What a strange journey it was until this finally got an english translation. This game has a lot of good and interesting ideas and I enjoyed my time with it. Started with persona 5 and have now played almost every Megaten series games that were translated in English excluding some of the spin-offs.
What's the best way to play most though? I played everything aviable on switch, vita, 3ds and Ps4 but there is a huge amount I can't even get like SMT 1 and 2, demi kids or Majin tensei. I wish they would release a big collection or series of collections on all relevant platforms since it's so tiresome to actually get these games.
@@brotbrotsen1100 The best way is to either have a modded console with those games if they have fan translations or have a pc made in the last decade or so that can emulate them. I have all the official megaten releases in English with the exception of the Persona dancing games, demikids and SMT 1 on IOS since it doesnt work and has been removed from the store. But, I was able to play the fan translations of SMT 1 and 2, Majin tensei series, Last bible series, SMT If..., etc. on my laptop and desktop. A lot of their older games have been re-released digitally many times over either on PS3 store or even SMT 1 on the nintendo switch online snes lineup, but there is no effort to translate these unless they either do a collection, remaster or remake them.
I congrat you for talk about SMT games. I've a channel for spanish talkers and the latin community, about SMT and Persona. I salute you good sir! hahah HEE HOO
It was a good video! I liked it! But there were two points that stood out to me Demon Negotiation: You can only recruit a specific set of demon races and have to fuse the rest. An NPC in the first dungeon gives you a list. But yeah classic smt is weird with the demon negotiation for sure since it's mostly rng based which is uh...kinda cool but often frustrating. I also think levels has something to do with it, but don't hold that as fact. Guardians: Surprised you didn't mention how useless they felt since a lot of their skills are completely unusable on the mc like Heatwave/Deathbound or whatever. They could've been cool, but I guess they ddin't know how to implement it. Btw, how Guardians work is also explained by an NPC in the first dungeon.
They should do a complete next gen remake of if and make it similar to devilman crybaby. A bunch of teens getting demonic powers and having mental breakdowns. I know devil survivor is already like that but this is different.
@@Zyraizo I believe that in Nocturne the outcome of the conversation is decided by the game even before you actually choose what you want to say to a demon. It's THAT frustrating.
Not completely. Theres an rng element but its easier the higher the MC's intelligence stat is. But theres no real reason to level int up other than that.
Well really Persona isn't nessecasrily a spinoff? More of like a continuation. It has multiple element's and characters that appeared in SMT: IF... in the series For example Tamaki appears in persona 2 at the Kuzunoha agency. A Devil summoner character appears aswell as the chief of the Kuzunoha Detective agency.
My best proud in my life was finishing this game. O did Reiko's path and start the smt 1 and i just arrived in Tokyo Destinland. I think if is more difficult than the first because is more hard to persuade demons, to doing hinokagatsuji, to getting level. The first i thinking the random encounter is worst than the if. But this history is more interesting than the first and than the nocturne.
I really liked SMT I and II, - I've played through SMT I both Law and Chaos routes. I mean, I don't like Neutral paths in SMT games since I find them cliche. However, I dropped SMT If by the third dungeon, and not because of their complexity - I really don't mind that, but because this game also has one new feature that is super frustrating IMO. Namely that is you can only attack with magic from back row - I don't remember if I had guns at that point, but that was really something I couldn't get over. Maybe I'll try it some other time again
holy shit dude you spent over 10 minutes and skipped over the questions at the beginning of the game which determine the protagonist 's sex and also starting stats? (Reiko is not the very beginning of the game. Nova/the fortuneteller is the beginning of the game). that makes SMT if... stand out more than any other feature (especially with SMT/Persona sexist history of lacking the option to choose either a male or female protagonist). See this video just goes to show its a mistake for Atlus to keep leaving female protagonist out of the SMT/Persona equation. Not giving the player the option to choose protagonist's sex really limits these series potential, appeal and demographics. Atlus really is getting away with their sexist habits only pandering to male power fantasy while just treating females like either sex objects or enemies in almost all of their games, not in the lead spot. there hasnt been a SMT/Persona game with female MC since SMT NINE/P3Portable.
First if Atlas doesn't want to put a female protagonist that doesn't mean the company is sexist and second persona 4 and 5 can't work with a female protagonist

I like If's character design, the story and gameplay? Not so much
It'd be nice to see a more fleshed out remake at some point
SMT I-2 and IF's demon negotiation system is complete RNG. It's also RNG in Nocturne iirc.
Ah if it is, I wouldn't be surprised since I spent some time running through every conversation and still didn't really get is.

Its the continuation of a spinoff, so i guess thats why its considered a spinoff.
It's mostly a spin off as a franchise, not a story.
Persona is it's own franchise in the megaten whole, meanwhile if... is mainline SMT.
But the references stop at 3 iirc, i think you only have a reference to p3 in p4 but nothing about the older games get mentioned.
