As a Christian, I loved this series because it shows more than one side of the argument, with regards to Faith - and it treats Faith with respect. None of us have the answer.
Sheriff Hassan is a great person, and he is not Christian. Bev Keane is horrible despite how pious and righteous she claims to be.
That’s what I loved about the way this show handled faith. There isn’t a good or bad belief system, it’s what you do with the lessons you learn from it
@@NTWoo95 personally, I believe that Islamic people are our brothers and sisters, we just approach God by different paths. But as for Sherrif Hassan, he was absolutely among the most reasonable and moral characters. The irony of Bev calling him a terrorist after she's burned all the buildings and shot him...well that's what makes her so despicable, that she refuses to see her own evil and doubles down on it. And at first I wanted a worse fate for her. But really, in her last moments of utter terror and despair her faith deserted her, because it was a hypocritical faith - which was the worst fate of all. While at least the townspeople accepted their fate and met it peacefully. We all have to die, dust we are and to dust we return, but Faith helps us meet that end with serenity.

It shows how fast things can go awry when religious fanaticism takes hold. This is not specific to Christianity, but to all religions. In this show it was Christians who were the misguided fanatics, and the Muslim character who was the one with some sense. But in real life we see just as much how Islamic fanaticism does the same thing to people.
If we abandon all reason, religion will steer us wrong. But yes, at the end all relgion was treated with respect, beauty, and forgiveness.

I cried so much at the end of Hill House and Bly Manor... But I was inconsolable as this song played at the end of midnight Mass. I probably cried for a good hour after it ended and had to be by myself for a little bit. As someone who was a member of a cult for a long time, who deconstructed a d left my faith entirely, the series spoke to me I'm both the dangers of fanaticism and also the beauty in faith, even of the faith is something you eventually set aside like Riley did. And that the loss of belief doesn't mean life has to lose meaning.
Personally for me, watching this show and hearing this song makes me think of my grandfather Saul. He passed away from Cancer back when I was 15. He was actually an atheist (like Riley) and when he came down with the Cancer, my mom had to go down to New Jersey to take care of him. But something crazy happened to him. Moments before he died, he got a glimpse of what the other side looked like and he said "Oh my God. I've been an atheist for so long. How could I have not have seen this?" He passed away peacefully. Hearing this song now makes me think of him. I hope that he's watching over me and he's proud of me.

my dad and my grand ma passed away in 2022 same year.. they requested us to sing this in their funerals. i sang it but i wasnt expected so early . grand ma was 83 byt dad was only 51.. may God bless their souls

My goosebumps are going wild
Midnight Mass is by far the the most incredible miniseries I have ever seen, and certainly one of the best television series I have ever seen. So carefully and genuinely crafted from start to finish. And no TV series has ever made me feel the massive swells of emotion that Midnight Mass did. Never saw the ending coming, but I thought it was perfect. Bold and unexpected and heartbreaking.
You can tell when an artist or artists have left a piece of their souls in artwork and this is one. This series is so many things but mostly and inevitably an ode to the beauty and tragedy of humanity and all the parts that make it so. I can’t not cry.

If you loved Midnight Mass, you will love The Leftovers! Give it a try, it's the same kind of deep writing, religious themes and continious mystery that all wraps up beautifully by the end.

I was skeptical at first because im very antireligion and the only reason i turned it on was because of Rahul Kohli the Sheriff. Honestly it is one of the best series Netflicks has ever produced. I am so glad i watched it.

I love how the song ends here: "nearer to ...." (and then nothing, because, who know's) .. we all share this longing for meaning and purpose and fellowship, but we don't quite know how and who .. that is the human condition (if we are honest)

@@DavidAGIII correct on the Titanic it was either the British version used in a night to remember or the Methodist version band leader Wallace Hartley was a Methodist so it's possible that the latter of the two was the one played but we'll never know for sure

@@peervarma It means this: that if my desire is to be nearer to God (which is the point of the song), anything in my life can be used to draw me nearer. I can say yes to even suffering -"(even) e'en a cross (pain/humiliation/powerlessness/death)" as a means to "raise me" or draw me nearer to God. And even in suffering, rather than complaining or accusing God or self-pitying, "still all my song shall be..." that I want to be nearer to God. That's the meaning of the first verse in a nutshell. It makes sense when you consider that the writer of the song, Sarah Flower Adams was at least partially deaf and struggled with chronic illness for most of her life and mourned the loss of most of her family members before her own death at age 43.
I am an agnostic, but if this tune lasted ten seconds longer I would end up converting....

A great series .. I’m just happy that there’s a series showed the hurdles that Muslims face daily in each and every little conversation or incident … it made me emotional and feeling a little bit of justice towards us

As a Catholic, I am glad that you are feeling like you are part of something special. Regardless of our beliefs, what binds us is our search for purpose in life, whether you are non-religious, agnostic, atheist, buddhist, taoist, or whatever you are. Midnight Mass made me embrace all the beautiful ironies of life, such as the fact that we are all here on Earth just to die and turn to sporadic atoms in the gigantic universe. We find purpose in living. We give purpose to other people. Other people also give purpose to us, be it intentional or unintentional.
I personally believe in the afterlife, in the Catholic God, but even for those who do not, I hope you genuinely find your peace with yourself. I hope y'all find your purpose!

The choir singing really makes you feel like you're part of a group, like you are at church with a community. That's what I like about God, He emphasizes communion and sharing in His love. His followers sort of lost the message through the years but I'd like to believe in a God with unconditional, all-ecompassing love

I think the show has incredible worth, Christian-wise. The show ends with a community breaking free of false religion/fanaticism and uniting in song to willingly submit themselves to God's will. Nothing short of heavenly.

But most of the people in the town weren't really that religious to begin with. When people started witnessing miracles they also started justifying everything around it, It was also a reference to the anthichrist in revelations, and it was taunting seeing these horrible things being done in the name of religion like it was done so many times in the past

It is not religion or anything else that is bad. It is fanatism. It is unquestioned loyalty, that leeds to problems. The hunting of hill house is unreachable,but this serie almost did. Beautiful in so many ways.

This scene was so compelling and moving. It showed that man is flawed but God is ever constant. Such a well done movie. Showing so many complex sides to humanity and the question of why we are here in this existence. Of guilt and remorse and forgiveness.
This is not a show about what faith you believe in. Christian, Muslim, non-believer whatever. It’s a show about people that don’t know what happens when we pass away. Riley met his fate with the girl he killed. What happens when YOU die?
For me it was the moment the priest admitted “it wasn’t about anyone else, I didn’t want to die. And I didn’t want you to die, and I didn’t want our daughter (Sarah) to die. If I’m being honest”. He didn’t do it religious he did it for selfish reasons because we all are selfish. Nearer “my god” to thee. I always want to be nearer to “my god” as I see him. Whatever religion that falls into.
Why do people who say they're atheist, agnostic or otherwise irreligious always have to preface their comment with a declaration that they're of that ilk? I mean, God forbid, pardon the expression, I or anyone else would think you a Christian or religious person because of something you wrote! Nor does it add any great emphasis because it's coming from an unbeliever. Mike Flanagan is apparently an atheist. I suppose like Riley in "Midnight Mass," he's studied all the world's religions etc. and come up empty. Rather reminds one of Goethe's Doctor Faustus, doesn't it? Anyway, maybe I should start prefacing my comments on "Midnight Mass" with "As a Christian, ...." Nah.
