- EA Sports UFC 5 reviewed on PlayStation 5 by Tanner Smith.
EA Sports UFC 5 is the best MMA game yet. Its next-gen presentation and refreshed mechanics are a dramatic improvement over previous games in the series, allowing for a more seamless and exciting recreation of the sport. The new damage system makes adjusting your strategy mid-fight more involved with plenty of risk-versus-reward decisions, making both offline and online modes all the more enjoyable and replayable. Career Mode has been fine tuned with welcome lifestyle improvements and a deeper story with Coach Davis. UFC 4 may have been the best MMA game mostly due to lack of competition, but UFC 5 stands a class above it, earning that title on its own merits as both an amazing sports simulation game and fighting game alike.

I've played every UFC game and honestly there's no way this is 9 out of 10.😮😮😮😮. They removed so much goods out of the UFC games over the years

Besides graphics and some visual improvements like new bruises and cuts there is nothing so different and impressive in this game. Actually many people agree that it’s total garbage. Undisputed 3 is the best and after that almost all mma games are not worth mentioning.

There's NO NEW FIGHTERS!! imagine if Madden had all the same people as last year. Only new things are dr stoppages, grappling and replays. All of which undisputed 3 in 2010 was doing. The career mode looks exactly like ufc 4. Coach davis and backyards..To give this a 9 is literally unbelievable

They need to bring back the “After KO” ground and pound. When you knock your opponent out cold the game makes you automatically walk away, you used to be able to ground and pound finish them after they were already out cold. They need to bring that back, and consistent elbows in ground and pound

UFC Undisputed 3 and EA UFC 2-4 are all arguably better than this, especially in this state. And those games did not get 9s.
Well undisputed 3 did actually, but it is definitely better than this. The others are arguable. (It is a common sentiment that EA has failed to best a bankrupt company's attempt at an MMA game for over a decade.)

Also games like madden and nhl still receive monthly roster updates this game doesn’t even have the bare minimum. They should have given also given fighters individual guarding stances. You're both holding block a lot of the time, but everyone has the same static upper body guarding stance 🙇🏻♂🙇🙇♀ like someone imitating a t-rex. Literally no one stands like that in the ufc, ever. Even UFC 1 and 2 had proper peakaboo guard when some guys held block. It just totally takes the personality and realism out when both players are holding block and both fighters are floating around the cage with the same raptor dino arms. So goofy looking .

5:47 - what?? Only way you should be failing the evasion challenges is when the CPU takes long stretches of time not throwing any strikes for you to evade. In one of my sessions there was about 20-25 seconds without a response, CPU just took jabs and danced around without throwing back 🙃

I'm guessing the reviewer isn't down for grappling much has he barely even mentioned the new seamless submission system... or else he probably would have also made a point that over half of the submission moves that were present in UFC 3 and 4 are entirely absent in this new game. Its a decent grappling system as long as you don't care about the finer points of Jiu Jitsu.

@aynrandom3004 to be fair, UFC 1, 2 and 3 all felt and played very differently from each other. This is very much just an updated version of UFC 4. this feels just like 4 with a few new tweaks and additions. Nothing compared to how differently the original 3 felt from each other.

They need to bring the ufc 4 controls back why is the original uppercut input changed? It was perfect as it is
So nothing changed, they added some extra cutscenes to story mode. Added that you could get cut and match will be stopped. For the rest it's pretty much the same, fighters move cluncky and slow no way near the real fighters.

ufc 5 definitley is a major improvement over 4. better mechanics, the graphics of course from frostbite, the M for mature rating, and the career mode was way better!

The game is total garbage and a waste of money guys. If you still have PS3 enjoy UFC undisputed 3 , because it’s the best mma game ever and still better tjen any other EA mma game.
