Elizabeth Price (b. 1966) makes the transformation of digital works visible. The artist creates moving images, composing visuals, text, and sound to form spatial installations that restage cultural and sociopolitical events and focus attention on largely unnoticed stories. The SCHIRN is presenting a major solo exhibition of this winner of the Turner Prize, including both new works and others that are being shown for the first time in Germany.

"Arthood in its current form is only capable of producing what amounts to ineffable objects of increasingly internal complexity. Artist Elisabeth Price's tragic statement in relation to her own practice is a testament to this: "I am kind of working intentionally at, to (sic) try and make dense, complex things." -JCHP p193, Exit Exhibition. A Donation to a Critique of the Artworld.

And why is it an issue that she is working to do that? Different artists have different visions for how they want their art to be perceive, many artists want their work to appear simple and many want it to appear complex - there is no better of the two in my opinion. I would say the apparent 'complexity' of Price's practice works in its favour and adds an element of engagement to the work beyond surface level appearances.
