  • We all know that breast cancer screening allows us to find cancers earlier when it's most treatable.... but what is best? When should you start getting mammograms? When should you stop? How frequent should this be? What about for dense breast tissue? When should you get an ultrasound or an MRI? What is tomosynthesis or 3D mammography? What do all of the professional societies say about screening, and why do recommendations vary? We cover all of this in this video!

Thank you for this video, Dr. Helpful even 3 years later. It has led me to ask whether I need supplemental MRIs. Am facing follow-up tests as we speak and it is stressful.

    Excellent Video Mam
I am great fan of you
    My two observations :
    1) I came to know that Thermal Mammogram is also one of the Screening Tools. Probably it might be missed .
    2) Kindly cover PET - CT Scan as a dedicated video in both i ) diagnosis
and ii ) during follow up after completing treatment.
Sincerely trusting that you will oblige me
    Humble Regards
    Vara Prasad

Thank you. Thermal mammograms have not been shown to have a benefit, and are not a good screening tool. PET-CT is often not used for diagnosis nor follow up after curative therapy in asymptomatic individuals, but we can certainly make a video on staging, where we can talk about this!

If ultrasounds give better results for dense breast tissue then why isn't it used as the standard breast imaging. Ultra sounds are radiation free & a lot less painful than those awful mammograms.

Can pressing breast tissue with tumor cause cancer to spread and is mamo radiation dangerous to breast tissue?

Yes absolutely and please do your own research and always ask for a ultrasound because there is no radiation.
