  • Enjoy your ride onboard KCM bus 2636, a 2003 New Flyer DE60LF powered by Allison EP50 hybrid system using a Caterpillar C9 diesel engine! First of all, I apologize for the initial "hiccup" at the very beginning of the video, I was experiencing technical difficulties with my old camera lens used to record this video. Fortunately, this issue only exists in the very beginning part of the video. On this journey, we will be going through the entire length of the underground bus tunnel in downtown Seattle, beginning our journey at Conventional Place Station and ending outside the tunnel, right before approaching Royal Brougham Station.

They switch into "hush" mode when entering the tunnel. I think it's where the engine is running, but only to power the generator and the coach runs off battery power. When it's at the station, all power comes from the batteries and there is no need to keep the engine running. They want to keep the emissions to a bare minimum while in the tunnel. There's a lot of times when the coaches will not re-start as they should and the operator has to switch modes and run the engine like normal anyways.

Can't do this anymore because 1. This route (106) is no longer serving Downtown Seattle (it turns around in the Internatoinal District), 2. the location where the filming first started is now a construction zone and is no longer used by busses, and 3. the entire tunnel will be 'Rail only" on Mach 23, 2019.
