Great video! As I mentioned to you before your content has encouraged me to do more solo cruising. This video was accurate to my experience. I think cruising in my new form on self care and I can understand why people find it addicting lol.
Great summary of solo crusing! I can relate to why you started solo raising. My first two cruises were with family and friends. I enjoyed them, but felt restricted by what the group wanted to do. When I solo cruise, I enjoy the freedom and ability to change my mind without debate or anyone getting upset. Although I don't look for cruise buddies on the ship, I enjoy meeting other solos and crossing paths with them throughout the cruise. Great vlog!
I was curious about being a solo cruiser and wanting to stay solo, as a female - an upcoming cruise will be my first for solo travel AND cruising.. So glad to hear you can choose being solo, or finding new friends!

At least you know at a young age how awesome it is - I waited way too long to check out cruising. It’s really a hobby you can grow into at so many different price points and would have been such a fun thing to indulge in back in college when I had friends and acquaintances from the dorms who would have probably been down to accompany me. Once you’re a real adult in the work force, it’s very hard to find people to cruise with if you’re single and all your friends are married or have kids already! None of my friends can ever travel with me during the year because of their kids school schedules, and I can’t afford summer and holiday prices. I would really encourage people to start young if they know they are into it!
I'm so glad you said that NCL lets solo cruisers not in solo cabins be a part of the solo program! I just booked a cruise where the solo cabins were sold out and I was really worried about this very thing. Now I'm even more excited!
They welcome all solo travelers. But only those with a solo cabin can open the door with their room key. Without it, you can just tailgate or knock on the door to get in.
Hey, great video, I’m on my first solo cruise in a few months ( Celebrity Beyond) but I’m now gonna book NCL Epic for later this year because of what I’ve seen on your reviews. Thanks and keep up the good work.
Thanl you! I haven't tried celebrity yet but I have family members who have and they loved it. NCL epic was great and there solos program is huge. Enjoy!
This is so helpful! I’m trying to go on my first solo travel trip this year for my birthday. Trying to choose between a young adult travel group or a cruise.
its interesting that you bring up the point of will i be lonely. my first ever cruise was the carnival radiance 4 night mexican riviera cruise out of LA, it was mine and my husbands honeymoon trip, and ironically about 60 percent of that cruise i spent without him because he just wanted to relax in the stateroom which was fully ok with me, i met people in the bars and clubs, i saw shows and just had a really fun trip. thats why now that "sadly" he and i have parted i am cruising colo because i know i will enjoy it and have a good time. cruising is a bonus for me as a foodie and a trained chef cause i get to experiance all those local flavors from around the world.
Yup. I understand. I only started solo cruising after how my first cruise went. I had more fun when I was doing my own thing versus when I was with my friend who I cruised with. A lot of people think they'll feel lonely and some may. But a majority of people will enjoy that freedom. Cruises usually have an inviting environment.
Hey, just wanted to let you know that I finally made the jump. I booked my western Caribbean cruise today for 2023!!! I'm so excited!! My NCL rep was so patient with me and my billion questions. We devised the exact plan that I wanted for smooth cruising. Since I am flying in, I am coming in a day early and staying at a local hotel (both pre and post trip) with ground transportation both way. I was planning on doing this anyways but when she offered as part of a package, I was all set. I opted out of the drink and dining packages, as that I will never get off the ship if I drank that much. But I did get free excursions and wi-fi. I inquired about bringing some wine and I can bring some wine onboard with me. So that is a WIN-WIN!! Thanks for the videos and the content. Definitely it's going to get me ready for my trip. Passport is already out!!
Congrats!!! That is exciting! I'm glad you had a good experience with customer service, it's almost like a gamble on how your experience will be dealing with them. I agree about the drink package too thats why I no longer get it anymore. The cost for gratuities alone are no longer worth it for me being that I barely get more than 2 drinks a day. I'm really glad to help and I hope you enjoy your cruise! I'll be back on NCL for a Hawaii cruise in 2023 as well.
@@MrBucketlist Cool!! Can't wait to see the video on that trip. Yes, the rep was super awesome and I will definitely book with her again. I have a question for you. I booked my air and hotel for before and after the trip. What are you thoughts and experience if you used NCL for all of that and if not did you just book your flights and hotels yourself? Thanks for your wisdom!!
Sure no problem. Since I live down here in Florida I've never had to use the air package. I've heard both good and bad things about it. Some have said it's super easy and others said the airport couldn't find there reservations when they got there. I would recommend it now though with the way airports are because it puts the responsibility primarily on the cruise line if something where to happen. Thanks again!
Great video! Thank you. Could you do an updated one focusing on hidden costs, packages ie wifi, drinks etc.. And excursions: rules regulations costs etc..
You're welcome! Yeaaaaa it's a thing. I found out back in 2019 but it's becoming more and more popular. I'm on my 10th and final solo cruise right now and it's been amazing.
I am a woman in my fifties, passionate about cruises. I have always sailed with my family. After struggling with feelings of guilt, remorse, fear, and shame, I have finally brought myself the courage to sail alone. And then an emotion and an inner strength arose that I had never experienced before. Already with a cruise booked, last minute problems have thwarted my plans. And I have turned my solo into a mother and daughter. But I will enjoy it anyway and I know my solo cruise is just waiting and it will be sooner rather than later.
@@bardenmixersarmy7970 I found time for everything. It was a fantastic cruise, I shared many activities with my daughter and I was also able to enjoy evenings with other solo travelers
I really enjoyed your video. I leave on an Alaska cruise in a little over a week with a girlfriend. My first solo cruise will be in 2024 round trip from San Francisco to Hawaii on the Crown Princess. I’m 68 and while I enjoy being around people my own age I also enjoy being around younger crowds, who energize me. I’m solo since my husband passed almost 16 months ago. I’m ready for adventure!
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I loved my Alaska cruise so much. I'm sure you'll have a great time. I agree. I just hosted a group cruise and my friends ages ranged 62-68 and they had a really good time. Enjoy your future cruises!
I have cruised many times but never solo. But I do agree that a solo travel will free you up to do more. I recall an experience in Honduras when family members were not sold on the idea to visit the local areas where the locals live. I had to defy the majority opinion and went alone; and it was the most enjoyable and satisfying experience of the entire cruise trip. Regarding travel agencies: All 17 of the cruises and related flights I have taken over the years (so far) were booked through Expedia. This is because somehow, when a carrier's website said, "sold out," Expedia was able to coordinate and get me on flights and cruises that were said to be fully booked. Don't ask me how. lol
Yup I agree that's how I got my start as well I'm glad you enjoyed your experience. Ironically Expedia is the only form of travel agency I've used and still use to this day. The way that works is airlines, hotels and car rentals reserve things ahead of time for them so even when it says sold out, it's not really until it's booked via there services. I had a rep tell me one time when I filed a complaint lol.
Princess has solo / single cruiser meet ups as well. No designated crew member but if groups want to book dinners it's easy to coordinate after the first night.
On one of my NCL cruises, a show was completely booked. Well, our Solo Coordinator took care of that! She escorted us and we were seated IN FRONT of The Haven passengers! She knocked the ball out of the park!
That is amazing!!! That's exactly how mines was, both of them! I love how the program is free of charge, versus the ridiculous cost of the haven. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you! The only line that has an official nightly meet-up is NCL to my knowledge. I experienced it about a month ago and it was pretty good. They always had a table ready for us no matter what time we all made it down.
Hello there it's cool to see your videos . My fav traveler was AB and since his traggick passing I had lost that motivation to be a real traveler explorer and life enthusiast . I drive truck coast to coast and life takes another turn and I do find myself more then every ready to do a solo cruise . Your vids are are really indepth and always enjoying a drink . You have reminded me what I would really enjoy . But so many choices ???
Im sorry to hear that about AB. You definitely should try a solo cruise, especially if you already drive a truck, it would be a nice change of pace. The only time I drink on is on vaction lol. Thank you by the way!
I've done over 10 cruises, but never solo. I may book a solo cruise for December. I have done mostly solo travel to over 20 countries and have loved each trip!
Thank you for doing the leg work for us fellow solo cruisers. Your video made me feel less apprehensive with being on a large ship in the middle of an ocean alone.
Very informative and interesting. Thank you! I'm going on my first solo cruise with Celebrity next year travelling from the UK, and I'm thinking of doing a Vlog. Any tips on vlogging? 😊
You're welcome. Thank you! As far as vlogging, you'll see that it keeps you busy. Versus when you're not vlogging you'll stay stationary for a lot longer if you weren't vlogging. Have fun with it!
Thank you! I have an entire solo cruise documentary to Alaska on my channel. Check it out! I've only booked a cruise once while on a cruise ship. It wasn't as beneficial as they made it to be. I'll probably not do it again.
Enjoyed your video. I will be doing my first cruise and it will be solo on NCL so watching your videos is homework for me on what to expect. I’m choosing solo because I’m single and my kids are adults and I don’t wanna wait for people to travel. I wanna get out and live life and see things. I’m not sure if I really want to meet people on the cruise but if they say hi & bye I’m good with that. I just wanna do me and find ways to enjoy my time. My cruise will be 7 days and it’s costing me $2k. I really don’t like travel past 4 days and 3 nights but hey I have time so what the heck 7 days it is! I’m gonna be watching all your videos and even subscribe because after this trip I’ll probably be an official solo traveler
I'm glad to help! I agree with you 100%. I don't had any kiddos but my old travel buddies acted like kids so I went solo and never went back, in regards to cruising, It's nothing like it. I think 7 days is the sweet spot. Welcome to the channel and enjoy your cruise!
No travel agents here either bro. Just removed guest #2 off Harmony. Last cruise was a bad experience thanks to guest #2. Trying the solo thing now! YAY. Nobody else is invited, they can get their own stateroom and get it booked, whatever LOL!
Thank you! UA-cam and more importantly it's algorithm has intentionally kept my channel and others stagnant and its decreasing my views and reach. This potentially is my last year on the platform.
@@MrBucketlist That’s crazy. Why would they not help people grow their channel? Mind boggling to me. I thought your video was done right and will be checking out more of them. I’m planning on going solo to the Mediterranean next year and need all the tips I can get. Glad I met you!
Great video! I've been solo cruising for 40 years. I'm now one of the 'older' solos... I never know that about NCL.I've never sailed with them. Do they have a singles director on every ship?
Thank you! So before the pandemic they did, then after the pandemic they took it away, now I believe it is being added back in to all ships. It's a great program.
First time viewer. New subscriber!! I have some binge watching to do before asking any questions… This video covered pretty much everything for solo traveling. Ok, just one question. Do you speak other languages? If not, how do you interact on cruises where English isn’t spoken by everyone?
Welcome to the channel. Good question. The only language I'm fluent in is english, I know a little bit of French though. I rarely run into people that don't speak any English. It's only happened one time on my second solo cruise. It was this lady I kept running into but she couldn't speak English and I couldn't speak Portuguese. We just kind of chilled together, but never really held a convo (I met her in the hotub). You shouldn't have a problem.
@@MrBucketlist Thank you for the info. I’m one of the older solo travelers, 57, that have nothing but time on my hands and can travel at least once every 2-3 months. I’d like to mix in some cruises. I haven’t been on one in years. But it was great. Thanks again. Have a good week.
I'm still trying to figure out which line would be best. I was thinking about MSC but Norweigan is on my list. Funny enough, I've done all my cruises in groups so this will be fun I am sure.
I would recommend NCL over MSC unless you want an isolated solo cruise. Msc didn't have much for solos period besides good pricing. Either way you can't go wrong they'll just be different experiences
When you book a room for 2 people to save as a solo traveler, what do you do about putting in person #2s information? That’s where I’m getting stumped. Thanks!!! Great vid ☺️
You're welcome, thank you! What most people do is put a relative or friend's name down, then they can remove it after the booking. Each cruise line is different through so I would check directly with them first.
Good video. Question, I'm a 46 from Puerto Rico, living in Florida, never been on a cruise, would MSC be a good choice? Most likely I'll be Solo cruising. Thank you for any feedback.
Thank you. I would recommend it and I would go on another MSC cruise in a heartbeat. They alot more relaxed than other lines but there prices and value cant be beat.
is there any particular reason you haven't used a travel agent? just curious. i will be a first time cruiser this year, and solo. i've traveled extensively, but never a cruise, and never with an agent.. but i hear with cruises, it's worth checking out. as i haven't used one yet myself, i'm curious why you haven't as well. ty for your video!
You're welcome! So as of the recording of this video I had never used a travel just because I honestly didn't understand what advantages they could provide me with, if any. But with that said I have recently used one to get booked on the Inaugural of Icon of the Seas and I see the advantages a little bit better. They do provide group rates on cruises and can do all the legwork for you if you have issues, that what makes them advantageous for cruise ships. Thanks again
@@MrBucketlist ty for the response! I am such a planner, and can get caught up in the details; it's nice to hear your update! I guess I caught this video just at the right time! Ty again! Xx
I found if you are single and go with a group you know you will feel like a third wheel, doing activities you friends want to do. I did NCL solo cruse had a great time they meet before dinner and ate as a group. You ended up meeting allot of other solo travelers that you did things with. If you are social the ship is tight so you will end you will end up meeting allot of people, it was strainge allot of people on ship whould know me and i had meet so many people i would not even remember them. i don't remember anyone asking me why i was solo. Most people told me why they were traveling solo, I did not ask. most people ask you where you are from and where you work or what you do.
I also would not do extra premium dinning. the meals were slow. about 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hours and just felt like leaving i sat there waiting for food most of the time.
I booked a cruise on Norwegian sky they don't have solo cabins on that ship so I got a ocean view room for 1800 for 9 nights with unlimited drinks not too bad April 26th to May 5th
Im.a solo traveler but I haven't solo cruised yet. I'm childfree and I prefer being with at least other adults. But I do have a question. I don't think you touched on this. For budgeting purposes, how much does each excursions cost? When I travel on land, I like to do a bunch of different things I can't so in my city. Just to give me an idea of how much to budget for.
When it comes to excursions the price range can vary quite a bit. On my last cruise for example my cheapest excursion was $40 and my most expensive was over $600. It just depends what you want to do. Generally my excursions average about 70-100 bucks per port.
@@MrBucketlist Thanks for the tip. Gives me an idea what I want to set aside for. My plan is not to come home with extra payments. Don't want to be eating Ramen for six months paying off my vacation.
There is a balcony room on NCL that is $1400 and a studio for $1100, Is it worth to upgrade as solo? Can I access the solo lounge like people in the studio rooms? Thanks
It just really depends on how much time you plan to spend in your room. To me balconies are really necessary. You can easily get that view from almost anywhere on the ships upper decks. Yes anyone can access the lounge just ask someone to open the door for you.
These all apply to senior solo travelers as well. On all of my cruises the majority of solo travelers are senior citizen/retirees and I usually have a really good time with them all.
Mr. Bucket list - tell me. I don't drink and I don't dance and I'm not interested in meeting other "Solos" of any age or gender. Can I be left to my own devices?
Absolutely. I had an entire cruise on MSC (I made a review about it) where the only people I truly interacted with was crew. You can dine, watch shows, do anything by yourself and be left alone easily.
Gee, thanks Mr. BL - you've been a big help. I'm in New York. What about those little "cruises to nowhere" or are they just things for singles looking for eachother - in which I have no interest

Oh cool! I'm glad I can help. Either way it should be a good time.
Thank you so much for all yr info. I'm a solo traveler, and yr info is very helpful ❤
You're welcome!!!
Solo cruising in Oct 2022.
Thanks much! Currently starting to plan for a solo Alaska cruise next year.
You're welcome. If you haven't seen my full Solo Alaska Cruise Documentary I highly recommend it. It was a great time.
its interesting that you bring up the point of will i be lonely. my first ever cruise was the carnival radiance 4 night mexican riviera cruise out of LA, it was mine and my husbands honeymoon trip, and ironically about 60 percent of that cruise i spent without him because he just wanted to relax in the stateroom which was fully ok with me, i met people in the bars and clubs, i saw shows and just had a really fun trip.
thats why now that "sadly" he and i have parted i am cruising colo because i know i will enjoy it and have a good time.
cruising is a bonus for me as a foodie and a trained chef cause i get to experiance all those local flavors from around the world.
Yup. I understand. I only started solo cruising after how my first cruise went. I had more fun when I was doing my own thing versus when I was with my friend who I cruised with. A lot of people think they'll feel lonely and some may. But a majority of people will enjoy that freedom. Cruises usually have an inviting environment.
Such great information. Thank you!
You're welcome!
Thank you for a great informative video!
You're welcome!
Great overview
Thank you!
Thank you! Absolutely. I've been wanting to make an update to this now that I've done so many. Those are some good ideas. Thank you again.
Really enjoyed the video
Thank you
I love this! Thank you for the video! Great info. I am going to be a first time solo cruiser. I didnt know this was an actual thing.
You're welcome! Yeaaaaa it's a thing. I found out back in 2019 but it's becoming more and more popular. I'm on my 10th and final solo cruise right now and it's been amazing.
I appreciate the video. I may have to do at least 1 solo cruise. 😊
You're welcome! I highly recommend trying to it at least one time. Be warned though, its addictive lol
Thanks for the video, very informative!!!
You're welcome! Glad to help.
Thank you for all your work! Gen X’r here:) looking forward to SC’ng and now you have a sub….will be watching for your content:)
You're welcome, thank you! Welcome to the channel.
Going on my 1st solo cruise November 26th 6 day Carnival Magic out of Miami..got a nice deal in a Cloud 9 Spa Balcony
Congrats! I heard that's a fun ship. That's great you got a good deal around that time too, it's usually expensive. Have a good cruise!
Yea you'll have fun. It's more intimidating to think about than when you are actually on it. It'll be a freeing experience. Enjoy it!
Went on solo cruse last year, taking my daughter this year solo cabins higher than inner double..can still meet with solo group
@@bardenmixersarmy7970
I found time for everything.
Planned my solo with NSC Divina in Oct 2022.
Have a great cruise!
Great video, btw!
Great review! Going on my 2nd solo this month.
Thank you! Oh thats cool! I'll be on a few more by the end of this year.
Great video lots of good info
Thank you bro.
Great information
I'm glad to help!
Awesome information! Thanks
Your welcome!
GREAT VIDEO! So informative. You literally answered every question I had
Thank-you. I'm glad I could help!
Great video! Great info! Thanks bro! Never been on a solo cruise before but you make it seem like a really good idea!
I would definitely recommend it to anyone. Thank you!!
Excellent video, sir. You’ve inspired me. 🦾
Thank you, glad to help!
Princess has solo / single cruiser meet ups as well. No designated crew member but if groups want to book dinners it's easy to coordinate after the first night.
That's good to know! Someone recently recommend that I try them out.
Thanks for the video! I’m going on my first solo cruise on NCL next month. The room tour was helpful to consider packing.
Your welcome! Enjoy your cruise.
Indeed, my experiences as a solo traveler are very similar to yours.
Great to hear!
Why the fudge do you not have more subs?! This was an outstanding vid brother! Very informative.
Lol. It happens I'm used to it, but thank you brother!
Hey man! Which cruise lines have dinner meetups for solo cruisers? Love the content!!
Thank you! The only line that has an official nightly meet-up is NCL to my knowledge. I experienced it about a month ago and it was pretty good. They always had a table ready for us no matter what time we all made it down.
Thanks for this video 👍🏾
Your welcome!
I am considering taking my first solo leave from Australia for the South Pacific area.
You should definitely do it. It'll be a great time.
Thanks going on my first solo on the Encore thus coming month.
You're welcome! Enjoy your cruise.
I've done over 10 cruises, but never solo. I may book a solo cruise for December. I have done mostly solo travel to over 20 countries and have loved each trip!
That's great to hear. Solo cruising is great as well.
Thank you for doing the leg work for us fellow solo cruisers. Your video made me feel less apprehensive with being on a large ship in the middle of an ocean alone.
You're welcome! It can be overwhelming at first but eventually you'll realize it's potentially one of the best vacations you'll ever have.
@MrBucketlist many thanks! I will certainly try 😊
Great tips 👌🏽 And yeah I’m not one to use a travel agent either although I would find them useful if a big group of us is going.
Thank you! I agree they can be helpful for group rates and things like the but there almost useless when it comes to solo travelers.
I’m going on my first solo cruise May 2025 with NCL Aqua. I booked a studio cabin.
Congrats. That ship looks beautiful. Enjoy it!
I truly enjoyed all your tips, I am thinking of going to Alaska do you have any suggestions? Also, do you ever book a cruise while you are cruising?
I’m doing my first carnival cruise and solo at that next year December
Have a great cruise!
@@MrBucketlist thank you
Thanks for adding content for solo travellers!
Your welcome!
No travel agents here either bro. Just removed guest #2 off Harmony. Last cruise was a bad experience thanks to guest #2. Trying the solo thing now! YAY. Nobody else is invited, they can get their own stateroom and get it booked, whatever LOL!
That's how to to do it! Lol
Great video Mr. Buckletlist. Very helpful information. Just curious, why did you say UA-cam doesn't like you at the end of this video?
@@MrBucketlist
Thank you for the info.
@@MrBucketlist I'm on it! Thanks for the feedback. Seems like that's more my style appreciate the info.
@@MrBucketlist Thanks so much for responding! Will do; I'm planning on cruising on Royal Caribbean!
If I have late dining and I’m solo, will I share a table with ppl?? Or will I be by myself ??
Can you take your plate of food back to your room and eat? Or is it just snacks?
Yea you can take anything back to your room.
That's good to hear! NCL is still the best when it comes to solo cruising. Everyone is really friendly. The dining can vary.
I booked a cruise on Norwegian sky they don't have solo cabins on that ship so I got a ocean view room for 1800 for 9 nights with unlimited drinks not too bad April 26th to May 5th
No that's not bad at all. NCL sky was the first cruise ship I ever sailed on. Have a great time!
Hey, If I pick late dining and I’m a solo cruiser, will I be at a table with other singles?? Or have a table by myself ?? (Carnival)
I've never done carnival, but from my friends experience they tried to seat her with random people (non solos). She had to ask for a table by herself.
How you travel monthly? What type of job you got?
I don't work.
@@MrBucketlist how that work?
Do you have to pay extra for a balcony?
You do. Depending on the ship they can be a few hundred to over $1000 USD additional.
I'm 66 years old. Are other cruisers trying to avoid me? People are people. What is so toxic about us OLD people?
I'm ok with paying double occupancy, but I'm not 2 people eating. We should get a discount for that.
I agree. I think its funny how some cruise lines are limiting people to just one entree now, even solos who paid a double fare. Its a con game.
V V has No single supplement deals a few times during the year
That's very true. I show cased my virgin solo cruise and cabin on this channel.
@@MrBucketlist AWESOME...I plan to do the same when I go on my first VV solo cruise which will hopefully be in February for my B.Day.
What about single senior travelers?
These all apply to senior solo travelers as well. On all of my cruises the majority of solo travelers are senior citizen/retirees and I usually have a really good time with them all.
I desire a balcony room and want to go on a Holland Trip so if you know any solo supplement discount with them let me know. Thanks
I don't know much about Holland America, but they usually have labor day sales with lower to no single supplement. Check it out.
@@MrBucketlist do I have to tip people and pay for food?
Nope. Everything is included. You just have to pay gratuities which is usually included in your fare when you first book.
Gee, thanks Mr. BL - you've been a big help. I'm in New York. What about those little "cruises to nowhere" or are they just things for singles looking for eachother - in which I have no interest
Awesome, I had booked my 1st solo cruise trip for 2024 for my 50th. I went on the Carnival cruise with some friends and I agree with you on doing a solo trip. Cause I had dealt with people who were either afraid to adventure out of their elements or tricks you into doing something else. I started following you as you give out some tips and reviews as a solo cruiser. Appreciated a whole lot.
Thank you for sharing! I’m slowly building courage to solo travel. Your research is helping me gain knowledge of what to do and not to do. 🧳
You're welcome!
