I am currently living on a historical wooden boat and I thought the creeking sounds would be pleasant to sleep to but lemme tell ya, the medieval cart is much better lol

It took 2 seconds for my childhood to add in a screeching cat in the background & calls of "Bring out your dead,".

With the heatwave in England and the kids in my street screaming all the time, this is an absolute godsend and perfect timing to finally be able sit and relax without all that noise! Thank you!
Why would they be screaming? Don't you have central air conditioning? I am 72 years old and grew up in central California which has temperatures over 100 frequently all the time actually during the summer. We had swamp coolers which are marginal at best. I don't remember anybody screaming we just harvested dealt our Gardens and did what we had to do because we were in farmland
Unless of course they are screaming with joy because somebody set up a bunch of sprinklers or set off a fire hose. That I can understand
@@miriambertram2448 Not sure if it's the case for this person, but a few of my English friends have told me before they live in regions where heat which make AC make sense was rare until about 15 years ago, and many of the buildings/homes haven't implemented AC yet. Same problem is present in the Northwestern US atm.

No, central air conditioning is not typical in the UK, where most houses are over 50 years old, and houses from before 1900 are still common.

Such a comforting sound, although I have no idea why. Perhaps it’s the sound of a wooden vehicle as opposed to a metal vehicle.
It is like rain on the roof... although it sounds like I need to get up and latch down that shutter
It has rhythm and regularity, but it's not perfect. I think that has something to do with it. I find it very soothing too.
Yes, in the same way bamboo windchimes are soothing and metal ones are irritating.

My 2 year old nephew said he wants to say hi. We were scrolling through youtube and he wanted to watch the whole video. He sat still through the whole thing and just watched you push the cart. I think you're on to something. Now just put it on loop for 10 hours to help people sleep and you'll be the next asmr star
This is lovely, thank you. I get overwhelmed with how loud the world is sometimes and this is so peaceful. A sound many of our ancestors would have been familiar with, I'm sure.

It's so weird how these sounds are calming. If you think about it, all you here are sounds of wood scraping and creaking. Usually, those sounds would be quite annoying, because they're usually coming from an old door horribly creaking or something. However here it is so soothing, as if it wasn't so much the sound that mattered, but the context in which you here it
Personally I thought it would be annoying. It's quite relaxing actually.
I find it similar to the sounds of an old windmill. All the mechanisms are just wood and ropes with the odd metal strip to protect a part from wear. Very calming.
I'm half convinced it's a race memory thing. I've read that city folks have a very similar reaction to their first campfire at night....the sensation of peace and well being comes as a surprise. It probably did this to our savanna dwelling ancestors after taming fire.
I think its because its all wood most doors have metal hinges
This makes me want to build one, then sit and listen as I get my grandkids push it around the yard 😂

Thank you. For ten minutes, I could easily imagine that I was a citizen of the local fiefdom, traveling from one village to the next, maybe trading for the meager things that sustained life at that time. I could imagine yoked oxen passing, with fires burning along the path, as travelers cooked meals for their families. The mind craves these "pauses" to our unsettled times.

Funny you say unsettled. I would imagine people in this time period experienced a feeling of being "settled" far more often then we do today in our busy, ultra connected lives.

I was referring to OUR unsettled times. :) I know for sure the people of the medieval period had much less on their social plates than we do today.. that is why I feel videos like this is a temporary "pause" in our troubled time. I am 73 years old and I can remember much less social agitation through most of my life. These are hard times indeed!
@@RonRay Every time is troubled. It's just today we're being bombarded with it more than ever for the clicks. I mean shoot. Being 73 you would've witnessed the creation and domination of the internet that puts all this information at our fingertips. Statistically speaking, this is the most peaceful era humanity has ever had even with all the insanity we can now drown ourselves in. Even someone making a meager living today has access to goods that a king would see as impressive (like candles).
While it's good to pause and take a breathe; just remember that humanity has always been its own worst enemy. Yet we always manage to progress somehow. Even if it's two steps forward 1 step back a lot of the time.

He actually did it, this is just lovely. Something so simple, yet thoroughly ingrained in the minds of millions of men and women from the period. Thank you very much for this glimpses into the past you give us Jason. Now we just need the 10 hour version.
Way to emotionally invested. 8:40 when your cart stopped, possibly stuck in the forest alone. My mind was racing with concern, but shortly after you stopped. You were able to get your wheel over the log/stump/rock and you were free to continue on your epic journey.
I used to be one of those people that mocked ASMR type content, as at best a pointless meme. However to be very honest it has grown on me. I think so many of us today are hyper sensitized and overstimulated by a constant feed of social media, sound, clickbait, instant gratification through media. We never take the time to just stop and listen, to have a moment of simple contemplation. This type of content is almost meditative in its simplicity. Thank you.
It's also very useful as a sound effect reel if you are making a game or tabletop RPG campaign!

I wish my meditation app would add this sound so I could create my own sound mix. They've already got medieval music that can be added with other sounds to suit your needs. This sound would be a plus to the lot. Thank you for this content. Now I will go to my app's developers and recommend it.

I love stuff like this, for me it's that grounding feeling you get from hearing natural materials in contact with each other. Creates connection with the actual world rather than the one we've made to live in. Good work old bean 👍

I can imagine the story of a wealthy peasant (you are too smartly dressed for a poor man) whose horses are working in the field, so he loaded his things on a cart and went to a neighboring village or town - I don't know yet why, maybe to buy or sell something... And so you can make up the whole story.

I always wondered what that calm and floaty feeling was when I listened to certain things. I never knew it had an actual name or everyone got it lol. So ASMR is what it's called .. I've opened up a whole world here!

I closed my eyes here imagined sitting on a fence and hearing this noise coming towards me without seeing the cart yet. Was like being in the 13th century.
ASMR can be a wonderful thing. But since you've just discovered it, i have to warn you. There are a lot of people trying to profit from the genre's popularity by making stupid stuff and calling it ASMR. Just keep looking, try to search with different keywords added and you will find some gold content.
I didn't think I'd be listening to a medieval cart for my ASMR today, but I surprisingly enjoyed it.
Many cultures had some version of a handcart for thousands of years, so here's a sound that would have been a daily familiarity for quite a few of our ancestors. Thank you for sharing this!

This brings back lovely memories. My Dad and Grand Dad made a wooden wagon for me as a child in Texas. My bff would bring her horse and we took rides. It sounded just like this. A much gentler time.

For someone who feels really quite 'born in the wrong age', this is really relaxing and good for escape.
I'm now imagining other ones; listening to the crackling embers of a fire in one's small home, while in the distance, one's peasant neighbours are arguing into the evening -the wind just about carrying the now all-too-familiar sound of it.
Imagine the sound of 50-100 of those crossing a drawbridge in front of your cottage before dawn every morning with the driver shouting his wares as he passed. This is the sound of history, thank you Jason for making it real for us.

nothing special, just our wireless microphone resting on the cart bed. Not very scientific I'm afraid, and a bit of an experiment for us.
