Thanks for your test and beautifull image in the snow ! Really great. I have the Neo and HoverAir Pro Max, and both are great and the images of the Neo is verry good for the price ! I am looking your video on a 55’ TV (4K QLED) and your images are verry great !
Glad to hear it! Yeah both it and the HoverAir Pro Max are great (I have both as well). They have slightly different use cases so it's nice to have both.
Little bit of snow puts it lightly, good video! Was curious of how it might handle Calgary weather and hopefully it might be more than a 4-5 months of the year gadget.
The NEO is probably your best bet for a drone in the $hitty. So many regulations, and then you get hit with bylaws. Pointless to jump through the hoops of getting a basic or advanced drone permit for a drone over 250G when the regulations and bylaws prevent you from using it anyways. I have a bigger drone and went out to get this little guy specifically for this reason.
Heya- Just found your channel - subbed. After seeing the wagging doge I knew the video was LAB tested. Got a tip that might help out a bit. Aside from keeping the batteries warm until you plug them into the drone, you want to do the OPPOSITE with the drone itself. Let it climatize to the environmental temperature before you fly it. Idea is that any difference in flight characteristics as it cools from a warm temp in flight will affect how it performs in turn use up more battery. It also avoids some ice formation on the props when they aren't warm enough to form a buildup on launch. One of the gems of this little guy is that with the pre programmed onboard control you don't have to operate a controller for it to complete a shot circuit and return to you - this means your hands aren't out to freeze, which is possibly more of a limitation than the freezing temp of the drone. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for watching and subbing! Yeah, good idea on the cold drone, warm battery thing. That makes a lot of sense. And yeah getting a quick shot while keeping my hands warm in that temperature is a real bonus! As for the dog, from the comments I get I think I have more subscribers watching to see him than me!! Which, actually, makes a lot of sense, heheh
glad i found your video.. from central alberta and was curious about how it would work in my area. Maybe will buy one now instead of waiting till Spring.
I haven’t flown mine that cold yet, but I have flown mine at 2600 m. For the cold I procured a cheap insulated shipping bag to keep the battery pack in when not using it.
Keep the batteries warm when youre not using it, i went to fly the other day after my drone was in my car for a few hours and it told me to either warm the battery up or charge it. This was my mini but id assume the neo is the same, the neo worked but i had it in my pocket staying warm.
Yay Alberta! I flew my Neo in manual mode while fat snowflakes were falling last week and the gimbal froze up from the snow hitting it, melting, and freezing with the wind. Just an anecdote to share. It was fine after I brought it inside.
I work in a warehouse that is -3 F/-20 C, I am looking for a drone to take basic pictures of pallets that are high up on the racks. Anyone flown a Neo in those temps? Doesn't seem that far off from this test but would have to kill the thing.
Nice… But the Image Quality of the Neo is horrible. I have one, but I can also compare it to the footage out of my HoverAir X1 Pro Max, that is so much better! Neo is better in manual flying, as the controls of the Hover are still VERY Beta unfortunately… but in all other ways it is worth the extra buck! I would like to have seen a walk over untouched snow…
Yup, the 8K Hoverair X1 Pro Max is indeed a better image, and I really enjoy mine. They both have some features and advantages the other doesn't have, so I'm glad I have both, LMAO!
True enough but get out the in -20 and see if your hands last flying the Hoverair in with a manual controller longer than the NEO can fly on a preprogrammed path circuit until the batteries run out. A shot that may be lower quality is better than no shot at all in many peoples books.
I love that your dog doesn't care about the drone buzzing around. Good dog.
Yeah, he's pretty much used to it now, and generally ignores it except for the odd curious look!
You may have the new record cold flying temperature but I have -32C in the forecast and I am knitting a sweater for my Neo lol

Yup, so far so good! It handled the weather better than my hands did when I had to take off the gloves to get it going!

You'll be fine. I took the Neo to the trail the other day (-23°C) and it handle it pretty well. No issues with light flurries as well.

Thanks! Yeah, Alberta winters make it tough for drone enthusiasts, that's for sure.

I'm glad to hear it was just a temporary issue!
