Holy cow. I was living there as a kid 1987-1992. There was not all this technology that we see in this video of the 60s. There was no more tram, it was all broken from a long time. Never saw a single working tram in 5 years. I remember people saying there was more tech/structure in colonial times than in 1980s, now I can really picture it. This video from the 60s looks better than what there was in the late 80s. And yea electricity was way too rare to have a tram. We had to turn on the generator when we needed some electricity, at night most of the time the city was totally dark. sometimes you could see some spots that got electricity for a little bit, and the rest of the city pitch dark.
Someone else very famous lived in Freetown at one point. Tony Blair's father was a lecturer of Law at Freetown Uni in the 60s and his wife, Cherie Blair, her granddad (paternal) was a chief steward on the MV Aureol at the same time. Aureol used to ply the coastal passenger route from the UK to Lagos, stopping at Las Palmas, Banjul, Freetown.
@@nikrose5229 I live in a residential group, a girl told me about the Story in Sierra leone back then, the British came and murdered and abducted people and stole a ton of gold and diamonds, Even decades after, theres no compensation, not even a hint of guilt. There's still a burnt slaughterhouse on the beachside, It's a tragedy, but no one cares since it happened in Africa. Only a horrible person could do such a thing.
