Strangely enough, I can't remember exactly when my parents got it for the house, I just remember that one we got it, it got heavy playtime, along with Chrono Trigger
Criminally underrated title. First played Illusion of Gaia when I was 7. It was incredible then, and it still holds up. Top quality art and music, and like you said, a very accessible game for action RPG newbies (like me, when I was 7, haha).
I’m from Guatemala, I got this game in 2002, I did not know any English by the time, and I struggled a lot to understand what to do. Took me a couple of months to realize how to play it. Now it’s my favorite game
i love Illusion of Gaia! It’s such a great game but I think the developer Quintet REALLY made their mark with IoG’s successor, Terranigma. For my money, Terranigma is the best action rpg on the SNES, definitely recommend it for any fans of Illusion of Gaia
Illusion of Gaia still one of those games that's up there with link to the past Mario world and all the other times I remember playing it as a kid on my super Nintendo definitely one that I'm surprised hasn't made it on to the Nintendo switch online since square made it
To be fair, Quintet and Enix (pre-Square merger) made Illusion of Gaia, so I'm not surprised it ain't made it to Switch Online yet. It was more of a cult classic back in the day, but I loved it.
@@RobRegal no you're right I knew it was squared somehow but you're right it was before they merged but still they own the rights to it I'm just surprised that they haven't put it on the service yet
@@DudeWheresMyCardz yep, depending on the country you live in, it was '93 or '94. I actually just played through this again on stream here on the channel a couple weeks ago.
@@RobRegal oh absolutely. I think the reason this game and some of the ones you mentioned are so great is because of their adult themes. Like you go into the game looking to simulate an adventure you get to embark on and just like any real adventure you will encounter genuine hardship and it really makes you feel things. Yet you sit back and you’re like, “wtf this is just a cartoonish looking video game with little sprites on the screen. But like a book, your brain fills in the gaps. I think a lot of modern games are heavily lacking in that emotional element. The last modern game I really enjoyed was RE7 and RE8.
This game's music is entirely on another level. It's one of the earlier games I played that I would call an experience over simply being a game.
It's one of my absolute favorites! I could never defeat Dark Gaia as a teenager, but finally, at the tender age of 41, I beat it 🤣
I absolutely loved playing this game!!
I halfway wanna play it again, not gonna lie
@@RobRegal same lol
Probably my favorite Christmas gift I ever received was this game
Definitely in my top 5 Christmas gifts as well!
i remember my parents buying me this game on christmas. one of the best games i ever played. such beautiful memories.
Strangely enough, I can't remember exactly when my parents got it for the house, I just remember that one we got it, it got heavy playtime, along with Chrono Trigger
I beat this game for the first time last month and without giving anything away, the ending was so beautiful it made me cry
@@richarddavis8863 definitely one of my favorite video game endings of all time!
This game, man. I’m not going to say that no other game has hit these notes, but few have hit so many, so well, in such a small space.
I agree, they made a lowkey masterpiece
This game was apart of my childhood as well, I just started watching a walkthrough on it again
Definitely a classic. I think I might play it one more time this year and do a full video on my thoughts about it.
@@RobRegal if you do a walkthrough or something I will watch
I played it for the first time with a CRT shader and composite video filter and it was amazing. It adds a lot of detail and really enhances the image
Might have to try that one day!
I’m playing this game now after beating soul blazer, love these games!
@@Nina52117 shoot, you're better than me because I couldn't make it through Soul Blazer lol

Fully agreed, and definitely holds up today. We recently just streamed a full playthrough as we tried out the full Quintet trilogy!

THIS IS CONTENTTTT
More on the way!
Game is fire, much like the fire you set that hunter on.
😂😂😂
Top 10 for sure
Fully agreed

Because they know if they give us Illusion of Gaia on NSO, they gotta give us Xenogears on PS Plus 😂
Loved this game... won it like 5 times
I see you homie!!!
Yeah, trying something new!
I feel like I missed out here, I only had a Sega. This looks way ahead of it's time. I think I read it was released in '94.

Yeah I’m definitely gonna play this game one day… I’m afraid of the puzzles though
Puzzles? Ah you'll be fine. This joint ain't got many of those at all. It's pretty straightforward
GOAT
Definitely up there!
10 out of 10.

Listen to this voiceover work.
That Shure SM7B is amazing, ain't it? lol

One of my favorite games of all time, hands down
