How to Make a Necktie Poncho
Вставка
- Опубліковано 15 вер 2024
- In the previous video, I showed how to sew together neckties into a long piece of patchwork fabric, using a technique called “strip quilting” (watch that process here: • Strip Quilting with Ne... ). In this video, I show how to convert that colorful pieced fabric into an artistic poncho.
This is an in-depth, step-by-step video that details the creative process I use when forming this kind of wearable art. I talk about why and how I make changes and additions to the garment. (Update: the poncho shown in this video has SOLD.)

Thank you so much Nancy, I really really enjoyed watching you create this beautiful and unique project. It’s so inspiring and I love ❤❤❤❤ how it turned out. Please stay safe and well too xxxx Mags ❤❤❤
I thoroughly enjoyed this video. I loved the process and the project.
My inner me desperately wants to press it😂.
hahaha! I totally get that!
Wow, I really like how you explain your creative process, and not just give instructions on how to do something!
It gives a very cool insight on how working with scraps of fabric actually is :)
Oh my goodness, thanks so much for the kind words, Irinea! Hope you have a good time experimenting. :) Nancy
Wow, that turned out terrific!
Oh my gosh, Gina, thank you! I appreciate that. :) hugs, Nancy
It's very creative and inspiring. I think it works. My only suggestion is for the a lining but it's optional because it's not really noticeable.
By the way the singing is very uplifting and original
haha - thanks, Francis!
Hi Francis, Thanks for your message. Although I neglected to show this in the video, as it is, the poncho is reversible. In addition to spinning it around for different looks, it can also be worn inside out for a whole new set of styles.
A lightweight silky lining is an interesting idea. It's possible that the extra layer might change the drape a bit. I have found that to be true when working with fabrics heavier than neckties, or when I've used a French seam construction instead of the lapping. Not necessarily wrong/bad - the different approaches just create different effects.
If you prefer a lining, I'd definitely give it a try and see if the look and feel suit your personal tastes. Thanks for watching!

Absolutely fantastic view 4 was the best
Hey thanks, Ocean Current!
I live here by NYC and have known many fashion designers and this is visionary the balance of your cool colors is exquisite
You made my day!
Hi Nancy
I’m sorry to say I thought it was the wrong way round, it is however very creative, and it’s given me some great ideas, so thank you.
I love your style of presentation.
Best wishes from Scotland.
Haha - well, it is reversible, so that's always an option! I tried making a poncho with finished seams once. It had a cleaner look, but the drape was affected - it was a bit more structured / rigid. (The construction time was also quite a bit longer.) Using lapped seams allows the poncho to hang more softly on the body. Thanks for watching. Have fun experimenting! Nancy

Sorry. I don’t get it. I think this is hideous. But each to their own. Just not for me.
Very creative, fantastic designs and style, wonderful presentation, very poor workmanship.....
Hi Patti, I appreciate the feedback. What would you have done differently? Nancy
