It would be lovely to see Max & Armand doing an exchange program for a semester or even an entire year in Korea. Imagine a weekly video of their experiences and the people they would meet. I’d watch for sure, their chemistry with one another and how they seem to balance each other out while in social situations is the formula for a great friendship and it’s always a pleasure to watch them interact with one another as well as new people.
Thanks to you guys and your amazing channels, me and my wife decided to honeymoon in Korea and are having an AMAAZING time here! The rules Armand and Max learned in this vid came in so handy for us one night in Incheon :) Thanks Josh and Ollie for introducing millions of people round the world - including this Irish couple - to the amazing food, culture and people of Korea. Funny enough, my fiancée and I are planning the same! We started watching this channel a few weeks ago and have enjoyed it so much that we've started planning for our honeymoon to be in Korea as well. If you don't mind me asking, if you had to pick one thing that you did while you were there to recommend to other travelers, what would it be?
@evanerickson194 Wow that is amazing! You guys will have an amazing time! We definitely recommend a tour of the DMZ, and also any of the Hanok or folk villages within the cities where they have kept the old style buildings and rooves - they are amazing. And the FOOD! Try it all!

Usually I am not a big fan of drinking games or drinking culture. In Germany it is so different. When I was in university I skipped this part tbh. But looking at this community vibe, no one excluded and all the respect they give to each other - I wouldn't mind to try that. ❤
Yeah, I think drinking culture at university in England was so toxic too. It was like a competition and the aim was to get the others as drunk as possible. Honestly at Oxford we had similar drinking games and traditions of everyone drinking together, but not necessarily with the same level of respect and care. However, I’m someone that doesn’t actually drink alcohol, so I feel like maybe England is better for me because of that😂 Because in England, once people knew I didn’t drink they didn’t pressure me, but I could still take part in the games and have fun, but I think in Korea it would be a lot more rude to turn down a drink.
I think this is the first time ArMax had a culture shock moment! I am so glad they immersed themselves completely... I wish I could also have a uni life like this
Im sitting here, 3:46 in the morning watching the video and I'm tearing up. In America I have never had a night that looks as fun as inviting as this one did. I genuinely love the energy and the rules making sure no one is left out to be alone. You have made me want to visit Korea for sure.
I spent a year at Yonsei (😜) and it was genuinely one of the best years of my life. College life in Korea is something I wish everyone got to experience at least once. I remember drinking/eating from 6PM-5AM, but never getting DRUNK because you're always hopping around from one hof to the next 🤣
Max speedrunning every Korean drinking faux pas is peak content--literally *everyone* reaching out to stop him when he poured for himself sent me for a good few minutes 🤣🤣
To tell you the truth, it was not a gesture to stop Max from drinking. In Korea, if someone in the group raises a glass to drink alone, everyone around the person reaches out their hands as a gesture to show that the person is not drinking alone. It's a tradition when they drink together in Korea. Koreans never let anyone drink alone. 😃
@@zelium What did the one young lady mean when she said "she was going to be single for three years" when Max was making mistakes to the drinking culture? Is it like "don't walk under a ladder", or "7 years of bad luck if you break glass" if you do not drink with the right etiquette?
@@Gamesquad8889 Your guess was right. Koreans have a myth that the person who drinks alone (at the party) gets cursed not to have boy/girlfriend for the next 3 years. It seems like the rule might have changed a bit because the lady next to Max got cursed. 😀 One more interesting to mention is that at the game Amand chose, one lady failed, however, 2 gentlemen next to her drank on behalf of her. We call that 'black knight' and it is a kind of courtesy of guys drinking for a lady. 😄
@@Gamesquad8889In Korea, there is a joke-like myth that if you pour or drink alone, the person next to you or the person opposite you will have no luck in dating for years. (used translator)
Wow! I've learn a lot about Korean's drinking etiquette. Such mindblowing. I was so shocked when Max poured soju in his own glass, everyone reacted so fast. Really amazing.
The Yonsei Chicken dance had me rolling! Max and Armand's jock energy has gone through the roof during this trip, lol. I can't believe how many rules there are for drinking in Korea, I'd be so lost and confused before adding alcohol to the mix. Max's "I've got friends!" was just the cutest thing ever. I can't imagine him going anywhere and NOT making friends along the way. I'm incredibly proud of both guys for as quickly as they're picking up the language.
Tbh once you get through the initial stages its not too bad. Also these rules are mostly upheld at the start. Once everyone gets pretty smashed you essentially just pour drinks for everyone else and drink when someone drinks. Its a lot of fun.
Yup, Max is very sweet but I think he was actually trying to avoid eye contact because that was one of the rules haha You can see Josh explaining to him right after that he doesn't need to bow but also try not to stare directly into the other person's eyes.
what makes the episode SO satisfying is hearing Armand and Max's commentary about each experience within the video. Also, Armand's voiceover layered on top of some parts of the scene (the drinking gathering) was great editing! really gets us to feel and see what he was saying about the experience! i loved the part he says "i finally get why u make friends so easily, because drinking is communal etc etc"
12:10 Poor Seoyeon! 😅 love this episode & how communal the korean drinking culture is! Seoyeon is also so cute & so good at hosting & explainingg things to Armax! ❤
that timestamp, what did she mean when she said she will be single for three years? if you dont mind me asking, i was just very confused and cant seem to find a comment explaining!
@that one multifan hrmm I could be wrong, but I think it might be a superstition if she is the person next to Max who poured his own drink (because she didn't catch it faster) 🤔 anyone who knows better, feel free to correct me!
@@thatonemultifan22 hello! I’m Korean. That’s just a joke. I don’t know why, but there is a superstition among Korean students, that if he pours his own drink, the person next to him or the person sitting opposite him will be single for several years.. So, it makes people pour each other’s drinks. (*it’s a culture and tradition of drinking together!) :)
I'm in love with the level of respect and consideration in Korean culture 🙏 This is what's missing in the Western hemisphere. I live in Canada which is known to be polite, but Korean people have such a higher level of showing consideration for others.. I love it. Really beautiful to see
It is great but the downside is you can't become very friendly or familiar with people even one year older than you. Even when you're close there is so many rules related to showing respect. So how close do you ever really get? I wouldn't want that.
@@aichohvee Don't worry about it, it just university culture. if you make friends out of university, large number of Korean doesn't care about that stupid rules
I adore how they just so easily make friends with everyone, and just jump into each new experience like it's the best thing they've ever done. Everyone is so kind and welcoming, too. ❤
I’ve been waiting for a British and Korean Uni student interaction. Them enjoying the life of a Uni Student in South Korea is pretty cool; seeing two cultures collide and have some learning experiences from one another it’s pretty remarkable and exciting to see. Armand and Max truly amazed us with the smiles and laughter they embarked on a journey of a Uni student from the UK through the other side of the world. I love seeing two people living the best life with the help of Josh and Ollie
i've just recently got back from my trip to korea and this video reminds me so much from the hospitality they have and give to others. They do and share everything together, eating together which is a completly normal thing is so so underrated when u do it like the korean people do it. They drink party eat together like it's part of their life. One day when we were heading towards our hotel around midnight and we crossed a bar that apparently just opened, and the owner invited us in and we had the best hours of our stay in korea. The man struggled with english but he tried so hard, we danced sang drank together like we knew each other for years and everyone at the bar joined in it was a blast. Korea i miss u and i wish i could stay longer see u next time
@ツyagamı yes! I've actually been to Holland a couple times. And though I really liked it, I agree that they could use a bit of that Korean magic overe there, in that way 😅
It is called "Jeong" in Korean. Although we are homogeneous, we do our best to help and not exclude other races. It's because they have a grateful heart for those who visit from afar. We doubly reward those who do us good. There are also cases of the opposite.
@Ayrton Senna well said! In my experience, many Koreans have shown a warm appreciation for foreigners taking an interest in their culture (for the most part!).
There’s so many rules gosh! I’m in college and when me and my mates drink there are usually 2 people who are way more hammered then the rest of us 🫣 it’s actually really interesting to see the differences in cultures even in something as simple as drinking alcohol 😂❤️
That's quite the compliment, and it's deserved - The makers of this show do a wonderful job of highlighting Korean culture and the warmth of the people there 🙂
THIS WAS THE BESTTTT!! i got to learn SOOOO many new things about korean culture! POOR MAX BEING IN SHOCK EVERY TEN SECONDS AND ARMAND JUST CHILLIN & TEASING HIM LOL i'd love to experience this somedayyyy
This episode was so much fun! It's cool that Armand and Max got to really hang out with the Korean uni students. Honestly, drinking with food is so much better than the typical binge drinking we get over here in the UK
I love Max and Armand just attacking and pulling Josh in all directions 😂😂 it’s so wholesome, they’ve definitely been turned into jocks and I’m here for it
When foreigners try to understand Korea through the image of China or Japan, they often inaccurately perceive Korean culture as Collectivism. To be precise, Korean culture is not Collectivism, but rather 'Relationalism' It is an unconscious effort of society members to foster harmonious relationships among individuals. That's why such drinking culture works like this. It is a moment when people quickly try to become close to each other to avoid awkwardness and strive to create 'harmonious relationships' to prevent anyone from feeling isolated.

그럴 거 같아요 ㅋㅋ 다른 친구들도 초대할 거 같고 ㅋㅋ
Im sitting here, 3:46 in the morning watching the video and I'm tearing up. In America I have never had a night that looks as fun as inviting as this one did. I genuinely love the energy and the rules making sure no one is left out to be alone. You have made me want to visit Korea for sure.
맥스랑 아르망 귀국한 다음 친구들에게 술게임 알려줄 상상하니 엄청 웃기네

Max is a certified British. 🎉🎉🎉
One more interesting to mention is that at the game Amand chose, one lady failed, however, 2 gentlemen next to her drank on behalf of her. We call that 'black knight' and it is a kind of courtesy of guys drinking for a lady. 😄
@@Gamesquad8889In Korea, there is a joke-like myth that if you pour or drink alone, the person next to you or the person opposite you will have no luck in dating for years.

The yonsei dance was painful to watch tbh
Max bowing at the table for the cheers was so sweet!! I appreciate him for really trying to understand the culture and be respectful
Yep, he just wants to show respect and make some friends. Very sincere! And he's too funny 😂

제일 기대했던 편이었는데 기대 이상이었어요!! 진짜 정말 즐기고 간게 보여서 너무 기분이 좋아요

Korea i miss u and i wish i could stay longer see u next time
Can't agree more about how underrated it is to eat together, in the Korean way. It's a very nurturing thing!
@@FlavorofMind it surely is! wish they did it here in the netherlands like the koreans do it would be so fun!
