1968 Indy Turbine Tech Belongs OUT of a Museum | UAP

- 1968 on the day of the Indy 500, jet turbine-powered 4wd racers could have easily won. But that technology got destroyed. Small wonder when oil companies rule the racing world, bent on maintaining inefficient and less-effective solutions for transportation since before dirigibles and electric trams were similarly quashed.

Who is UAP?
UAP (as conferred by my subs) stands for Underrated Actual Physicist. I’m Orthodox in faith and technologically inclined by profession, but my nature here is rebellious... why? It often agrees with the traditional wisdom of Church Fathers, and knowledge of the Ancients by way of THE scientific method;
1. OBSERVABLE
2. REPEATABLE
3. REPRODUCIBLE
I’m making videos at a rate of about one per day,
A.) Championing God’s Word by inspiration and NOT imposition
B.) Remediating false narratives
C.) Rejecting anti-Biblical ideas when the premise"SCIENCE”
D.) Freestyling Historical and Scientific narratives that make more SENSE
Why? For Money? LOL ha ha haaa, I'm not even close to offsetting my income loss doing this; to share faith in the Good Creator I trust and love...
...I clarify things of pop-sci CULTure that tries to make it seem like the Bible isn’t true and God doesn’t exist.
Using inspiration, logic and comedy I wage daily battles against the ubiquitous indoctrinating impositions of authoritarian imperial 🧚♀️ tales institutionalized internationally by an inter-dimensional conspiracy.
Christian Holy Scripture has been assaulted systematically chapter, line, and verse. Consider me the Bible's defense lawyer, or defense Warrior. Armor of God and my sixth, sick sense (humor) accompany me, and my awesome Subs to battle!

Haha. That's perfect!
"All things are full of labour; man cannot utter it: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing. The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun. Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us. There is no remembrance of former things; neither shall there be any remembrance of things that are to come with those that shall come after."

They all broke down. Yet jet planes of the time are super reliable. When do three jet planes fall out of the sky all on the same day.
Gooood point. Hmmm.
We’re not far from electric drone Übers.
Because Jet airlines aren’t On and on the Power for 3 Hours , that put a tremendous amount of strain on small parts ,
It was the gearbox. Coupling the turbine to the rear wheels was new racing technology. Odd that they all broke after 190/200 laps.
Because Jet engines in jet planes are not directly connected to 4 wheels to propel the jet. There is no transmission in a jet plane and that is the part that broke in the STP car.
They all sound like jets... and the “space” shuttles
Space/Time shiłholes?
Hardly. These łurbans or rägHëads as they were never know; are and were legit real and true. Šprace shiłpoles are just a big ol bündle of sticks stuck up under the astrołwats blits. Aka NÅsa BułtCliłs aka astroPlied microPrÏcks.
Imagine 40 years of extra development of small turbine engines for use in cars? How reliable they would be? How cheap they would be? They are a lot lighter than conventional engines for similar power. And how fuel efficient they are? And given modern electronic control systems how much easier they are to drive. see constant power and smooth. Yet another 'missed opportunity' of technology?
Thanks for showing us what we should have today. Appreciated. And frustrating... Peace.
Ryan Q Vincent Racing technology winds up in the consumer versions. I think that’s why the terbins kept breaking down...
Tesla turbine has 98% efficiency rating. The most efficient oil burning engine is for large ships burning crude oil at 40% efficiency.
Everything is designed to break and wear out intentionally .

Except the crashed one , that was the fakest break down I ever saw. Those Cars are Beautiful for that kind of Race. They could make it a thousand laps I bet.
Just as the Hemi engines were legislated out of NASCAR, these turbines were clearly superior. The turbine is better at constant speed use, making more power as they gain speed and rpm's. Check out Jay Leno's turbine bike. Extremely loud---and the heat generated at the rear of the bike could be an issue in tight traffic. Chrysler experimented with turbine power. An old engineer I met once said he got a ride in one, and was very impressed. In NASCAR when they decided to run Japanese designed cars from Toyota, there was a huge uproar from the American racing fans. A lot of people just dont like change.
Turbines are awful for street cars, because the idle at like 60% throttle. Great for planes that fly full throttle all the time, but bad for cars stuck in traffic. Union Pacific ran turbine powered locomotives for 18 years, but those too were eventually done in with poor fuel economy, like a street car would be. I really liked the concept of an electric car with a small micro-turbine range extender, but those were basically eliminated before they hit production, because long range battery electrics like Tesla eliminated the need for them.
Today its called motor"sport'" what happened to the word racing ? I'll tell ya. ITS ALL RIGGED.
Question all pro sports.
KEEP FEEDING ME IM HUNGRY!!! SHOW ME MORE!
I mean how much fuel can it hold? I think turbine tech primarily runs on a gas called air...
Yes it's called Air Gas. Lol
I agree..... I live down the road from the great Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Back in the day anybody could make the race if you followed the rules and could qualify your car. I invested 10 years of my life to Team Penske, mainly in the 90s. I do miss it.
Cool story though
The bible used for Washington’s initiation is in the Masonic museum in Indi. Very odd architecture similar to DC. Both F1 and the Moto GP got canceled on that track.
@@fankyroll9454 that must be the George Washington connection. Yes, my town is Satanic, Masonic, Pagan, a tribute to Diana. Strange how people sleep walk through here and really do not get it, things just happen. I do like the architecture though. Race time, particularly the Indy 500 is a blast. Last year they had the Red Bull series airplanes out here.... that sport is amazing. Indianapolis is a town of bread and circuses, and huge conferences.... they hold many gatherings. Thanks and Cheers!
jarmyvicious I went to Indianapolis for the first time back in April. The architecture was really beautiful but I did notice that there is a private club called the Columbian club (cc=33) right in the circle facing the center thing. I thought that it has to be significant. Great BBQ too and that’s coming from someone from NC!!!
The monument in the middle of Indy, the one with the Greek goddess on top, had 330 steroid steps to get to the top. The cornerstone ceremony back in 1800s was a total Masonic ritual. The guy that platted Indy was the assistant to the guy that did DC. Check out the old Scottish rite building in monument circle too. All measurements in the construction of it are divisible by 3 for the blue lodge.
Dear UAP. I'd like to suggest contacting these old drivers, mechanics and crew chiefs about what really happened. I'm from that time and I assure you, they'll give you the straight poop on this subject. They LOVE telling their stories. Great video!
Could be a really good idea .
Yep, great idea having a chat with someone directly involved.
Remote kill switch...that guy was not in the know...he was pissed
Chrysler was making jet turbine cars back then as well...
Every year at our local drag strip, a jet dragster will jet down the little 1/4 mile strip. It’s funny because it takes so long to get to the ready point then down so fast! They can only run it twice in an afternoon they say because they are so ‘fickle’. Yet they are always the featured ones at any race!
Just wondering: Is the checkered flag a nod to Freemasonry
I think so...had that thought back when I realised the chess board is a nod. Oh and the English Ska music scene checker nod...
Wow! What an eye opener

This was a fascinating video! It happened in my birth year.
Sad that there are so many experts many of whom were not even born then. Thanks for the pictures of my youth as one of the crew from several years of STP racing. Perhaps you would like to see one of the fuel pump bearings that killed the greatest innovation in motorsports up to that time. I saved the one we took out of "silent Sam" in 67 and still have it squirreled away in my race car trailer.
The guy that handed the glasses to Joe was probably the same guy that gave him the black eye(s).
My '71 Super Bee 440 mag/6 pack/slapstick, 1 of 99, I should've kept! Dumb kid, but I just couldn't drive 55! Last ticket for 135, judge said: "Just one more, Im gonna throw your ass..."! LOL They also banned the super bird for being 'too fast', was only allowed as pace cars. BAD sports!
Where are your subscribers on this Subject? Great One!
I love the way you rip apart the narrative.
Them turbans run fast
Dude I like to think I am a car enthusiasts but I never knew Indy had a jet car!! Wow thanks you found another rabbit hole.
Several. In 1967 another turbine car driven by Parnelli Jones led 171 out of 200 laps before a bearing failed. I think it ranks second on the list of most laps led by a non-winner. In 1968, in addition to the 4 Lotus 56 entries (1 was fatally destroyed in practice), there were also 2 turbine cars built by Carroll Shelby. They practiced, but it was discovered that they had cheated the rulebook when building the cars, (I don't remember if intentionally, or if it was an oversight) and the cars were withdrawn before qualifying.
There were also several failed cars. In 1955, a Kurtis KK3000 (which finished second in 1952) had its Offy removed and a turbine engine installed by off duty USAF mechanics, and it was driven around by General Curtis LeMay to promote careers in the Strategic Air Command. It was never intended for racing, and both the chassis and engine were donated parts no longer fit for their intended purposes. In the early 1960s, John Zink made a rear engine turbine car, but it was too slow and never qualified. Dan Gurney went the fastest in it, in 1962, but switched to a Mickey Thompson Buick powered entry for the race. In 1966 the Jack Adams Aircraft Special was a front engined indy roadster fitted with a turbine. It never went fast enough to qualify. Of course the last front engined car to win was 2 years prior in 1964, so it was likely outclassed by the time it was even built.
15:26 It's all over Vel's face. He's pissed because he knows his car was sabotaged.

If Graham Hill was also meant to run out of fuel that would lead everyone to look a common fault but he chose to take a light scuff and snatch a wheel off . I'd guess that one of the others was meant to "take a dive" say the panda look a like, Which is why the crew manager and handlers were upset that he coasted past the pits and " broke down "in view of the main straight and all those eager camera men .
Its a shame the Normal cars didn't show their stops and all the safety gear that their crews have to wear have you seen the Helmets sun visors and fire suits of a modern crew they look cool .
I'm sure its Graham Hill who was photographed smoking and having a shot of whiskey while they refuelled his race car
Another great catch , good job well done
You do not "take a dive" with over half a million dollars on the line. Not everyone is as full of it as the current MAGA crowd. We raced for money and if you didn't do well you got very hungry quickly!
“This is where they would fuel it “ , said as if a theoretical they would perform this , from the bottom ? Turbines were banned from INDY the same year be because of the unfair advantage as I recall .
as a 55 year racing fan, thank you doug for pointing this out, love, robert in italy
Great find. The only product from STP needed is Oil and hydraulic liquid. Shared.
The turbine engine outperforms others so easily.
I went to a few Indy car races in Phoenix when I was younger. I always knew there was something more going on.

Daddy Oh 63 Not that I would do it, because it clearly sucks, but if I wanted to mount a terbin to the back of my truck, GE or PW wouldn’t sell me a terbin?
I was 10 years old when my dad and his high school friend, Jim Trueman, took me to the 1967 Time Trials (that's what they were called then). The STP turbine was the most mesmerizing thing on four wheels I'd ever seen: nearly silent, hugged the corners like your grandma, and so utterly outrageous that, of course, USAC banned it just as NASCAR banned the wing cars.

I would love to see just a turbine engine race that's for sure.
My friends Father was a NASA Engineer and used to Ceramic Heads and Turbo on the 4 cylinder and take on big 8 cylinders. They only had to let him start first, he would floor it and usually win from the fast starts!
I've never even given these cars' failures to the possibility of a "conspiracy", but this video has me thinking otherwise.
I just thought about it Talladega Nights the movies was mocking this situation in a way maybe all of it. 🤔

Turbine engines are not efficient for transportation use because of one simple fact: very high idle rpm. That makes them use a large amount of fuel when the vehicle is stationary. Stop/start technology also cannot work with a turbine as they have a slow startup procedure.
but they’re so efficient that they didn’t need to pit for fuel, just tires, and the HP was ridiculous so it seems like sabotage was used to buy them time to ban them altogether or they’d have won every race.
I will tell you that I have known some drivers, particularly well, and there is no way they would have conceded so easily no candy coat any of there words. Rick Mears for one, nearly lost both his feet from a malfunction. A likeable guy I hope someone had not rigged him for failure. Secondly, Helio Castronevez. One driver I had never met, Aryton Senna was the real deal and died doing what he loved.... unless someone did flip a switch in his car to kill him.

Is the jet turbine engine used in the U.S. army tank the same system type as the race cars?
Thank you.
F1 & Abrums tank jet turbines 2 minimal fuel & no room for fuel load on board evidently 👍🎇
I was a M1 A1 abrams tanker. Supposedly the M1 A1 max fuel capacity is 504 gallons. One day on guard duty me and the guys rolled 1 55 gal drum next to a tank. No way there is 9 of those drums worth of fuel in there.
However it did blow out 1500 degree f air out the exhaust. Stood behind it many hours keeping warm. Dont remember complaining about or remembering any exhaust smell.

Kill switch seems likely now. Threes a charm.
I had a yey old timey, auto enthusiast, back in the 1990s, tell me about “conspiracy theories” from the 1950s/1960s about turbine engines in cars. He said that some of the arguments against them, were exhaust so hot, it’ll heat up the cars behind you, and they would be to sophisticated for your average mechanic to repair. Less moving parts seems less sophisticated, and less burned fuel, seems like less BTUs, so I’m not buying that.
You know I watched that race and 67. AND now after 55 years I find out THE FIX WAS in. Disappointed hell ya!

No they don't. They have rotary (Wankle) engines.

Amazing, turbines are basically two fans that create a pressure vacuum that once started is virtually unstoppable.
What’s with the odd tree, for Indiana, being on the infield? Near the end.

Turbine = "No fuel" All F1 racers are turbines.
Notice the T in sTp on the car is there?
The turban lol That's just PC they didn't want to say rug head 😅
I cringed every time the announcer called it a turban jet engine. First of all, a turbine engine is not the same thing as a jet engine. Jet engines rely on the exhaust gases to produce thrust. The turbine engine uses the exhaust gases to turn a turbine that sends power to the wheels through a transmission. And I have believed ever since 1967 that the turbine car was doomed from the start because racing doesn't like anything that doesn't conform to its own notions. The same reason that electric cars today are segregated in F1 formula racing and put in a category called fe. It doesn't matter that the electric race cars can not only keep up with the gasoline engines, but can actually hold their own and beat them. What matters is racing is not what it started out being. Racing started out as a way to improve automobiles. It has nothing to do with improving anything anymore.
"and the crowd loves what's happened, they're all for the old fashioned
piston engines over the new fangled turbin". Lighter faster stronger better,
4 wheel drive, that's what did it right. FUTURISTIC. Be well, be REAL.
I was there … we loved the turbine ….
I wish one of them would have, or that we have the broader variety of engines, sure they got power but not as much as those turbo offys even they pushed 800-1200 hp but they too were written out, wonder how an offenhouser engine would do today against the fords and toyotas in openwheel racing today or if they were allowed to put one in and not just parts made by offenhouser but a big monoblock scaled up maybe to 6 from 4, might be interesting, you rarely see hp figures for the standard late period offys before they nerfed them down soo much. next we will problably be forced to just have electrics, sure you got torque but you dont have the rumble and the smells.
I was just wondering if the flagman was displaying some kind of masonic code when he waved the green flag🇦🇶👁😎👍
