  • Take a dive with our Corps of Exploration as we visit Unnamed Seamount B about 150 miles west of Kauaʻi and witness colorful coral and sponge communities complete with brittle stars, hydroids, Foraminifera, and more. This highlight reel demonstrates the interconnectedness of reef animals as it zooms in on an old sponge stalk heavily occupied by a plethora of underwater creatures including predatory sea stars and well-established corals. Watch the full video for splendid footage of backward-swimming eels, pouty anglerfish, carnivorous sponges and even a sea cucumber known as the “headless chicken” spotted during the Luʻuaeaahikiikekualonokai expedition.
Located south of the Hawaiian Islands, the seamounts may hold key information to deepen our understanding of Hawaiʻiʻs volcanic history. Moreover, like a kualono, or ridge that offers protection to those within its domain, the Chautauqua seamounts offer important marine habitats that protect various ocean organisms. What a fantastic way to end our 2021 expedition season!

Another wonderful film. Back in the early 70's, when I was minoring in paleo at UC Berkeley, they had some forams that had been brought back in an aquarium. Seeing the particles outward and inward bound on the tentacles was an aha experience for me about the amazing ingenuity of life, even at the unicellular level.
Keep up the good work. Cheers from sunny Vienna, Scott

Yea thats a good idea its a little bit harder i would imagine on these highlights since they are just going off of clips from the dive so having one where they mention the 10cm apart thing and a good shot isn't always as easy to find i would imagine but would be useful and definitely the depth would be nice to include in the description at the very least.

Hi EV'Nautilus team. I've been following your channel for long and I absolutely love your videos. I have a query, see I'm waiting for the time when you guys explore all the seamounts of Lu'uaeaahikiikekualonokai that you talked about before starting this expedition. So, my question is, will you guys upload the videos periodically as you move along with the expedition or will we have to wait till you explore all the seamounts
and then you'd upload them all together ? I'm asking because I seriously can't (don't wanna) wait as it's been long since your last expedition and I've like almost memorized those videos. Please upload them as you go along with the exploration, yours viewers (specially I) simply cannot get enough of your content. Much love ❤️

    • @connorjohnson4402

Not a coral but a carniverous sponge they said cladorhizid which id the group name and the vibrating was from when it was being held in the vehicles arm when they collected it and the red thing at the end is a sea cucumber named Enypniastes common named as a headless chicken. You can see it begin to eat unfortunately the clip cut outs a little early because its pretty cool to watch them shoving the little armfuls of sediment in their mouths.
