      An animated Cultosaurus would be something to behold. We are too used to see the creature confined to the album cover that any exploration of such beast would be quite interesting.

    After seeing this mentioned at the end of your other BÖC video, I'm very happy this didn't turn in to a 10+ year lost media search! Shoutout to Scott for keeping his CDs safe after all these years, and to Pseudiom for being my favourite channel on UA-cam! Let's get this video the recognition it deserves!

      I guess it was never technically "lost" because someone did have it on CD, but I'm glad more people can play it now. It is an interesting facet of 1990s Internet culture.

    That’s pretty awesome. BOC was a little before my time, but I’m just about old enough to remember peak old school doom. My parent’s computer wouldn’t run it and I doubt they would have let me play it anyways, so I always had to play at a friend’s house where we could have all the sugar and caffeine we wanted while playing with the volume set at an ear bleeding level. I still have a ringing in my ears when it’s completely quiet and I’m pretty sure it started from playing this game

    From a preservation standpoint it's really cool to see something like this. It is a pretty awful level but obviously crafted with love. Mapping something like this in 1996 was not easy. I confirmed it working with Chocolate Doom to get a more accurate old school experience.

    Hey, Hyocn here, long time no talk. I have been subscribed to you since you replied to my comment on EP 10 of SAAOH like a year ago. Only now have I had the chance to really watch some of your stuff. Really loved your video on SAAOH by the way, just commented something there in fact, that may give you some more insight into the development of the show.
    This video was really nostalgic. DoomWADs were a great comfort when my PC was behind spec-wise of my peers. Even when I did get a fairly better computer not too long after my early internet days, I found myself playing DoomWADs consistently.
    To think that so many things have been lost by time. I am glad that even one WAD has made it out of the abyss.
    The secrets of this WAD kind of impresses me. So many WADs lack the 'secret touch' that was in the original game. It was wild to find Total Conversions that were completely new games but had underwhelming secrets and little to find outside of aesthetic.

    I'm pretty sure you sequence-broke the map. The original Doom engine does not allow for jumping: that's a feature added by GZDoom. Any time you use the jump key to get over a wall, you are doing something that would have been impossible without a cheat code in the original engine.

  • @gamesthatiplay9083
    @gamesthatiplay9083 9 місяців тому +3

    There was no jump in this era of Doom. You're playing it incorrectly.

  • @ThrowAway9001
    @ThrowAway9001 9 місяців тому +2

    I don't mean to DOOM-splain you, but this map (and nearly all custom DOOM maps) do not support jumping. Jumping was not a feature in the original DOOM 1 and 2. This is probably why you had some difficulty getting the map to work, or why some events weren't triggering.

    "Too much effort," uh-huh. One should not underestimate the amount of effort that could go into a hoax or a joke. For the time being, let's treat this one, however, as a real McCoy. I'll go off what I see in the video, as the link doesn't work for me.
    The layout seems to be more or less authentic - even though I've seen this way of using textures more often in DN3D usermaps. I'd raise concern with the seeming lack of map 07 unique triggers - an oblivious draw for any beginner mapper, but the deathmatch being the goal might explain that away. The jumping wasn't a feature in the original Doom, so in the authentic map it can't be a valid way to progress - then again, many a map is blatantly unfinished or not intended to have a valid ending, so having to, effectively, sequence-break an non-existant sequence could be valid.
    All in all, until I've had an opportunity to examine the map personally, there's a chance for this find to be rather exciting - even if in a niche within a niche kind of way.
    P.S. There's a noticeable and somewhat annoying popping in the last stretch of the video. Not sure if a stylistic choice to simulate poor audio equipment reminiscent of a time, but it's there.

    • @Pseudiom
      @Pseudiom  9 місяців тому +3

      Thanks for the analysis! Very interesting. As I admit, I'm not familiar with DOOM mapmaking. Can you let me know the issue you're having with the link? I put the zip file up on mediafire. I says "24 downloads" so far so I assume others have been able to access it. I'd like to get the map/files into as many hands as possible.

    • @nikital.6523
      @nikital.6523 9 місяців тому +1

      @@Pseudiom The connection times out. If I had to guess, it's an IP black list sort of deal. Doesn't matter, asked a guy to try out the link and shoot the WAD to me.
      The map does appear to be within technical restraints of the time - at least I haven't seen any noticeable limit breaking. And it's 100% completable without jumping (well, I got 95% on items, but let's say that that was close enough).
      It does look like a fan map, if nothing else. Plastered paraphernalia and really abstract landscape without any pretense to looking like an actual place, absolute cacaphony of sounds sampled from songs and somewhat random assignment of custom assets. If you believe that a level is a glimpse into a level designers mind wrought in geometry, then this is that little shrine dedicated to a favorite band somewhere in some person's braincage.
      There are, however, some things that did strike me as particularly "BOC-ish". For example, both of the teleports in open areas will hurl you towards different destinations depending on wherefrom you enter them. I won't mention the Symbol since it's both obvious and a really common thing in the early FPSes (incorporation of iconography into the level architecture, not the Symbol in particular, that is). Overall, it's a nice map of a band's fan, and whether it is *that* map or not, it's good and authentic to the time.
      TIP: if anyone wants to have a somewhat interesting scuffle, don't go for the invuln at the beginning. Open lanes of fire and lack of easy cover complete with diverse range of trickling in demons make for a nice opening.
