I took my ranger to get the oil changed and they told me they wouldn't do it because they had to remove the tire and panels. Thanks for sharing this so I know that they're full of it and now I can do it myself!
You dont have to prefill the filter. Ford has a primer feature. Hold the brake a gas all the way down and hit the ignition and it will crank for like 10 seconds wothout starting. This primes the filter. Then you can start with oil pressure
Just finished changing my oil. I laid under the truck for 15 minutes looking for the damn oil filter. At one point I thought maybe they didn't use one. Got the manual out and it said it had one so I came to UA-cam to find it. Crazy to have to go through the wheel well but it was actually really easy.
That is typical of Ford. They attempt to make the car serviceable. How many car companies would think of that drain channel too? Not many if any. I remember a high school buddy in the early 80's had a Chevy Monza. He had to PULL THE ENGINE, to change spark plugs.
I once asked a classroom of students in their early 20's if they had ever changed their own engine oil. Two people raised their hands. Both were young women. Both raised on ranches/farms.

17k miles on my 2021 ranger, already got a rebuilt trans, and the trans STILL kicks, and refuses to shift properly sometimes. 5 recalls and unevenly wearing tires. still love the truck!
Buy an FUMOTO valve and you won’t have to worry about a wrench for the drain plug or skid plat removal. You will need the small adapter which they sell. Then add 6” of tubing and done. No more skid plate removal or drain plug removal. Just flip a switch.

Do the 1st break- in change by 1500mis! Allow 1000mis easy driving. No revving / LONG IDLING . Enjoy ur new Ranger! Best truck in the class.
5,000 miles MAX! Not 1 more. That engine and turbo will be toast after 10,000. 25,000 is insane. I also run Amsoil signature series and a wicks filter. But I change it every 5000 miles. I still enjoyed your video and it does help people maintain their vehicle but 5000 miles is all you should go between oil changes no matter what oil and filter you are using.
Absolutely oil changes are a must. I don’t quite put 5000 miles on this year so, I’m changing my Amsoil signature series this year at about 3800 miles because I have a year on the oil. Oil is cheap versus destroying the engine. I got each qt for about $11.80 from our local Amsoil dealer. The wicks XP filters can be kind of hard to find. I found that O’Reillys has them. That’s great to hear you have gone a 100,000 miles. It should easily go another 100,000 miles if it’s taken care of the same way.
This is the first vehicle I've ever owned that when you look in the owners manual to reference an oil change, and it simply says, "Take it to your authorized Ford service center." What have we become? Thanks for the video!

50k miles 2019 ford ranger xlt. Changed the oil every 3k miles. I drove as this is a mustang and the engine runs like new. I used the blend but now thinking going full synthetic since it is cheaper than the blend 😂
You may need a oil filter wrench to get the filter off. I had all my oil changes done at the dealer till my "Free oil changes" ran out. My first oil change the filter would not move till I got a wrench.
Have you done an oil analysis yet? I've been looking at rangers as a possible daily instead of a sedan. Any issus/problems about or with your ranger? Have you towed with it or primarily overland?
Not yet. I have a little over 13000 miles. I changed out w/ Amsoil XL around the 2000mile mark. I’ll do a black stone test when I change the oil again. (Or during oil filter change)
Man I too have the same problem. The smell is so bad I could smell it when I am at idol at a light stop sign. The smell is also inside my cab even when I get out of my truck and turn it off and im walking away from like 5' away or more I could still smell it. I have a jlt catch can and I thought maybe that's the reason too but I don't see how or why that would cause it. I guess I have to take mine to the dealership also. This sucks, new truck!
I’m about to use Amsoil for the first time despite having listened it is too expensive. Here’s what I’ve calculated for my 2021 Tacoma Pro. It takes 6.2 quarts. If I use the cheapest synthetic and filter it will cost me 31.41 per change. If I do this every 3k miles it will cost me $1,046 over 100k miles. If I use the Signature Series AND the Amsoil filter it will cost me $77.92 per change. If I do this every 5,000 miles it will cost me $1,558 over 100k miles- ONLY $513 more. If I drive 10k miles a year the Amsoil will cost me $51 more per year. I think I can handle $51 more a year EVEN IF Amsoil isn’t any better. If it is- the $51 extra each year is a bargain because it likely has saved me more than the extra $513 over the 10 year period. Obviously if I changed the interval to 15,000 miles it buys its way in BUT I wanted to show the most conservative approach. I hope this helps put things in to perspective.
It doesnt matter if the dipstick is in or not... You are supposed to add the oil put the cap on, make sure the dipstick is inserted and all the way down, start the truck, check for leaks, shut it off, wait a few minutes, pull the dipstick, wipe it, re-insert it, pull it out, check the level...New, my '22 Lariat came with the oil level just below the top hole on the stick and it is still there with around 1,200 miles...I am going to change it and filter now, because I know that BMW changes their M cars - all their fluids at 1,200 miles for a reason... They used to do it to ALL the Bimmers they sold, but can you imagine how much that cost???? They eventually just reserved that for their "M" performance vehicles...
Your doing all that work for nothing. You don't need to pull the skid plate. You just need a 15mm gear wrench. A funnel like one man said would keep you from spilling the old oil while draining. You don't have to prefill your new oil filter either. That's just done on diesels because the filters are too big.
Would be nice if changing your own oil saved you a few bucks but I literally spend more just on oil and filters than paying the mechanic $50 to do it. I found a sale and getting only 6 quarts I spent $51.72 sometimes I get coupons for $35 change from the mechanic down the street.
You are supposed to remove and replace the oil filter due to the variable oil pump first in order to complete the change fast and not risk the oil pump losing prime. Multiple people and family members learned the hard way with engine replacement. (Doesn’t just affect the Ranger).
I'm trying to change the oil/filter on a 2021 Ford Ranger Lariat for the first time at around 5,000 miles. The oil filter seems immovable given the tightness and awkward angle of my arm/hand over the tire and through the wheel-well. Note that there is not a lift-kit on the truck. The space doesn't seem to be big enough for an oil wrench. Does anyone have suggestions to remove this filter?
Only the lariat models come with it. And it's actually a high density foam. You can order one on eBay for like $100. Reduces engine noise pretty significantly.

Use premium fuel 91-93 octane if you want 300hp & engine to run cleanest. Reg 87 octane is bad for turbocharged DI motors.

I run Amsoil oil & filter as well, for the full 25 000 miles. I change the filter about halfway through the t oil life though.

Amsoil makes a oe oil for that reason.

You could have just used a funnel under the drain plug to save a lot of work taking off the skid plate 😅
