough for the snake to stretch out is disheartening.
People tell me their snakes thrive, they want to see data that snakes do better in other enclosure styles, “did the snake tell you they prefer a bigger enclosure??”, “you think the snake is sad without fake plants?” Then the arguments spiral into absurdity.
But I don’t know of any research papers that prove snakes function better, have better muscle definition, show less stress behaviors (I forget the term for it), live longer.
And the argument that animals deserve the ability to have day/night cycle, and move their body is lost on these individuals. They don’t care if the animal gets to display any natural behaviors. And every time I mention natural behaviors there is one shining example of exactly what is wrong with this hobby that makes the comment “I guess I should add predators because that’s natural”
Then there is the logistical side that states minimalistic racks allow for proper sanitation. Because taking care of 25, 50, 100+ snakes is too much. If you can reduce it to remove old bedding, spray disinfectant, replace bedding, put new plastic cup of water in receptacle, return snake and only knowledge when it’s feeding time or to clean up after it or breeding, you drastically reduce how much time you sped cleaning. But that means these animals experience virtually nothing but eating, pooping and breeding. Some people see something wrong with that while others see it as goals. A wall of drawers filled with beautiful snakes that solely exist so someone can have producing more beautiful snakes. Ugh.

It will be fascinating to see this project develop and reach publication. I don’t have enough years left to enjoy the presence of another reptile in my life, but I’m thrilled to consider the value this will provide for new and not so new keepers. God bless curious minds!

I’m currently doing my own personal research to further understand my own royals! People get stuck on morphs because that’s mostly the trend on royals, but there’s so much more to learn! I think that they are fascinating snakes that are both complex and unique! Simply researching why my royal Stormy is able to go long periods of time without food, yet maintain her weight and then shed, (3 years, same pattern each year) led me to dig for information on the “why,” and I realized that the Python Regius is highly misunderstood. The morph obsession is like a smoke screen, and it keeps people from learning valuable information about royals! I absolutely cannot think of my Royals as “pet rocks.” They are active in the evening and at night, and are inquisitive beings that like to explore! I like to share everything I’m learning about them with my viewers, hoping to clear the smoke screen!

Its insane the lengths people will go to, just to try and justify them not giving their animal basically anything more then a barren bin...
Pets are a privilege, not a right, and we don't deserve them when we can't be bothered treating them like actual living creatures.

My ball python roam all the time. It's 70% slower than the culubrids, but mine juse the ground to get to hunting places, explore or hide, also desent humidity 82%.
Alot harder to catch the ball pyton go semi aborial not going downwards & will never do it if desturbed.
When watering, they will sit 3 feet up with ez.

During the rainy season, Ball Pythons flatten out their rib cages like Draco and sail from tree to tree occasionally taking refuge in termite mounds they dig small apartments in with their vestigial limbs.

i'll be honest, i am really burnt out on regius. the insane attitudes that surround them should absolutely be fought against, i cannot think of any other species with such a bizarre whirlwind of opinions around it. it is good to keep pushing out the actual facts, but i think it is clear that people who dont agree will not agree. it is always the same arguments, even with ever increasing evidence to the contrary. i dont believe things will change while these types are still in the hobby, the blinkers are up and their heads are in the sand.
a good natural history thing is great, but it will not fix anything to my mind. chances are it will go the same way as any sound information that comes out. the videos appear, then the react/response/rant videos completely swamp the original. i wish that wasnt the way things went but they do. i would much rather see the regius obsessions buried in a sea of spotlights on other species. perhaps if the immediate information online was more varied the prospective new keepers would be more interested in other things instead of getting involved in the back and forth arguments.
i'm not saying people shouldnt keep them, or that they are not interesting animals. i just think that they are blown out of proportion, to the detriment of the hobby in general. i like liam, he is a good guy, and he should go ahead with this. i genuinely wish him the best with it.

    • @AnimalsatHomePodcast
      @AnimalsatHomePodcast  Рік тому

Yeah, I hear what you’re saying. My hope is that this research will fuel the next generation of keepers. I think you’re correct, it’s unlikely to change those who are committed to maintaining their opinion, but hopefully it sets new folks up on the right path. I’m also hoping that this model can be used for other species in the future!

@@AnimalsatHomePodcast absolutely. i wish the media didnt sabotage good content, but that doesnt mean it shouldnt be made. the things you guys do makes a difference, and for those who are keen on regius it is invaluable content. i also fully appreciate that the popularity of regius makes it a good thing to focus on for the channels.
my gripes with it all comes from the way the internet and the algorithms are seemingly designed to blow things up. the ranty videos seem to get pushed a hell of a lot more than useful information that they are ranting about.
if some of the new keepers can see someone like liam getting up and going out to do really cool stuff, maybe it will inspire some to see past the argumentative side. i hope it does well, because i would really like to see in depth content on other species too.

Before selling any reptile the buyer must either have knowledge or must go away & research question sheet for specific animal before sale - Ameyzoo UK . they breed Ball Pythons in Ghana for export + they are common in Gambia , no one fears them so they don't kill them
