I think birth photography would be the best “job” ever! My daughter recently had a baby and I wish we had had a photographer there. That’s the most precious moment of a women’s life and should be captured.
I’m relatively new to newborn photography and had the opportunity to attend a birth to photograph it recently, admittedly I haven’t really put myself out there but I can’t imagine how I would be able to practice this type of photography without quitting my day job first And managing how to create a schedule without double booking while still having enough clients to have a decent income is daunting
That's a totally valid concern because of course we want to be there for our clients! Let me ask you this, what would it look like if you kept your day job, had quality reliable backup photographers and explained the situation to your clients? Maybe even let them meet the backup?
I'm on board with specializing in births! The hard part is my husband doesn't understand the importance of having a niche. While he's superrr supportive he thinks i should rebrand my signs, etc. While I'm totally against it, I wonder if he has a point that when some people see my "birth videography and photography" signs they instantly think ewwww crowning!
Hey, I totally get that. My husband was the same way! He used to think I was limiting myself by specializing. Until I proved him wrong ;) My husband was also being supportive and trying to help! The more people see birth photography, the more they'll stop thinking "ewwww crowning!"
@@taviaredburn that's my goal to prove him wrong haha! I'll drag my husband to farmers' markets with me to advertise my business and if i need to go to the bathroom he's stuck there alone... and receives so many strange looks! haha so now I just make sure I go before the event! Yea i want people to see my business name and think "birth" oh yea!
In response to your question, it IS scary but more so because I have a busy life and I don't want to work at the hospital 100 hours a month. BIrth photography is probably the MOST unpredictable of all genres.
Alyssa Shearer hey Alyssa thanks for the idea!! This is something we teach inside our certification program which will be open again in the spring of 2020! Here is the waitlist if you’re interested :) bit.ly/tbib-waitlist

I’m currently a newborn photographer and I love love love it! So I know capturing births would be that much more amazing.
And this is why I have my website all birth. I specialize in birth's and that is where my heart is!!
Brooke Flanagan Photography yes and yes!! 😍❤️
I'm feel so good about finally making the decision to do birth photography!!!
Yay! What a great feeling right!! :) Excited for you!
I never thought about how much time it takes to shoot a new or different genre. Wow! Mind-opening!!
Right!! So glad you had a lightbulb moment💡 ! It was eye opening for me too

You're absolutely right, it is! However, we've been averaging about 5-6 hours at births - which is less than most people spend at weddings!
What lens do you recommend for birth photography??
Tiffany Brewley hey! I use my 35mm 1.4L ii almost exclusively at births.
can you make a video strictly about using a flash?

Speaking of posting photos of births, how did you go about that with the client? Did you have to get their permission to post the photos?
Hey! Yes, we get verbal and written permission from our clients before sharing their images online!

I’m so excited, but scared because of my lack of experience 🥲
