raspi desktop + xinput-calibrator
Day #1 Of Requesting You Do A Video On The First Version Of Fedora.
I think the reason your hacking didn't work at 9:05 was because there wasn't enough knuckle cracking, shiftily looking around, and furious typing. Otherwise, great video :)
Definitely needed more knuckle cracking😂
Missing hoodie fo sho.
Thank you for a fun silly, nerdy video. Exactly what I needed to lift my spirits after a tough day (had to put my 16 yr cat down).
oh i'm so sorry to hear!
I'm sorry for your loss.
😢
I'm sorry you had to go through that! 😿
I was similarly distraught when my dog died...
Condolences to your dear cat❤
You should try Raspberry Pi Desktop because xinput-calibrator will allow your touch screen to work. On other distros you need an older touch screen kernel module for it to work right.
yes
Good advice!👍
Should still be able to install the package as both are Debian based
@@auzzierocks Yes. I had a CF-U1 from a warehouse that went out of business and I removed one package and replaced it with an older one and it worked after calibration. I forget which one it was.
@@auzzierocks I think it's the xf86-input-evdev package
I'm sorry, you were led to believe that hackers spend time OUTSIDE??
The scan engine built into the CF-UH1 looks like an Intermec EA11 imager, that means it would be connected via an internal serial interface. With a camera software that can control serial cameras, you won't be able to read barcodes, but it should be possible to take blurry black and white photos. Just in case you wanted another fun (or stressful) side project
Slackware is one of the handful of remaining 32-bit distros (ofc they do have a 64-bit version). Might be fun to play around with that.
as far as i know, here's a list of linux distros that are still available for x86:
[ ✓ means "tried it"]
• Debian ✓
• arch x32 (I forgot how it's called)
• Alpine Linux ✓
• Adélie Linux (was featured here on that old ThinkPad)
• Void Linux (probably will try it out sometime, will keep y'all updated)
SDR receiver in the USB port and (if it does not melt) use the touch screen to browse the waterfall and pick and decode/display interesting stuff: FM radio stations, ADSB plane transponders, analog camera streams ...
Also, there are graphical tools to calibrate the touchscreen under linux.
I too used to think "segue" was spelled "segway" :)
lol whoops
Likely because of the personal transport product called the Segway.
I know it's spelled segue, my brain knows it's spelled segue, my hand knows it's spelled segue. And yet, every damn time I still write segway
@@monkeyman767 so true!
You would have better results with the desktop and apps if you set it to run a bit lighter... Disable window compositing effects. Disable show window contents while dragging. Etc.
These tips apply to nearly all DE's, and even M$ Windows.
You could also easily switch from a full Desktop Environment to install a classic Window Manager instead... IceWM or Fluxbox, etc.
Or switch to an even lighter weight distro entirely.... AntiX runs lighter than Kali... and DSL runs even lighter than AntiX.
They are all still Debian based, so you still get that APT and .deb support.
And of course there is always Puppy.
this guy deserve 1M subscribers
just saying
You need to use xinput-calibrator for the touchscreen and it does the touchscreen calibration for you
You drive a XJ! That is the ultimate hacker machine!
Ever since you posted that short with “CHUNKY” playing, I have been singing it all week. THANKS A LOT.
Plumpy oh oh oh chunky oh oh oh
It's from Madagascar 2!
0:59 I put LMDE 6 on an old Acer Netbook with even less cpu power than that thing you're holding and to my surprise, it's actually usable on the modern web assuming you don't use more than 2 tabs at once. Even UA-cam will run at 240p at a watchable framerate
In my opinion the best distribution for machines running this older Intel atom Hardware is Linux Mint 19.3 xfce. From my experience working with lots of Hardware exactly like this that distribution will give you the smoothest experience while still being very modern and useful in 2024
Try installing haiku
Idk why but "this little goober" is cracking me up😂.
Same! Always love the unique projects and unique color commentary that comes with them!
It's a goofy goober!
@@minty_Joe we're all goofy goobers lol.
Honestly, that puny atom is way more capable than I expected. Is there a way to turn that thing into a raspberry pi or cube PC chassis
Suggestion for that little goober: run Classicube, by extension, regular Minecraft
BeOS of course!
An Android x86 gaming console would be fun
Perfect machine for John Connor in T2 remake (God forbid!)
I would love to see John Connor hack the entire modern internet using an ancient 32 bit tablet running Kali😂
That would make a spiffy little SDR driven portable plane tracker/virtual radar setup.
Congrats on 128k of subscribers!
I think most distros that don't support i386 is because they're based off of Ubuntu which also doesn't. Debian still has x86 and so does opensuse as you said and mint Debian edition. Arch doesn't because it's rolling but i386 distros aren't that rare stll
how about some more details on the nomodeset portion of the video? how'd you get there?
Whatever works on an ideal device on the go, right, even if it looks like a back in the day brick phone, just bring an external keyboard and pointing device and that should enhance the experience, cool back in day tablet, tho, ehehehe! 😺💪💻🥰⭐️💎
On a similar computer I had installed DragonOS Focal for Ham radio. And I had a lot of fun with it with my HackRF, a very good sdr transceiver. Unfortunately I dropped it wrong and the screen was broken 😒
not so a "tough"book if you cracked the screen
@@undefinedCat 😂😂😂
did you tried Haiku on this thing? it also would be nice to turn it into gaming console, with Lakka or something.
at least, it can run FreeDOS which is more cyberpunky
3:40 every expected failure in this channel is somehow a success 🤣
I would love to see if SliTaz runs on it.
mac os 9 on this machine
Ironic no Shenanigans on a windows labled machine without installing Mac OS 9
looks like it could do with a bit of haiku
Love the jeep Cherokee
Well, obviously it would make a good portable dumb terminal ; it's got a serial port after all. With level shifters on raspberry pi's uarts, you could connect to their serial console. And it's a X-terminal. (None of that modern web-browser rubbish.) The barcode reader (if fitted) could be entertaining for getting addresses for racked equipment. Let alone walking round a store scanning barcodes like a boss.
Too bad they don't have one of those with a N100, 16GB RAM and a NVMe SSD. That would be awesome. :)
Man, I know this is for entertainment, but goddamn the Blackarch repository exists too!
LOL, I remember back in the 2000s cracking WEP wifi passwords around my city. Though I didn't have kali linux on a tough tablet.
what exactily did you "build"? all I saw as an OS install.
Puppy linux!!
You can´t hack if You are not wearing a hoodie - everybody knows this! so the problem was obviously "Wrong Sponsor"
I loved the keyboard back in the day. We used them as a field controller running 12D field survey cad. We had these silly long-range Bluetooth serial dongles to connect to the Total Station... Ahhh memories
Funny I have a Dell using the same CPU and man a GUI install is slow as heck on this device (tried debian) but the install was less laggy for some reason lol, the cli though was fast as fuck boi!
Hey, if Kali stays on this...i can benchmark that via C7 against it on Kali. Before i do oddball stuff of course.
#teamREDwasHERE
#archGANGwasHERE
#archTHEhardWAY
Hackintosh it !
Put haiku on it 👍
I’ve been trying, doesn’t want to boot all the way 😭
Damn small linux
maybe I'm a dumbass, but I thought it wasn't updated from like 2011. and idk about installing packages
Does that Starbucks drink really say “S3an”? (^ー^)
good looking bootleg cyberdeck
why not try gaming on it with batocera?
When he went outside: cinema 🚬
Install Gentoo on this thing.
Batocera to have some on the go gaming fun.
Interesting. Reminds me of the Palm Pre, I had that.
Im so glad you are getting so much fun out of this little monster of a computer. Such power in such a small package! I should lend you the dual core version to see what you can do with that one! :)
Why 32bit so?
1:23 Firefox 💜 I use the same theme. Alpenglow in dark mode is just so beautiful 🙂
Nice video S3an
I really enjoy your videos. We have the same crazy love for old computers and stupid stuff to do with it
If it can handle running `ssh` it has a use, imho
Nice XJ. Use it for navigation in your Jeep. Pair it to your phone over WiFi and then use GAIA or ONX maps on a trail run.
r/masterhacker system of choice?
The true Haxx0r
I secretly hope Dark AleX sees this😂
Good times...
I would like to see you trying to install rhapsody on it.
so that's what those angry 10 year old xbox kids used when i beat them on CoD
retroarch
But can it play Crysis?
I half expected Shaun to go stand in the middle of a field 😂
TouchScreen Never Works In Kali Linux Setup!
yeah, debian installer can't support touch bcz of lack of drivers
sudo apt install xinput-calibrate
Gentoo next maybe?
HA. the U1 !!!!!!!!!
One of the Few toughbooks Ive not owned or used. my EDC is a maxed out FZ-M1 with the clip on keyboard.
Windows 7 stater ;-)
Reupload? New title? What happened?
Clearly it would be better suited for Slackware or Gentoo
There is one thing missing... no Shenanigans on funny hardware labelled with Windows without installing some kind of MacOS on it... the Frankenmac...
Now stick a Marauder inside it.
Kali was actually the first Linux distro I used because I found some Null byte wifi hacking videos and wanted to replicate them. super fun stuff.
one should load up the original software just to see how bad it was actually to use with windows, or heck try and get win 10 to load up on it
Having used one of these for work in the backroom at Target, the first thing to go is always the accuracy of the touch screen. They stop working correctly basically the first time the unit is dropped. We had maybe 20 of these at our store and the touch screen sucked on all of them.
I use kali btw
next step : installing android on this thing
Definitely a pre built and portable cyber deck....
Definitely looking like an hacker at the end of the video 👍
So thats why people go to starbucks!
Hilarious Segway…. Surely you mean segue and not the two wheel balancer mobile?
Used to work with backtrack for security reasons with an eeepc.
Does it still needs the special wifi chip?
getting i3 or another tiling wm on could be fun with the keyboard :)
Try godot on it
Shame BlackArch isn't 32bit anymore
Oh, I thought it was "In tot he am". Thanks for clearing that up.
I think it’s cool too. Maybe put a RTL SDR and one of the distro’s for SDR crap… As it’s only 32bit it may be better suited for radio. I mean doing any extensive capture analysis in 32bit might be a bit slow. Cheers 👍
Show us some of the hackery stuff it does! Id try myself but you said i can get in trouble! Lol
I been using a Toughpad FZ-M1 mk1 for Parrot OS, I got a stylus and use onboard virtual keyboard. The iKey keyboards are more expensive than the computer. I still kind of want one of them U1 though, not sure why they are more expensive than the FZ-M1.
We're in!
"How to hack" 😂
what about the version of mac os u used in ur action retro introduction?
my desktop is more complex than this, and the current motherboard is from 2010! had to switch to an older board... my newer board, that I had for over 5 years, CAUGHT FIRE! my current pc has a pcie sata card AND a pci sata card, it also has a usb sd card adapter on a usb2 header, and THAT is my current boot drive for ubuntu, I can't run a lot of new stuff on this pc however, no sse3 or sse4
It would probably be perfect for controling a CNC machine or something like that.
