Spent way to many years in bad to zero visibility with GREEN or color radars. Really should be an option for red if the Captain chooses, Very dim helps. Another great video Rick.
Drive a nut up the bolt threads first Rick before cutting the bolt threads, then the nut can be backed off clearing the threads. Before mounting/fastening the bolts for whatever, I use anti-seize for future removal and I think you do too. We love this Channel and after 7 notifications today, we go to your channel first. Thumbs up!
humor me, Rick. Do you happen to have a tap and die set for common thread sizes? I wouldn't be without one with my projects. That and run a nut on the bolt before you cut it off (as was mentioned).
dunno if you guys gives a shit but if you're stoned like me during the covid times then you can watch pretty much all of the new series on InstaFlixxer. Been watching with my brother for the last months =)
What a super job your radar system is going to do when you are at sea. You will be 100% safe sailing at night with the information it gives you. It’s a must have for all yacht’s on the oceans. Most of your followers end their comments “stay safe”, this is system is your “third eye”
Hi Rick, just a tip. When you are going to cut a bolt, thread a nut on it before you cut it. Then just remove the nut after cutting it to chase the threads. Thanks for the Great videos. 👍
I never thought this would interest me! You explain things so well! You should teach fellow boaters. Amazing all you have installed! Would love to see more! Thank you!
OKAY. CAPTAIN, THANK YOU VERY MUCH. ALWAYS CONTINUE, WITH THAT CHARISMA, EMPOWERMENT AND TEACHING. ENJOY THOSE VERY BEAUTIFUL PLACES IN THE WORLD. FROM ARGENTINA, HUG, .----------
I could never get rid of a SSB Radio Captain. I entered the world of electronics and communication BECAUSE of the SSB radio :) I love the radio. It may be out of fashion, but it is still independent from any service provider and you can talk a lot around the world for free. When all the communication system cease to work in the middle of the ocean.. the radio is king.
Yes I agree to a point... but if all your other systems are down, it's typically due to a major electrical issue like a lightning strike.. which means the SSB would most likely be gone too.. having said that, I will likely keep it in storage somewhere, but antennas and grounding planes are always a big issue on a boat.
In Australia Marine SSB is still available, satellite services can be problematic due mainly to the requirement for the receiving station to be manned when in use.
Rick, love to see the overlay features with radar, ais, and chart plotter. A special episode on the use use of the Raymarine suite please. Love these install videos. Changing my mind on what I want to buy.
Love the outtakes. I used to say the same thing to my International 14 when I would find it half full of water every time I wanted to sail out of the Barrie City Marina (Centennial Park). Apparently it needed re-caulking. LOL! Hey, I was 16!
@@SailingSophisticatedLady Bet you didn’t find it half full of water, even once. I would show up and you could hear a wave of snickers as I walked to my slip. Ahoy Captain Rick. Greetings from Cartagena De Indias, I have been following your videos for a long time but it is the first time that I write to you; I just wanted to tell you that you are living what for me is just a dream. Thanks for taking the time to make these videos.
Wow, for myself not being a sailor, you explained the equipment so well that I could understand and maybe install it too,, I do have a good working knowledge of computers.. Raymarine was wise to have you as an ambassador,,, B&G watch out Captain Rick is on the job,, educator, installation and working knowledge of the systems..... Bravo Captain well done...............
There's one more reason it's called "Sophisticated" Lady. When I communicate with the Space Station & other satellites, I use computer controlled Doppler correction as the frequency continually shifts up or down depending upon if it's coming towards you or away from you. They use the same principle in the radar. You are prepping well for the long crossings where all this will provide a much more accurate, safer, & mentally comfortable crossings. Nice work!
. . . and here I am thinking owning such a beautiful boat was all feet up, drinks in hand, sun overhead - YOU'RE WORKING HARD - but doing a great job. Thanks for sharing - now GET THE RUM OUT - you deserve it.
It is amazing how far radar has developed since those HUGE towers in England during WWII to that 24” plastic dome on top of SL! All in the space of about 80 years. Simply amazing!😊 You the man Captain!
Rick, a littleeasy top when your gutting bolts regardless of size, thread a correct sise nut above your cut. then unthread the nut. It acts a pretty good thread chase
You did an excellent job with the radio panel. Obviously one who appreciates the detailed finish. And on top (literally) of your game by mopping down the solar panels while you’re up there. I’d be curious if a bearing in the radar swing-arm would be more reliable radar imagery. You, my sir, blow my mind every time. I’m not just joining you on your adventure, you break everything down to it’s simplest terms, showing “how the sausage is made” along with the joys of the benefits of your fine work. 👍🤙😎
Good job planning and executing this. I have installed many systems at sea. Most temporary some permanent. Either way without a plan it just becomes unorganized chaos. Most people lose track of the objective long before the project is finished.
Tip when cutting bolts shorter - spin a nut onto the threads past the point where you will cut. Then cut, once you have cut it and filed any sharp bits off spin the bolt back off and it will fix the threads for you on its way off the shank.
Hey Rick, on your radar on the overhead you might want to put a line if you will to that pendulum and make it won't swing too far port or starboard or in a high wind it could go 360 and tear everything up, don't let it go a full 90 degrees or It will be at its furthest point ...good luck on your Pacific journey.
even in high winds and extreme heeling conditions, it wouldn't go past 80-90 degrees max unless the boat capsized.. in which case we have other problems on our mind.. plus it has a friction bearing in it that doesn't let it pendulum when we are sailing, it will just slide over from one side to the other when we tack and then sit there :)
Captain, I think the Radar cables are going to chaffe on the pipe clamps (Jubilee clips) that they are tied to. Some cable management conduit may help. Just an observation. Great video, kids in a candy store with all the new toys.
Just connected my new RM Quantum radar with Axiom and a SeaTalk converter with all the old stuff connected this week too! Super cool when I turned it on for the first time and saw the harbor layout. Now, next challenge we will see if its possible to chart a course on the axiom and get my ST4000+ to follow it.
Good job, I was wondering if it came with Hdwr with the required depth to Install it on a 1/4 thick Alum. plate. I like the way the Radar works in detail, real nice. I wonder if it has different color coding separating Boats not just Boats moving and Land. Will watch for next EP when you go the Tech. settings.
Rick, doppler effect is outstanding. FYI. last August I had a carotid doppler - an imaging test that uses ultrasound to examine the carotid arteries located in the neck to see if there are narrowing or blockages of the arteries. I also remember watching a TV program that demonstrated the Doppler effect by listening to the changes of the sound as a train locomotive passed by. The sound of the locomotive coming was high-pitched that changed to low pitched after it passed. Similar to the red and green images shown on your screen. Way cool, Rick. Have fun playing...er...testing the new toy...er...tool! :¬) Webhead USA

Captain Rick, hey just wanted to follow up with the machinist and bolts conversation on your previous video. I was suggesting having a machinist come onto your boat to remove those stubborn bolts. He doesn't have to bring any machining machines. Any good machinist worth his weight will just bring a few "hands tools" with him and remove those bolts easily. I know this from years of experience. Love that beautiful radar. But, gotta tel you, from what I've seen, the worst most deadly cruiser accidents are happening in the dinghy's. One lady didn't have a single light available on her dinghy, and, also couldn't hear a boat coming because of her outboard motor at night. Was hit by a speedboat going 40 to 60 knots ! Nearly killed her and the lady in the boat with her ! Not only that, wasn't wearing flotation, very common. Lucky to be alive.
