@@nathanw9770 Was in Tampa a few years ago on a family trip - on my way home, I got to watch a FedEx MD-11 taxi by the terminal. Felt a sense of nostalgia for the tri-jets (despite there being one right in front of me, haha) - and got some pics too. :D
AMAZING!!! Look at all those wide bodies!!! Aviation in the U.S. is so boring today! Nothing but narrow bodies 737s and A320s! Notice how little presence Southwest had back then!
I worked as an Air Traffic Controller at MCO from 1988-2002, then at TPA 2002-07 when I retired…Even as busy as it was, we had a lot of fun Pushin Tin!!…
Not only the nose: the muzzle is the same for the three airplanes, and the fuselage itself is common too, in different lengths naturally: after the success of the 707, Boeing decided to produce jets for medium and short range, and to save time, it decided to use the same fuselage of the 707. Douglas made the same, it built the Dc9 starting from the muzzle and fuselage of the Dc8.
This is great. I was born in 93 but remember this like it was yesterday the Tampa part at least. I miss the NWA 727s so much. Even up until 99 a lot of these aircraft were still flying.
I'll never forget how my love for aviation started, when I was young and got on an L-1011 flying to MCO... Wanna say it was northwest but can't quite remember.
When I lived in Clearwater, Florida I drive across the causeway to Tampa & watch the planes from the parking garage & take pictures too, I'd sometimes go to the gate area to watch planes & the ramp people work around the planes. This was between 1988 & until I left Florida in 1994. About a third of these airlines didn't fly there at the time I lived in Florida, only American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Continental Airlines, United Airlines, USAir, Piedmont (before merging with USAIR), former Eastern Airlines & United Airlines. I even walked through the empty Eastern Airlines gate area since trams were still going back & fourth between the ticketing/main terminal to the gate area. I wish I had my camera at the time to take pictures. Anyhow great memories.
I miss when half of all the engines at a given airport were JT8Ds. True story, when I was a tiny kid, I used to watch 727s, thinking the center engine was actually on top of the fuselage, IN the "S" duct, and it was somehow like magic, or mysterious added thrust with no outlet. Same with the L-1011. As an aviation lover since old enough to walk, it really was akin to an amazing riddle to solve. Haha!
i remember flying out of tampa when i was younger and looking back and seeing all the airlines and variety of aircraft that used to fly into and out of tampa it makes me wonder what happend to some of them. airline travel will never be what it was
"memories" that is the right word , all the Boeing 737-200 , 727-200 , Tristars, DC-10 all are disapeared, the same for some airline companies Laker, Sobelair , TWA, ...
SO many trijets. America has always been behind the curve. By the 1990s the only commercial trijet in active service in Australia was the 727. We'd already transitioned to 737s predominately with a mix of 767s and 747s flying long haul domestic between Sydney and Perth. Then the 717 found favor with some regional airlines and Qantas.
Were there any 747s or other jumbo jets at TPA in the late 90s? I'm curious because there have been some there in the past and there are 747 diversions from time to time.
Orlando Airport TSA is the worst airport I’ve been to out of 50 airports. Every time I go through them, the TSA spends more time flirting and touching each other than doing their job!
Air travel was different before September 11 2001, more people were willing to fly. A lot of those airlines went bankrupt because of September 11. The rest that didn't either turned into codeshare airlines or if they didn't they went bankrupt, or merged with other airlines due to the rising cost of fuel.

Where are the 737 Classics (-300/-400/-500)? Surely they were around in 1997. I don't know, now don't call me Shirley. XD No, seriously. Where are the 737 Classics?

This kinda video is a reminder of just how many airlines came and went.
John Iii indeed

Ahh Tampa in 1997. Such a great memory to watch!
My dad worked in the ground support industry for close to 50years! It brings back a lot of memories to see these older videos!

those 737-200 used to dominate
they have been replaced by newer 737s and planes made by embraer and bombardier
I just realized that the 707, 727, and 737 have the same nose design.
Lol. How did you not notice that before?
@@CPS747-8 I don't know

This was so much fun to watch and reminisce -- the good ol' days.
This was the golden age of jet airliners when diversity of aircraft designs was at its greatest...
Oh how I wish we could turn back the clock to those glorious days.

Transbrasil and VARIG! Nice!
I live in Orlando, this was very cool to see. It feels like yesterday when I rode on a 727... haha
I bet the spotters there miss the UK charters and others
Oh poor AirTran 💚
I live in Clearwater wich is aprox. 30. Min away from TPA I visit there often. :)
Itd be nice if you had footage in Orlando back when Florida Express was flying their BAC One Elevens.
Love the trijets and the primitive 737s!
Trans Brasil...
Most of those airlines don't live anymore.
Airlines are like our lives, they never last forever, there is a beginning and end to everything, sad to say.
3:53 🥝
None of those planes are flying today! Except for maybe the 757. Sad! Planes are so generic today!
oh, air tran, the memories....
I have a air tran 737 model that has battery still after like 8 years
Were there any 747s or other jumbo jets at TPA in the late 90s? I'm curious because there have been some there in the past and there are 747 diversions from time to time.
why did ATC stop using position and hold?
To match the rest of the world which already used the term "Line up and wait".
Sure miss the 727's and 737-200, does anyone know when the 757's are going to be phased out of service in the U.S.?
Oh wow I miss KIWI what an a awesome airline flew on them with family on the EWR to MCO route and back that's one airline I miss and the 727s
Orlando Airport TSA is the worst airport I’ve been to out of 50 airports. Every time I go through them, the TSA spends more time flirting and touching each other than doing their job!
I can tell which clips are at TPA, but where does it change to MCO? Is it around the middle of the video?
First flight I’ve ever been on was Air Tran.. 2-4 years before there shutdown
Nice video!!!
Delta had the oldest fleet.....
Omg I didn’t know that was 20 years ago on my city and Orlando

Damn those 727s and md 11s are so ugly
Obviously you have no taste in beauty !!
ZOMb2010 just because you think those planes look good doesn't mean the whole world thinks the same
jayz4evr actually the whole world thinks the same, you're just the odd man out.
so you must think falcon 50s and 900s are ugly too?
